The United Methodist Church (UMC) Masvingo Innercity Vabvuwi last week launched their debut album called ‘Nguvayedu Ipfupi’, setting themselves up as a distinguished musical group with a lot to offer in a church known for immense talent.
The launch of the eight-track album was graced by many dignitaries including City of Masvingo Mayor; Hubert Fidze, UMC Masvingo District Superintendent; Reverend Jairous Mafondokoto and pastors from other denominations of the church.
Response to the album was impressive and several copies were bought, with the first one going for a whopping US$200.
Speaking at the event, Fidze congratulated the musical ensemble for their achievement, and thanked them for bringing out the best that Masvingo has to offer.
“We are a great city known for our wits, our ear for detail and for making the right noises at the right time. This is what our own Vabvuwi have done and we congratulate them for a wonderful job. It would be even more remarkable if they release more albums per year,” said Fidze.
In his remarks, Rev Mafondokoto also thanked the group for proving that talent in the UMC family exists not only in other accomplished UMC areas such as Harare West but in Masvingo district too.
“We want to thank you very much for motivating yourselves to produce this wonderful album which proves that Vabvuwi are there in Masvingo.
“What you have started is not a trivial job because music does preach the word of God to the people so we want this CD to do that work,” said Rev Mafondokoto, challenging the group to do live shows in all areas so that the message can go far and wide.
Father advisor for UMC Masvingo Innercity, Evison Tahongai said he was happy that the long journey that the group had travelled to record and release the album had finally paid off.
“We encountered serious obstacles along the way but we held on to hope with the faith that the Lord does not fail those who toil in his name. We thank our leaders and church members for all the support they gave us,” said Tahongai.
Songs at the album are Nguva Nevatumwa, Nguva Yakanakisa, Ngatiite Zvakanaka, Jerusalem, Pass Me Not, Jesu Mutungamirire, Jehova Anotipa Chisepe and Munyika Munenhamo.entertainment
