GUTU – Joseph Mushayi (64), who was head at Chiguhune Primary School in Mvumvi village in Chief Gutu area last week committed suicide by hanging himself.
Masvingo acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident saying on July 08, Mushayi woke up from where he was sleeping with his girlfriend Sheila Zvarevashe and went out but did not come back.
Ass Insp Dhewa said around 04:30 hrs, Zvarevashe is said to have gone out to look for her husband who had not yet returned to the bedroom.
She then sought the help of Alice Mushayi (sister to the deceased) and they later found him hanging on a piece of wire on a tree about 100 metres from his homestead.
Sources who spoke to TellZim News said the deceased’s first wife had died and he was always in conflict with Zvarevashe; his girlfriend.
“There were some conflicts between Mushayi and his girlfriend and we suspect that it could have been part of the cause,” said a source who decline to be named but said the deceased was once head at Mutero Primary School before moving to Chiguhune.
In a separate incident, a 19-year-old man from Nduna village in Headman Madzivire in Chivi hanged himself after he was accused of rape.
Ass Ins Dhewa also confirmed the incident saying Brian Mudzingwa was heard talking to a neighbour sometime in June saying he was being accused of rape and that was the time he was seen alive.
On July 08, his body was seen hanging on a tree by a boy who was heading goats. The boy reported the matter to one Esther Nduna who later reported it to the police.
Ass Insp Dhewa said people should seek counseling when faced with difficult situations rather than commit suicide.
“People should seek counseling from the family, traditional or religious leaders when faced with difficult situations. We as the police also offer counseling through the Community Relations Liaison Office (CRLO),” said Ass Insp Dhewa.local
