Masvingo’s young model gets Junior Primary Scholarship

By Beverly Bizeki

Her name is Dillish Makatendeka Masango; indeed she is living up to the definition of her name, Dillish which means ‘we are happy’.
She has made both her family and the people around her happy, which has become the talk of the town, conquering world stages at such a tender age.
Masango who is only six years old is defying odds, and proving the point that hard work pays off after she was being awarded a scholarship at one of the most prestigious schools in Masvingo, Junior Primary by the company Junior Private Limited.
Junior Schools Director Noah Marima confirmed the development and said the school had awarded Masango the scholarship that would enable her to learn Cambridge curriculum and lessen the fees burden on her parents.
“She (Dillish) is doing well in modelling and her engagement and peer influence are out of this world. So, giving her a scholarship to learn at a Cambridge centre would further help her grow since the Cambridge curriculum demands diversity in problem solving. It is also a gesture of corporate social responsibility,” said Marima.
Masango’s mother, Rumbidzai Chisangowerotah could not hide her happiness over the recent opportunity that her daughter got and thanked the staff at her former school Victoria Primary for the investment and effort placed on the young model’s journey so far.
“I am happy for the recognition my daughter got from Junior Compan, Mr and Mrs Marima. i want to thank them for the oppotunity and it is my hope that Dillish will make the best out of it. however, she would not have made it this far if had not gotten support from Vic Junior. I consider the institution as the best government school in Zimbabwe as they have helped in molding Dillish into a first-class learner and now here is she. I am also grateful to Dr Mashuro (school head) and the entire staff as well as Mr Chengeta who ran around tirelessly trying to secure Dillish a first position in all her endeavors,” said Chisangowerotah.
Masango made headlines in the modelling world after she was first crowned Miss Victoria Primary School at the age of five in 2022 and later won two more beauty pageants, Queen of Masvingo Primary Schools and Toto Miss Africa Zimbabwe.
She later went on to represent her motherland, Zimbabwe in Nigeria where she bagged three titles, second runner up Little Mr and Miss Toto Africa, Miss Smile and Miss Popularity after which she was supposed to participate in Florida, United States of America at the World Imperial Beauties.
Masango who also recently won First Princess title at the Face of Kids Teen and Hub pageant and is tipped for another pageant, Miss Phenomenal Africa where she will be representing Zimbabwe.

Strikers FC lifted the trophy after winning 1-0 against LOG FC in the finals making them gold winners and champions of the tournament.
The tournament was organized as a way of fighting against drug and substance abuse, child, marriages as well as bringing entertainment for youths in and around Masvingo urban.
Strikers FC coach Doubt Banda said winning the tournament was a big achievement and it’s not the outcome that matters but the journey they traveled.
“Winning is always a great feeling, but for us it’s also just about the journey and the growth we have experienced as a team.
“We were runners-up for the previous tournament which wasn’t our best. So this win is dedicated to our supporters who despite losing the previous tournament came to support us and would like to thank the players and our patron Prophet Charles Makaya for making us reach this far by running the team’ logistics,” said Banda.
Pangolin Giants coach Tafadzwa Maguranye, said he was excited with the opportunity to showcase his team’s talent.
“It felt great for my team to participate at this tournament. It was a great chance for both coaches and players to showcase their abilities though we did not win,” said Maguranye.
SanSiro FC coach Martin Mberikwazvo said he was confident his team would win because they had put a lot of effort, though the tournament proved to be tough for them
“As a coach, I expected my team to win, and I was very confident that we will win the tournament, as we had prepared well for it however we did not win as per our expectation but next time we will win,”
“However, we are happy that the tournament lived up to its expectations of promoting youth development and discouraging drug and substance abuse,” said Mberikwazvo.
One of the tournament sponsors, Masvingo City Women’s Quota Councilor Alaica Time said she sponsored the tournament because the young boys got entertainment and refrain from committing crime.

We are struggling, provincial heroes’ widows tell Min Chadzamira

By Tatiana Mhararira

Thousands of people from Masvingo province gathered at Masvingo Provincial Acre on August 12, 2024 to pay tribute to the heroes who passed away and celebrate the legacy of those who are still alive.
Among them were widows and family members of the heroes who were buried at the provincial shrine who told the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Ezra Chadzamira who was the Guest of honour, that they were struggling to make ends meet.
They raised school fees challenges, employment and some complained over maintenance of graves at the shrine where some of them have no tombstones.
“We have not yet benefitted from the war veteran beneficiary scheme thus we are having a challenge in paying school fees for the orphans left,” said one widow.
Another one complained about the state of graves saying some still had no tombstones despite that they were there for some years now.
“It’s been long since our relative died but there is no a tombstone, how can you treat a hero like this? We are also struggling financially, our children are not employed so the government has to create employment for us and our children,” said another widow.
However, Chadzamira responded saying they were not supposed to wait for events like Heroes day to tell government about their challenges.
“We have noted all your concerns, however, I implore you not to wait for events like this, you can also submit your concerns through the Permanent Secretary Dr Addmore Pazvakavamwa’s office.
However, despite challenges faced by living war veterans and families of the fallen heroes, those who spoke to TellZim News said the day was special to them as it gives them time to reflect on the sacrifices made to liberate the country.
One war veteran, Macken Dhorobheni, whose liberation name was Bayai Zvichatenda said the Heroes Day is important to him as he got to remember the heroes who fought for the independence of Zimbabwe.
“We have the Independence Day the day we got our liberation but the ones who fought for us to have independence are the heroes whom we remember on this special day so we should give value to the day,” said Dhorobheni.
Winnet Chikupe a wife to the late hero Victor Chikupe said the Heroes Day commemorations hold a special significance to her as they get the time to pay tribute to the heroes with the assistance of other Zimbabweans.
“I am here with my family to remember my husband Victor Chikupe and this day gives us an opportunity to remember these heroes and their participation in the liberation struggle, having such a day signifies their importance in our country,” said Chikupe.
One Masvingo resident Sithabile Sibanda said it was a great honour to remember those who sacrificed their lives for Zimbabwe to have freedom.
“On heroes’ day we honour those who sacrificed their lives for Zimbabwe’s freedom from colonial rule. A number of fighters lost their lives and some developed permanent injuries which they are still surviving with. I hold this day so dearly in my heart thanking everyone who gathered here to remember these heroes,” said Sibanda.
The commemorations were packed with entertainment from Masvingo Teachers College dance group, Great Zimbabwe University traditional, dance Zimbabwe National Army band and a heroes day poem by Khloe Katlego Mliswa a daughter to former member of parliament Temba Mliswa who is in Grade 3 at Kyle Preparatory school.
Also present was Masvingo Mayor Councillor Alec Tabe, families of the heroes, members from the Fallen Heroes Trust, war veterans and their leadership, ex- detainees, ex restrictees and war collaborators, chiefs, principals from colleges, vice chancellors from universities, councillors, members of parliament and service chiefs.
The event was curtained by sporting events which saw ZPCS soccer team crushing ZRP with three goals to one, from the netball desk ZRP won 90 goals to 2 against ZPCS and each winning team walked away with the Heroes Day trophy which was presented by Provincial Coordinator Sports and Recreation Commission Mayibongwe Sibanda.

In a disturbing incident that happened at Nyika Growth Point in Bikita, a man died after his house caught fire while he was drunk on the night of August 17.
A charcoal heater found in the house is believed to be the cause of the fire that claimed Edison Maruta (37)’s life.
Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the death of Maruta and said police were investigating the matter to establish cause of fire.
“We confirm the death of Edison Maruta who resided at Gomba Garage Complex, Nyika Growth Point Bikita. Investigations to establish the cause of fire are still ongoing and the police are urging people not to use charcoal heaters in their homesteads,” said Insp Dhewa.
Sources privy to the incident said Maruta parted ways with his friend Chamunorwa Masawo (28) proceeding to their residence on August 17, at around 2035 hours. Maruta is said to have entered his room while he was drunk.
At around 0245 hours on August 18, Masawo was wakened by the noise from outside, after which he went out and saw Maruta’s house engulfed in flames.
Masawo called for help and when people broke into the house they found Maruta’s body lying on the floor, facing upwards, before they discovered a charcoal heater in his room. The body was taken to Silveira Mission Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem.
In a separate incident that happened in Chipinge on August 18, a 70-year-old woman perished an inferno together with her four year old granddaughter after the hut they were in was set on fire. The police are investigating the murder case with one suspect, Trust Sithole Chivhunze, a mental patient already arrested in connection with the case.
Sophia Sithole was burnt beyond recognition while her granddaughter was found with a fractured skull.
Another 19-year-old woman was found dead in Magada, Stopover, Epworth Harare, after the room she was in was set ablaze and her husband Brian Gorosvipa Muzanenhamo is being sought by the police in line with the matter.

Zanu PF members use dead people’s IDs to steal food aid

By Brighton Chiseva

Some Zanu PF supporters in Ward 19 of Zaka Central are up for stealing social welfare food aid by misrepresenting that they have more kids than they actually have, with them even using deceased people’s identity cards to get aid.
Sources within Zaka Police confirmed the incident and said the matter was now being handled by the police law and order department in Masvingo.
Ward 19 Councilor Albert Mazvanya confirmed the incident and said there were plenty of similar incidents in the district and his ward but he could not help the situation as he was being sidelined as an opposition councilor.
“I am aware of the matter and I heard that the people were arrested then released but the matter is still ongoing. I checked with the police and I was told that the matter was now with the CID law and order department.
“The challenge is, I don’t have a say in the distribution of social welfare aid. The programme is being held by ZANU PF which is using a woman’s quota Councillor to run affairs in my ward,” said Mazvanya.
He said the party chairperson Farai Rupondo and another lady identified as Nyaradzo Chimbwari who works at Jerera Satellite Clinic are the ones in charge of compiling lists that they submit to social welfare and they use none existing people to get the food which they share amongst themselves and other like-minded.
“Getrude Chakona used a dead person’s ID to get food aid since old people get first preference. She used her deceased relative Getrude Madekwana who died in the 1990s and would have turned 100 years this year if she was still alive.
“She also registered her husband as a beneficiary with five children meaning the family got two allocations at the expense of others,” said Mazvanya
Another suspect Otilia Chisenga who has one known child is said to have registered five children under her name and another suspect Esther Munyeketi who stays alone and has no known child in the community also registered five children.
Chimbwari is alleged to have registered her domestic worker as a beneficiary despite the fact that they are from the same household.
Other sources said the matter only came to light after some factional fights within Zanu PF in the districts that led to one exposing others.
The matter is not only unique to Zaka as there were other Zanu PF local leaders were arrested together with social welfare staffers for stealing aid in Gutu.

Hands off Nero!

Ladies and gentlemen, now that the SADC craze is gone I hope you are keeping warm because it seems climate change has decided to give us an extension of winter. It seems as if our dear neighbour Zambia is also seeing flames in all colors due to climate change, which they are blaming for their outrageous load shedding, which I hear it’s now in the 17 hours-a-day phase. Hichilema probably could not iron his suit for the circus in Harare due to power cuts, which is probably why he could not attend physically, kkkk. You need to look dapper ka when you are among your peers, building castles in the air for the region you have all collectively robbed of their dignity. Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa have become notorious for being kuCherima, and here we only see Zesa during Christmas and maybe Heroes for us to hear Nzira Dzemasoja, as we watch Mhamha Auxy displaying her humility, bowing to any and everything on national TV as the mother of the nation, amai venyika chaivo. Apart from those two occasions, we were also swimming in 24/7 Zesa supply over the last weekend because of SADC, when Baba Two was ordained group leader of the regional bloc. I remember when I was still in Grade Five kwedu kwaChirimudombo, we sat in groups according to how we fared academically, and there was always that group that was known for clapping so loudly whenever the class will be instructed to do so, apa chaizikanwa dololo. When I saw Cupcake Ramaphosa grinning as ED walked around greeting heads-of-states at the summit, I was reminded of that. It was as if he was saying “wangu wechidhaka” to his buddy, like he had done something extraordinary. I told you guys, it is a complete circus.
Lately I have been seeing Tsvangison’s name being thrown around trying to discredit Chamisa on the Zimbabwean political landscape. You guys are so pathetically predictable, and I now see why sometimes I feel we deserve Zanu. I would like to ask one question in particular before I go any further: who in this country has the monopoly of leading the so-called revolution many are talking about? Ok, maybe that one is difficult to answer, so I will ask another one: who ordained Chamisa to be the sole custodian of rioting against the government? Kwanai kani imi. All those who are saying Chamisa stole Tsvangirai’s legacy, what is stopping you from doing the same if you are so capable? We heard Dhagi saying we shall all drive bango rake rake going to see mabhebhi, while using the same party called MDC-T, yet Chamisa is to blame for stealing Tsvangirai’s clout. The very same people who are on record for betraying Tsvangirai are the ones barking so loudly. It is also the very same people who, a few years ago were endorsing the ruling regime post-coup, threatening people and enjoying their proximity to power, tisataura hedu mazita vamwe ndivanaDaddy vedu. I laughed when I saw our dear elder Mudzuri joining the bandwagon of castigating Chamisa, kkkk, just the irony of that. Mudhara, instead of looking up to these youngsters, how about you also take the mantle of leadership and lead the people of Zimbabwe where you think they deserve to be? You are old enough Mudhara. That also reminded me of that time when he was questioned by Hwende and crew when he went to dine with Zanu at Statehouse. Trust our old man to misfire from time to time, it’s how he operates, but let me just tell all you cowards who still expect a miracle from the same Nero you have agreed is not fit to lead your revolution that you also can do it. If he did it, you can also did it. Evan Mawarire, a man of the cloth started ‘This Flag’ movement, which managed to bring citizens together, and almost led this country into a revolution, but what did you do with that? All we hear about is infiltration by the regime, this that, all the damn time! Promise Mkwananzi should also know better because he was involved in the Tajamuka movement, together with the likes of Zvorwadza, who we hear now owns a house in the UK. That is the biggest blight of Zimbabwean political activism; you people do it for the money, nothing else. Most, if not all of those castigating Chamisa have no moral high ground of doing so, with how dirty your hands are, and you are dining with the very same regime you claim you want to fight. Too many skeletons in your cupboards for you to be saying all this nonsense. Tisiirei zvedu Zanu itonge because you lot are just jealousy and full of malice towards the very same people you think have the spine to lead the opposition. Right now we don’t even have people in parly that we can trust with keeping government in check. Who can we say is actually giving Zanu headaches right now in CCC? Zanu factions are actually doing more when it comes to exposing each other than the dormant opposition, vanaDhagi vaizhinya pano neuko varikuSADC. Kusekwawo naValerio who said she would not stoop that low and sanitize the façade by attending the Summit.
At least Chamisa is known for claiming that ‘God is in it’ and throwing irrelevant bible verses here and there, but we cannot deny that he has a solid followership, even though some of them behave like cultists. Tsvangirai knew better when he brought him closer to the presidency towards his death, because MDC at least got a bit of a lifeline ichizongofawo zvayo nevakauraya vaya. Hate him or like him, Chamisa still has some political capital very few politicians in this country have. Facts are that stubborn. His charisma cannot be disputed, even by those who consider him an enemy, that is why in Zanu slogans they still say ‘pasi naChamisa’ because they know he is still very relevant and a threat to the establishment. They cannot even bat an eyelid over CCC because it is now yesteryear’s news. I doubt Zanu would dare invite Chamisa-led councillors to attend Chitepo School of Ideology sessions—they took their chances with this empty shell called CCC because it will be no surprise if they actually attended. Yes, there are people who support Chamisa, who behave like dunderheads, but that does not take away from the fact that kanorira kamuface kaye, with his zero leadership qualities like that. Leave Chamisa alone please, divide the labour of your revolution amongst yourselves, no one is holding anyone back, no one has the monopoly over inhaling teargas or entitled to police water cannons. Also, I don’t think jails have filled to capacity, ask Jobho who came out thinking he had been ‘Madibarised’, or Mako, even Kurauone, they know better.
Let me go ndinokanga maputi angu zvangu for lunch and drink water, these days the water in Mucheke is too dirty, kuChitima tanzwa nekunhuhwirwa, I don’t know what EMA and council are planning about that. Councillors are obviously blind to that as well, vangatii havo vanaZishiri if they are not selling out purported demonstrators to Zanu machinery? Alaica akazongoti hake she will sort out ‘vhest biolence’ and providing service ‘deliverance’ when she was inaugurated so maybe she is busy with that. I hope Masimba is now used to council feasts and is no longer burping loudly on microphones, kkkk.
If you guys see my friend Mphoko, tell him that SADC is now at home, he can go report about the 2017 coup and get power back by just catching a bus to Harare. Until next week, Mboko Imboko!

By Meditation Mposi

Mandhlenkosi Marusenga, a learner at Mutonhori High School, Zaka is upbeat, expecting victory ahead of the World Boxing Day commemorations to be held at Palace Hotel in Bulawayo on August 24, 2024.
August 24 is World Boxing Day and in Zimbabwe it will be commemorated in Bulawayo where boxers from the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA), Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS), the Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) and other local boxing clubs are expected to participate in the tournament, with former boxing champion Charles Manyuchi expected to be guest of honour.
Speaking to TellZim News, the 23-year-old Marusenga who has a high record of winning with 62 wins out of a total of 68 bouts said he was confident and expecting to bring the medal home.
“I am looking forward to win. Since I started participating in this sport I have had 68 bouts and out of these I have 62 wins and 6 losses.
“I have no doubt in myself, I am very talented and in the future l see myself achieving some of my goals. The last match I had was in Durban, South Africa where I lost in the semifinals and became the bronze medalist,” said Marusenga.
The boxer said his boxing career started in 2014 and he was inspired by his elder brother who is also a boxer.
“I began to have interest in boxing after watching my elder brother taking part in this sport and decided to take this path, that is when I started training. I see myself competing at international arenas and become a household name in the sport,” said Marusenga.
He added that despite being talented he faced challenges in securing funds for some of the tournaments in foreign countries as he has no sponsor, which disadvantaged him.
“Over the years I have had many challenges when it comes to participating in matches outside the country due to lack of funds and sponsorship. I am a very talented boxer but l feel like in Zimbabwe boxing lacks support.
“In 2019 I was supposed to have a match in Mozambique but failed to attend due to lack of funds. This year I was supposed to go to France for the Olympics but again failed due to lack of money. Prior to the Olympics, I was supposed to go to Russia but I failed to go because there was no money,” said Marusenga.
Marusenga who is still a learner further said he had challenges in participating in some tournaments as his academic timetables clashed with the matches with the upcoming tournament clashing with his final Advanced Level exams.
“I was supposed to go to Congo in October with the Zimbabwe Boxing team but I am no longer going because I will be sitting for my Advanced Level exams,” said Marusenga.
Marusenga is also facing challenges in the boxing equipment therefore reducing his training sessions.
Since 2014, Marusenga has had matches in Harare, Victoria Falls, Bulawayo, Hwange, Chivhu, Beitbridge and once in Durban, South Africa.
His coaches are Phobias Mupfuti from Victoria Falls, Mark Sibanda from Bulawayo and Alexander Kwangwara from Harare.

By Rangarirai Shanyurai

A man from Masvingo left the court speechless after he told the Magistrate that he stole a water tank to sell and get money to buy preparation for his heavily pregnant wife when he appeared before magistrate Isaac Chikura on charges of theft.
The accused Ernest Chamisa (24) was convicted of the charge and will do community service on August 15, 2024.
The state led by Nobukhosi Moyo told the court that on June 11, Chamisa went to the complainant’s homestead in Victoria Ranch and took a 1000 litres water tank which is worthy US$80.
He sold the water tank to Inock Mutoperesu who is into brick moulding. On August 12, the complainant Roy Farai Sanzvenga discovered his tank and reported to the police.
However, in his defence Chamisa said he took a water tank on the road side from his way home.
“I took the water tank on the roadside and sold it since my pregnant wife was due, I had to buy preparation,” said Chamisa
