Drug addict axes elderly neighbor

Tinaani Nyabereka

Gweru– A Mkoba man was last weekend arrested after axing his neighbour in an incident that occurred on July 23 at around 0800 hours in the morning in Mkoba suburb.
According to eye witnesses, the suspect was believed to be under the influence of drugs and it is not clear what type of drugs he was taking.
Circumstances given reveal that the now deceased Charity Moyo (59) died on admission at local hospital after she was struck with an axe several times by her neighbour’s nephew.
It is further alleged that the suspect Panashe Jamari (20) who is also believed to be mentally ill and residing with his aunt, became violent while he was inside his aunt’s house.
He then started to break windows using an axe.
The aunt and the now deceased forcibly opened the door to try to refrain him from further damaging property.
It is at that moment when Moyo was struck with an axe and sustained severe injuries.
The now deceased was taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital where she died on admission.
Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko urged members of the public to respect the sanctity of life.
“We once again appeal to the public to always respect sanctity of human life and resolve disputes peacefully.
“We also urge those with mentally challenged relatives to make sure that they are taken to psychiatric hospitals for regular treatment and make sure they are attended to by mental institutions,” he said.

Tinaani Nyabereka

Gweru– Police have confirmed investigating a murder case following the discovery of a dead body of a man in a disused motor vehicle parked in an alley at the Midlands Hotel.
The incident occurred in Gweru Central Business District on July 25, 2022 at about 0730 hours.
Investigations conducted have since linked the body to an assault case of a then unknown man who was reported at Gweru Central by an informant Samuel Jackson Jacha (29) of Mambo suburb in Gweru.
Circumstances given reveal that on (Friday) July 22, 2022 at about 2030 hours the witnesses saw four men assaulting a man (now deceased) who had just came out of Pandas Bar in 3rd street, Gweru Central Business District (CBD).
The men were using a rubber sjambok, empty beer bottles and an okapi knife. The victim had then escaped to an unknown destination but with very serious injuries.
Police attended the scene during the night and arrested four assault suspects namely Nkosi Ncube (26) Terrence Lewis Sibanda (18), Washington Ngwenya (20) and Jealous Matola (21) all of Umsungwe road, Ridgemont in Gweru.
Police looked for the complainant but could not locate him or establish his identity. On Saturday July 23 2022, the four suspects were taken to court where they were remanded in custody to July 26, 2022 while investigations continued.
On Monday July 25, 2022 at 0730 hours an informant Tendai Mafuratidze (34) reported at Gweru Central police that he had discovered a dead body in a motor vehicle in a car park.
Police attended the scene and the four suspects are now being charged with murder.
Injuries reported to have been inflicted on the assault victim on Friday night are tallying with those on the body.
Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko thanked members of the public who helped police with information regarding the incident.
“We thank the public for the part they played in the investigations done so far,” Mahoko said.
Speaking in one of the residents WhatsApp groups yesterday, Midlands Hotel owner Hamutendi Kombayi said it was unfortunate that such young life had been lost under unclear circumstances.
“It is unfortunate that we have learnt of the death of an unknown man and his body has been found in one of the disused vehicles at the hotel’s parking area.
“Indeed the reports came to me but we are glad that police have since started investigations and the issue is still being looked into.
“The hotel was just closed temporarily for investigations. As a company we are also going to look on the matter through our security personnel so that we clearly get the picture of what happened,” he said.
Reports from other close sources around the issue revealed that the uncle of the now deceased was however told by the now deceased’s mother that the four suspects were alleged to be illegal gold panners who had confronted the now deceased over an unknown dispute.
Upon the assault, the deceased went for a hair cut in the CBD upon which his barber also discovered that he (the deceased) had a deep wound on the head. After doing his hair, the barber reportedly failed to locate the now deceased for further questioning regarding the injury.

‘We never lose in Gweru’-Dulibadzimu warns TelOne

Branton Matondo

Gweru-TelOne who are still fancying their chances of clinching the ultimate Central Region Division One league title will be in for yet another daunting task this weekend as they host a definitive Dulibadzimu side.
With only three games left for league conclusion, Sheasham are five points ahead of fellow Gweru nemesis TelOne.
The telecommunications outfit who clinched a win in their last outing courtesy of Blessing Sahondo are gunning for nothing but three points at Ascot stadium this weekend.
Dulibadzimu gaffer Stanley Ncube told this publication that TelOne will have a good run for their money and points come Sunday.
“It’s a tough match. Tough match indeed but as a team we are up to the challenge to put in a shift as always. Like any other fixture, our approach is the same as we fight for three points. We are also unbeaten in Gweru this season and it seems my players enjoy playing in Gweru,” said Ncube.
Dulibadzimu who have a 39 point tally collected three points in their previous fixture on a walkover after young boys Filabusi failed to appear for match day.
“Yes Filabusi did not pitch but as l said we really wanted to use the game as preparation for our next encounter,” he added.
TelOne assistant coach Rutherford “Wasu” Matondo praised efforts by the boys for the derby win and showed the need to work hard in the next encounter.
“The boys showed unity of purpose and character because they fought to the last minute of the game. Next game versus Dulibadzimu at home, it is not an easy encounter, we need to grind results in all remaining games,” said Matondo.
Meanwhile Sheasham collected three points this past weekend after sinking an ailing Kwekwe United, a team that started the season like a house on fire.
The two net bangers came courtesy of regular goal scorer McDonald Mavhuto.
Ascot also prevailed in a derby after Blessing Sahondo scored the only goal of a much stiff and awaited derby against Clemence Zuze coached Chapungu.
In an interview with TellZim News, Sahondo said the goal was a surprise and a last minute winner that presented itself at the most acute moment.
“It was a tricky game and an encounter that could go either ways. The goal was unexpected because everyone could not believe that I would score within the last two minutes. Even the coaches were expecting the referee to blow the final whistle then all of a sudden I scored at the final fold,” said Sahondo.
“Odega” Sahondo is currently the top goal scorer with 14 goals so far followed by young speedster Liberty “Bango” Masveure who has netted 11 goals.
Vumbachikwe who are also piping at a possible top two finish got the better of MSU in a one nil final scoreline win. Experienced striker Vincent Nzombe got the better of MSU defence at Long John stadium.
Elsewhere the beach boys Paramount and Zvishavane based side Loss Control entertained fans at ZRP Gokwe as the former got better of Senior John Phiri and his Loss Control lads in a ten goal thriller.
Man of the moment at Paramount Obert Zinyama, who also carries the armband registered a brace.
Gaffer John Phiri commended his boys for a stellar away performance from home but despaired on the state of ZRP Gokwe Centre stadium.
Kwekwe based outfit Zpc Munyati who have found their winning wheels under the tutelage of former Zpc Kariba gaffer Godfrey Tamirepi also collected maximum points at Bishopstone Stadium.
The goals came courtesy of Anele Mukarati and Malvin Sithole.
ZPC Munyati captain Decent Dube despaired over the harshness of playing away against teams like Bishopstone considering the state of the pitch.
“It’s always tough to play versus a team with nothing to lose and they gave us tough task. The weather contributed a lot as it was too hot and the pitch is not playable. Our aim is to finish on a high in preparation for the coming season when we will be aiming to start on a high,” said the captain.
Tongogara who are seasoned campaigners felt the passing wrath of FC Platinum Under 19 too tough as they lost two nil.

Chadzamira, Mavhenyengwa battle re-ignites

… as factions fight for provincial youth chair post

Brighton Chiseva

MASVINGO – The factional battle which threatened to tear Zanu PF Masvingo province last year has been re-ignited as the two warring camps tussle for the provincial youth chairperson post that was left vacant following the elevation of John Paradza to deputy national secretary for youth affairs.
The factions are allegedly being fronted by former provincial chairperson who is also the Minster of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Ezra Chadzamira who is alleged to belong to President Emerson Mnangagwa’s camp and his successor Robson Mavhenyengwa who is alleged to be a vice president Constantino Chiwenga loyalist.
Mavhenyengwa confirmed the elections and said as the provincial chairperson, he will accept whatever outcome saying the process was going to be done freely and fairly.
“The elections will be done on Saturday and as the chairperson I will accept the results as they are, because the process that will be used there will be very free and fair. The contestants are both Zanu PF so they are just electing the one who will lead them hence there will be no challenge at all cost,” said Mavhenyengwa.
The elections will be held on Saturday July 30 at Masvingo Polytechnic with the electorate being district chairpersons, District Coordinating Committee (DCC) youth affairs secretaries and provincial executive members.
Masvingo Provincial Secretary for commissariat Brian Munyoro who is also alleged to have dumped Mavhenyengwa faction and mended relations with Chadzamira refused to comment on the elections saying the youth wing was responsible for comment.
“It’s a youth thing and they are the ones responsible for everything so I cannot comment. I think you can get in touch with comrade Paradza,” he said.
The camps have already booked their members at local hotels and lodges to avoid those who would flip flop in the last minutes.
Three people have since lined up for the post with Chadzamira faction being represented by Charles Munganasa who is the youth league’s secretary for administration while the Mavhenyengwa faction fielded two candidates namely Israel Lunga who is the current secretary for commissariat from Chiredzi district and Delight Mandebvu from Bikita district who was deputising Paradza as youth chair.
Close sources said Mavhenyengwa camp is trying to buy Mandebvu out of the race to strengthen their position and has been offered US$1000 but he is refusing to step down saying the money is too little.
“They offered Mandebvu US$1000 to step down and pave way for Lunga but he refused saying the money is too little, so it’s mostly likely that he will remain in the race,” said the source
However, sources within the faction dismissed the allegations that they were offering Mandebvu money saying Lunga stands a better chance than both Mandebvu and Munganasa who is being accused of selling out by both factions.
“Munganasa was a Mavhenyengwa loyalist during the provincial elections last year. He however shifted after seeing that the Chadzamira faction had no candidate and wanted to use that ticket to the top post
On the other hand, Mandebvu has no ground so no one can offer him money to step down, he will simply lose,” said the source.
Another source however said Munganasa stood a better chance since Mavhenyengwa camp has two candidates who are fishing from the same pond.
The source said the double candidature was a result of internal factions where some Chiredzi big wigs are against Lunga thereby funding Mandebvu.
“The reason why Mavhenyengwa faction has two candidates is that, initially each district had its own candidate, however, Mwenezi and Chivi chickened out leaving three. Mandebvu was supposed to step down but he was persuaded by some members mostly from Chiredzi who are against Lunga since they have their own battles as a district. So they are the ones who are funding Mandebvu,” said the source.
On the other hand some in Chadzamira camp are against Munganasa whom they accuse of having double standards hence division over Lunga and Mandebvu.
Another source said Munganasa was now threatening the Mavhenyengwa faction saying if they continue fighting him, he will expose how the Mavhenyengwa faction rigged Chadzamira during the provincial chairpersonship contest.
“Munganasa has no ground. He will get few votes from Masvingo district but the general electorate is against him saying he wants to soil Chadzamira’s name and affect his bid to get into the central committee.
“He now wants to be saint and threaten to release information on how Chadzamira was rigged but by the time we wanted that information, he was not forth coming,” said an inside source.
Contacted for comment, Munganasa said there were no factions in the party, saying those who believed in factions were not mentally stable.
“Factions exist in the heads of mad people. Towards elections people support certain individuals then we regroup after elections. I hope Zanu PF bestows the responsibility of this particular leadership on me at this juncture,” Munganasa said.

Is Susan another Baba Jukwa scam?

Mapombi as you all know ladies and gentlemen is not an activist like the likes of ana Itai Dzamara who ended up disappearing and of late ana Makomborero. It’s not that I am afraid of disappearing; it’s just that I majored in telling the truth. Ndinonzi Mafirakureva and ndiri gentleman handivanze. I said this and I will continue saying it until vanosvotwa vasvotwa. The continued detention of Job Sikhala, Sithole and 12 others following the Nyatsime disturbances that ensued after the death of Moreblessing Ali is wrong. That is wrong and I will say it both pasi nekudenga. The issue here ladies and gentlemen is the politicization of the judicial system what law experts refer to as capture of system of course not river capture kkk. We claim to be civilised but we are still far from it when we detain opposition members for nothing while real criminals are walking freely. I hear they denied Nero to visit his comrades at Chikurubi Maximum prison, for the why? But I think it’s for their own good, Mfana uya haasi wekungorega achisvika pese pese anosiya atendeutsa vanhu maGuard Jeri ese akavhotera CCC come 2023 kkkk. Ane mudano mfana uya saka vasingadi asvike kuma perceived strongholds avo. But that is wrong ladies and gentlemen, you can’t deny a father access to his innocent son in jail while allowing others access to their murderers and rapist sons. That’s not fair kana ka1.
But president vakazombowanepi all those powers to determine who visits Chikurubi or not. Is that what the 2013 constitution say? Where is Mwonzora, iwe Dhagi huya pano utiudze kuti ndozvamakaisa mubumbiro renyika here naMangwana wako kuti kana vada kuona hama they sought clearance from the president? Speaking of Dhagi, Dhagi where are you kkk, my avid readers let me tell you about this useless man called Dhagi. He just caused by-elections by recalling people only to boycott the elections kkk. Kubikira vamwe mbodza iwe woiramba kkkk. But chaigodiiwo zvacho after getting Zeroes in the previous round. Baba Zero, I guess now he has exhausted all the tricks and Zanu PF is nowhere near to help zvayo. He was used and now dumped like a used condom. That’s Zanu Pf for you kana musingaizive ask Killer Zivhu. Ko constitutional law expert Prof Love, haaya varikuPOLAD maybe that’s why he is quiet.
Iwo maBy-elections ndakanzwa kuti Zanu PF tried all its tricks in the political book but vari kurohwa chete. Yeah by-elections serve as a litmus test for the final election. Yes the results are showing the possibilities for next year. The first truth is that the battle is between Zanu PF and CCC. Any sane person can now see that and it’s never too late to join either of the two parties. Imwe iParty yevanhu imwe Ndeyeropa so choose wisely ipapo kkkk. I think basing on the results, it’s high time we get rid of the useless Polad before it exhausts the Treasury for nothing. I hope these by-elections are a wakeup call for CCC that they should work hard as well as proving kuti Nero ane chaunga. However, Zanu PF is not sleeping, these wins should not make you complacent asi kana mati tingosiya varipo ivavo vatonge nyika ndeyavo we are just second class citizens kkk.
Did anyone see the preliminary results of the 2022 census? They show there is a lot of rural to urban migration yataidzidziswa naTeacher Mudefi kwaChiriMudombo uko. Life is hard for the rural folk and I am sure they now know kuti they have been bribed all along no one cares about bettering their lives.
As you all know Mapombi is a feminist though not a radical one, I only get radical when people hide the truth, haa ipapo ndinopenga chaiko. I know the people of Zimbabwe are divided over this lady who shocked Twimbos with her revelations dzaiita kunge asutswa nemweya waJohane achinyora zvakazarurwa kkkk. Mapombi is confused with sincerity of the presenter, her motive and the timing of the revelation. I don’t want to question her sanity for now, I am sure she is right upstairs. If she is ok then let’s look at the timing, Ladies and gentlemen, if we take brief look back to 2013, we had Baba Jukwa who became so popular revealing some intricate details of high profile meetings like what Susan is doing now. Everyone believed the chap and got carried away and it later dawned to the public that it was just a diversion ploy to divert attention of people. I am not saying Susan is the 2023 baba Jukwa or Mai Jukwa, all I am saying is let’s look at this with open minds kwete kutevera mhepo kunge shiri.
The anonymous Baba Jukwa character just vanished in thin air after voting, this time around it has a face, clever handiti? Munobvma chete. I think the rape issue if it’s true affected the lady’s mind. Riya ndorinonzi dhimoni rechihure riya, I think Apostle Kapandura should be called panyaya iyi. Sure kuita danga revarume here 32 vese wakaoma hako at 33 years and an average of a man each year you have been on planet earth. I feel pity for Susan for all she alleges to have went through, but I guess something is not right on the whole issue. Why targeting only men from the same pool, isn’t this a trick kuti last minute mozonzwa kuti ndakarara naMwonzora, Chamisa, naBiti, naSikhala kkkk. But maCITIZENS akaoma futi, I saw her picture with Nero but no one commented on it kkk, nyararai henyu but mark my words hezvino ndiripano.

I just hope mutemo will be applied without favour mwana awane zororo. I just wonder the timing of the revelation and Baba Jukwa set a bad precedence by misleading us and diverted our attention for the benefit of the same Zanu PF so now isu tinoonera hatichamhanyi kungobvuma.

But you are a well-seasoned campaigner in these bedroom affairs it’s only that Beijing haina kuzoti kuitwe ministry otherwise you would be the minister deputized by Sexmorehardy Duggish kkkk. It’s just that I have been sceptical of quite a number of reforms pronounced by the terrible duo to such an extent that even if they come up with something meaningful, I always doubt it.

Councilor caught pants down with school pupil in own lodge

Brighton Chiseva

CHIREDZI – Masvingo Provincial Councilors for Ensuring Development (Councilors 4ED) chairperson who is Chiredzi Urban’s ward 2 councillor Obert Ngwenya was allegedly caught pants down with a lower six Hippo Valley High School pupil at his Westhood Lodge by one of his workers.
Ngwenya is alleged to have dated the pupil for some days and would send his driver only identified as Phiri to pick up the girl and her two friends at the school to his lodge where he would have quality time with the girl while her friends were in another room.
Hell broke loose when Ngwenya failed to buy food for the victim’s friends who then began to gossip around the school until it reached school authorities who investigated the matter leading to expulsion of the three pupils.
Hippo High School Head could neither confirm nor deny the incident but referred questions to the District Schools Inspector (DSI).
“You can get in touch with the DSI, she is our spokesperson and the right person you should talk to,” he said.
When asked if the matter had been reported there, the school head said it definitely could not have not reached her office.
Contacted for comment, the DSI Petronella Nyangwe said she could not comment on the matter via the phone and asked the reporter to send written questions so that she could forward them to the Provincial Education Director (PED)’s office.
“I cannot discuss about that matter over the phone, why don’t you send questions of what you want to know so that I forward them to the PED. I think she is the one who can comment on the on the matter,” said Nyangwe.
A source said the matter was however not reported to the police because one of the parents with the children in question is a teacher at the school and is allegedly afraid of Ngwenya and her reputation as a teacher.
“The victim’s mother is a teacher at Hippo so she was said to be afraid of soiling her reputation. She was also afraid of Ngwenya whom she said is too powerful and may harm her, reason why she could not report to the police.
“When the matter came to light, the pupils were asked to write reports in which they indicated that the girl in question is the one who started talking to the councilor pretending to be someone else until they agreed to date and later visited the lodge several times.
“They were then expelled from school but the parents came and spoke to the school and the DSI ordered their readmission to school saying it was unlawful for them to expel pupils because of the matter,” said the source.
In letters leaked from the school attributed to the girl and her friends, she narrated how she had asked for Ngwenya’s contact and talked to him pretending to be someone until they fell in love and the politician began to pick her and friends to Westhood lodge.
“One day we were in class (name withheld) talked about blessers (those old men who date school children, having sex with them giving them money) and she mentioned Mr Ngwenya. I asked for his number. We started chatting. I even called him pretending to be (Name withheld), a girl he once dated. I wanted him to send me money but he did not…” read part of the leaked letter.
On the day in question she said one of the lodge’s employees entered the room, found Ngwenya naked and she screamed loudly such that her friends who were in another room heard the screaming.
She was ordered to go to the other room and she told her friends what had happened.
“On Thursday, it was a sports day again, the three of us went to the lodge. We were collected by the same car by Phiri and we were in school uniforms. We went to the lodge to collect Mr Ngwenya. We then went to town together with him. We were bought two boxes of Chicken Inn and one box of pizza which (Name withheld) had ordered.
“We went back to the lodge then (names withheld) locked themselves in a room whilst I and Mr Ngwenya were in another room. We just kissed and when he was about to put off my clothes, a maid just came in unknowingly. She was like Maiwee-e and ran away because Mr Ngwenya had already put off his trousers. Mr Ngwenya ordered me to go in that other room,” read the letter.
Another letter by the girl’s friend alleges that on July 1 they went again to the lodge and the victim came back with red eyes and on being asked why her eyes were red she said it was exhaustion from a hard work she had done inside the lodge.
“Then Friday 01 July I refused to go but (name withheld) begged me and I went with them. We were left in the other room and she was in the other with Mr Ngwenya, they took about 20 -30 minutes then she came and we asked her why her eyes were red and she replied that ‘Pashandwa basa’,” read part of the letter.
The source said the matter had since opened a can of worms as a number of organizations that deal with the girl child are getting involved.
“The matter is being suppressed and Ngwenya is doing all he can to sweep the matter under the carpet but several organizations that deal with the girl child have now been involved and it’s just a matter of time before it blows,” said a source.
Contacted for comment Ngwenya said he was in a meeting and said he will revert back while on another attempt to get his side of the story he said he was travelling and would get in touch later.

School pupils, teachers trek 1,5 km to access water

…as siltation takes a toll on local Dam

Courage Dutiro

A primary school in Buhera district is facing a water crisis as the nearest potable water source is located 1, 5 kilometers away from the school.
The country’s constitution enshrines the right to clean, safe and potable water for every citizen.
Buhera Residents Network Trust coordinator Leonard Mabasa said teachers and pupils at Mupeza Primary school in ward 23 travel a journey of 3km to bring the precious liquid to their bases.
“Travelling 1,5 km distance to access water at Mutume area popularly known as kwaChukira where there is a bush pump is an uphill task for both pupils and teachers, ” said Mabasa.
He also said Mupeza Primary School is facing a serious water shortage which is also forcing some teachers to transfer from the school.
“Teachers are transferring from the school because of acute water problems. The water crisis needs to be averted soon before it reaches catastrophic levels,” said Mabasa.
He also appealed to the responsible authorities to swiftly address the problem.
“We appeal to Buhera District Civil Protection Committee to look into the matter and take swift action. Efforts were done in the past 6 months to drill a borehole but with no success. We appeal for another chance.” he said.
Buhera District Council Ward 23 councilor Enias Gonese said the water crisis issue at Mupeza primary was new to him and what he only knew is that the silted-up dam needs to be scooped.
“What I know is the dam needs to be scooped only, the issue of water crisis at Mupeza primary school is new to me, I will confirm. The dam needs sediment removal,” said Gonese.
Due to unsustainable human activities, dams are being choked by siltation leaving some communities vulnerable to hunger, water scarcity and loss of livelihoods including livestock.
Siltation of small dams is affecting the country’s water storage capacity.
In a country that is facing the effects of Climate change, small dams can be used as reservoir dams that can be linked with big dams to counter climate change-induced droughts in some communities.

New Pathology, Research and Diagnostic Centre commissioned at MSU

Tinaani Nyabereka

Gweru -President Emmerson Mnangagwa last week commissioned a state of the art National Pathology, Research and Diagnostic Centre at the Midlands State University, the first of its kind in Zimbabwe.
President Mnangagwa laid the foundation stone last year in November when he expressed the need to transform institutions of Higher and Tertiary Education into innovation hubs.
Speaking during the official opening of the facility last week Friday, President Mnangagwa said his government was moving with the development thrust to promote education 5.0 which is results based.
He added that this vision was there to improve the country’s health sector so that citizens do not look for health services abroad.
“In August 2017, l had a slight incident of poisoning and was airlifted to Gweru then eventually l was in South Africa.
“I then made a decision that similar medical facilities in South Africa should be in Zimbabwe as well. That’s when I saw the need and instructed MSU to come up with this state of the art medical facility.
“However my government will continue to create an enabling economic environment where business should thrive, that this is why l say Zimbabwe is open for business,” he said.
He further said that Zimbabwe is supposed to enhance its tourism through effective medical tourism and construction of state of the art facilities.
“Zimbabwe must become a medical tourism hub. I implore the private sector to complement government efforts by engaging in the development of state of art medical centres in tourist destinations.
“As our tourism grows we say, in areas such as Victoria falls where the elite come we need to have improved medical care because complains have been made that the area doesn’t have a proper medical centre, hence that becomes a constraint.
“My vision is for our country to provide better health services across the region as we have demonstrated here at the Midlands State University Medical Pathology and Diagnostic Centre,” he added.
Vice President who is also the Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Constantino Chiwenga said the country is battling a number of challenges within the health sector.
“If we don’t build our own facilities, no one will build them for us, I am happy that the President heard our cry as a country and today here we are, looking at the state of Art Pathology, Research and Diagnostic centre.
“Let me acknowledge that, our health sector is encountering a series of challenges and these cannot be solved over a single day.
“We can state things such as skilled professional and health staff, inadequate infrastructure and medications, all these need a dedicated front as demonstrated here, as we can achieve a lot.
