Chief Neshuro, villagers clash over grazing lands

0

Chief Neshuro

 Maryline Katenjele

MWENEZI- Villagers from the Hume
area in Rutenga are up in arms with Chief Neshuro, born Rodwell Gudo, whom they
accuse of parceling out their grazing lands to home seekers.

Villagers
say that their livestock will soon have no grazing lands as much of the
reserved land was being sold to the highest bidder.

Chief
Neshuro denied the allegations saying no grazing land has ever been sold and
people should not soil his name.

“Why
should we destroy our grazing lands? Here in Mwenezi we have a huge herd and if
we do not leave the grazing lands what will happen to that herd?

“I have
never sold any land and I was at one point approached by officials from the
ministry of lands who wanted to allocate land to their people and I told them
to engage my village heads.

“As far
as I am concerned, we have not given any land to anyone and there has been no
pegging on our grazing lands,” said Chief Neshuro.

Village
head Taurai Chikweza confirmed that there was a dispute between home seekers,
who are encroaching grazing lands, and villagers saying they once sought
recourse from the ministry of lands.

“The
land which has been reserved for our domestic animals to graze was recently
pegged for some home seekers.

“We
engaged the district lands office over the issue but they could not give us an
ear as the people who did the pegging claimed they were acting above board,”
said Chikweza.

Sources
said that Chief Neshuro, through his headman one Dzingai Makurirofa of Sonop
Ranch, was facilitating the pegging of the grazing lands.

“As has
become the norm here under Chief Neshuro’s area of jurisdiction, the land is not
given free of charge. One has to either part with his cash or some beasts in
order to acquire land.

“This
was the case with the would-be beneficiaries of the grazing land of 7B in
Rutenga West.

“The
Chief was paid by the would-be beneficiaries and headman Makurirofa is the one
who is facilitating all this,” said the source.

Stray lion killed in Triangle after a week of terror

Sergeant Mavhuni with the dead lion

Blessed Mandaza

TRIANGLE
Tongaat Hulett Zimbabwe (THZ) recently hired a professional hunter to help its
Game Rangers track a marauding stray lion which was first spotted on January 15, 2020.

Its
spoor was tracked from Section 8 right into Triangle’s business centre before
being shot at sugarcane Plot 1801 of Section 26.

Workers
and villagers in Triangle had been living in fear of the king of the jungle
since January 15, with others speculating that it was a ruse by the sugar
company which was meant to scare people from unnecessary movements in light of
the spread of coronavirus.

According
to a memo dated January 15, 2020, THZ game rangers spotted a lion spoor which they
tracked from Section 8 all the way to Duly’s Shopping Centre.

The
spoor disappeared into the hill adjacent to BancABC and the recently opened
Gain Supermarket.

“Employees
and all members of the community are strongly advised to keep away from the hill
and avoid unnecessary outdoor movement on foot within the Triangle Area until the
animal has been accounted for,” read the memo

Since
then, THZ Game Rangers led by one Sergeant Mavhuni have been tracking the lion
which had already killed four cows from the community.

After
failure to track the predator due to incessant rains, the company hired a
professional hunter who took less than 24 hours to track and contain the
predator at around 1900hours in a cane field.

According
to source, the hunter had no intention to kill the lion but feared could lose
track of it because of continuous rains.

“The
lion was killed at around 1900hours at plot number 1801 of section 26. They
feared to lose track of it due to rains so they decided to kill it before it could
take any human life,” said a source.

Last
year, THZ game rangers, in partnership with Malilangwe Conservancy Trust
scouts, managed to drive back a male lion which had broken lose from the
conservancy into Hippo Valley Estates.

Fear of neglect— Tugwi-Mukosi families resist relocation

Tugwi-Mukosi dam, Zimbabwe’s largest
inland water body, has reached 100 percent capacity and started spilling putting
the lives of about 800 families downstream in danger but the families have
refused the government’s proposal to relocate them.

The families say that they fear to
suffer the same fate as that of the previous relocation effected by the government
when disaster struck in 2014, where families were ‘dumped’ without compensation
and proper shelter.

Chivi, Chiredzi and Mwenezi districts
are on high risk of being affected and at least 800 families are expected to
move into centers identified by the government as safe areas.

Government spokesperson, Nick Mangwana,
said some families were refusing to be relocated saying only 124 families out
of 800 had so far consented to evacuations.

Tugwi -Mukosi had its first spill from Saturday night. Downstream
communities are earmarked for evacuation. Of About 800 families in five Wards
identified for evacuation to centres or relatives, only 124 families in Ward 22
have indicated willingness to be evacuated,” said Mangwana.

Masvingo Provincial Development
Coordinator (PDC) Jefter Sakupwanya said they have only managed to move about
50 families while negotiations are still underway for the remaining ones.

“We have so far managed to move 50
families to safe places but we are having serious challenges with others who
are refusing to move.

“There are a lot of reasons being cited
but what we are concerned about at the moment is the safety of our people. Some
families are saying the government failed to honor its obligation to compensate
the 2014 flood victims but that is not accurate.

“Compensation was paid, though it took
time for some families to receive their shares,” said Sakupwanya.

He said some families were opting to
move in with relatives saying they fear contracting the coronavirus if they mix
with other families during the relocation.

“Some families are in fear of Covid-19
and we understand them so they are rather opting to move in with their
relatives. If they are safe with their relatives it’s all the better for us
because our priority is people’s safety,” said Sakupwanya.

The infamous 2014 Tugwi-Mukosi national
disaster which saw thousands of families being relocated, later became a
humanitarian crisis after the government failed to provide for the affected
families.

Zimbabwe National Water Authority
(ZINWA) has revealed that Tugwi-Mukosi dam was 100 percent full with a
discharge of 20 mega liters per second as of January 24.

NDS 1: Youth Essence challenges young people to be involved

GWERU

Youth Essence (YE), a Midlands community-based organization, has challenged
young people to get actively involved in such important national policies as
the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1).

NDS1 is a key government
program being championed by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development to
turnaround the economic fortunes of the country.

The call for greater
young involvement was made during a virtual seminar held recently under the
theme, ‘Advancing youth driven progress for sustainable national development’.

Youth Essence
development researcher, Nozipho Rutsate said young people should take keen
interest in national economic programmes.

“Lack of look
youth participation is a setback for the advancement of young people. Youths need
to take a lead and be involved in national initiatives that determine their
future. The youth want jobs and land for them to make progress but they should
help make it happen,” said Rutsate.

NDS 1 was launched on
January 01, 2021 under the theme ‘Towards a prosperous and empowered upper
middle income society by 2030.’

It succeeded the
Transitional Stabilisation Programme (STP) and will run until 2025 after which
the National Development Strategy (NDS 2) will take over until 2030.

NDS 1 envisions Integrated
Results Based Management (IRBM) systems complemented by public sector reforms.

It aims to contribute
to government’s Vision 2030 through many things including acceleration of
value-addition, creation of at least 760 000 formal jobs by 2025 and maintenance
of statutory limits of domestic and external debt to below 70 percent of GDP.

“Youths must work
hand in hand with responsible ministries so that they are not left behind. If
we don’t engage them, we wouldn’t benefit because production needs innovate
minds. NDS 1 could be an opportune platform for us to exhibit our potential to
alleviate poverty,” said Rutsate.

However, some youths said
they felt the NDS 1 needed to be unpacked more as it was too complex to
understand.

Tanaka Mangachena, who
participated in the seminar said a layman approach was needed to breakdown the
blue print especially on financial and economic terminologies.

“Someone has to
give information in layman’s terms so that we all understand what exactly is
going on. GDP, fiscalization, monetary policy, fiscal policy and all those
other financial terms must be explained in simpler terms. How does Gross
Domestic Product go in the negative, what causes it?” said Mangachena.

Gweru to levy 19 percent interest on defaulters

Josiah Makombe

…offers 20 percent discount on
serviced accounts

 Tinaani

City of Gweru has said that it will levy a 19 percent
interest per annum on all unpaid bills saying the council is facing challenges
to provide services with a ballooning debt of over $270 million.

Mayor Josiah Makombe said that residents were not playing
their part for council to provide services saying service delivery is a two way
process.

“Our residents seem to have shun the goodwill by council as
most are not paying their bills.

“This has seen debts accumulating to $277,719 803 as of November
30, 2020. Council has resolved to levy an interest of 19 percent per annum on
defaulters and reward the loyal payers by a discount of 20 percent on their
monthly bills.

“Our information team is working on the modalities and very
soon residents will receive statements reflecting these interest elements,”
said Makombe.

He called on residents
to approach the council and make payment plans to service their accounts.

“Council has to deliver services to the residents and that
can only happen when residents pay their bills. If residents do not pay, councils
cannot deliver services.

“A lot of residents cry that services have deteriorated but
what they fail to realize is that they are the ones responsible for making the
wheel turn. We do not grow money and we need residents to pay so that we could
deliver,” said Makombe.

He said that the local authority managed to procure three
high lift water pumps and are expected to be delivered this January.

“We have managed to pay for the three high lift water pumps
procured from South Africa and the process of clearing the pumps is in progress.
We want to improve water supply in the city,” said Makombe.

Women rights advocacy groups adapt to Covid-19 new normal

Joyce Mhungu

…calls
for access to health facilities, quality service delivery

TellZim Reporter

The second wave
of Covid-19 has brought about a new way of life and doing business across the
globe as the world battles to contain the deadly pandemic which has claimed
over 800 lives in Zimbabwe.

Companies have
closed, jobs have been lost and this has raised tempers in homes, prompting
gross Gender Based Violence (GBV) cases in Zimbabwean homes, with women being
the major victims.

Women advocacy
groups have pledged not to tire in their fight against GBV and for a fair
society where women and men are equal in all aspects.

Speaking during
a recent CEADZ grassroots meeting, Women’s Coalition of Zimbabwe Masvingo
Chapter Chair, Joyce Mhungu said her organization was engaging relevant
stakeholders on the service delivery challenges facing women in the Covid-19
induced lockdown.

“We are trying to forward issues affecting
women to relevant authorities especially GBV cases. However, we have noted that
women have so many challenges especially service delivery and access to health
services. In this lockdown we will not tire; we will continue working
tirelessly to achieve an equal society,” said Mhungu.

During the
workshop, local women lamented the inconveniences they claimed they suffer when
they want to access the police Victim Friendly Unit (VFU) especially on weekends
and during holidays.

“Most GBV cases
happen during the night, weekends or holidays and the VFU people don’t work
during those times. It is therefore a great inconvenience and sometimes they
respond at a snail’s pace. Something should be done to improve the way VFU
operates because cases are increasing day by day,” said one participant.

Other women
rights advocacy groups said they have also adapted to the new normal and
efforts to improve the welfare of women in rural areas were underway.

The Institute
for Community Development in Zimbabwe (ICODZIM) has continued to work with
women in rural areas in their effort to improve livelihoods of women in
Masvingo and beyond.

ICODZIM
programs manager, Nyaradzo Mutande said they were in a drive to train health
workers in rural communities and that they were conducting online seminars
advocating for access to Sexual Reproductive Health services during the
lockdown,” said Mutande.

“We have
managed to train a total of 40 women health workers from Zaka and Chiredzi on
rapid response and how they can help the Ministry of Health in the fight
against Covid-19. During this lockdown we are doing advocacy on online
platforms for consistent access to Sexual Reproductive Health services as we
adapt to the new normal,” said Mutande.

Stop playing politics with Covid-19

Mapombi
has been fasting for three days after mai vedu, amai, mhamha Auxy called on all
women to fast for this country as Covid, Covivi, Covildo has hit the highest
offices. Dear Lord God protect our country. Protect the poor man, women and
children who are suffering under the imposed national lockdown. Let Covid-19
deal with those who run down our health delivery system. These are the same
people who said hurumende yavo yakaisvonaka zvekuti chero kudenga hakuna
yakadaro. These are the same people who built mortuaries when our economy was
dying hanzi ndakaisa ruoko ende inotonhorera kkk kuseka nhamo serugare. Mwari
pindirai pasi rapinda pakuparadzwa with this so called China virus. But Auxy
please stop telling us to fast when we have been fasting for all our lives. We
are fasting not by choice but because we have no food.

Iwe
wagutisa hako kuState House kwenyu ikoko, moita maparty against all Covid-19
guidelines then morohwa with Covid-19 and then, without any shame, come to us
and tell us to help you fast- usadaro iwe. Where were you when your husband
Emmerson decided to lock people up in their homes for 30 days without even
bothering to think what people will eat. Our people live one day at a time and
locking them up without giving them any aid is atrocious. You have been wining
and dining during the festive season muchitidadira isu vana Mapombi and some
poor people in Mbare organized their own end of year event and you arrested
them. Now Karma is dealing with you. I hear machinja have since stopped saying
famba Chamisa tiyambuke and are busy saying famba Covid-19 tiyambuke.

Tell me
machinja, munoda kuyambuka kuenda kupi chaiko. Musakanganwa chazuro nehope.
Remember what happened in 2017 when we all celebrated the removal of Robert
Mugabe. What followed was a new dispensation which turned out to be a façade
and people started crying to go back to Egypt. Everyone is now saying Mugabe
was better and Mapombi asks in what way was the old man, may his soul rest in
peace, better. This so called change has proven to be a bad idea so let us just
stay nehurumende yedu iyoyi kkkk I know some will say Mapombi is losing her
mind but please try to understand where I am coming from, there are no longer
any rotten bananas to come by since Chitima chakavharwa. I become delirious
sometimes and I end up saying crazy stuff because of hunger. Over the past few
days we have seen that Covid-19 has been fishing in the big-fish pond and there
is pandemonium kumusoro ikoko. Zvakatadzikwa naChamisa I am sure mukoma Covid
can do it better.

Oppah
Muchinguri where are you. I have a word or two for you. Do you remember when
you said that Covid-19 is a sanction against the West for imposing sanctions on
us? What did you mean by that? You knew the truth but decided to play to the
gallery for political expediency. The Chinese brought this doomsday virus on
the world and you decided to ignore that fact for political bickering. Now that
Covid has harvested one of your own close ally Ellen Gwaradzimba you begin to
see the light kkkk. I am happy at least that you have acknowledged that the
Chinese have threatened the existence of the human race. We know you play with
the Chines but please learn to speak truth to power. Rest in Peace Gwaradzimba.
You may have been all powerful and stuff but no amount of firepower, security,
army or violence can protect this government from what’s coming. Covid-19 is
not Chamisa chamunodashura ngendonga choridza mhere. Covid-19 ndichigara
matombo matanda anoora. The situation in our country has reached another level.

The
Heroes Acre will be full this time mirai henyu muone. Gwaradzimba, Malianga,
Matiza, SB Moyo and Zimondi are all gone. Ari saSB Moyo I feel sorry for him.
Mugabe is waiting for him on the side neshamhu ine munyu. These guys thought
they were larger than death. They thought they had title deeds to this country.
Ko mabhachura maviri akaendepiko kkkk. I am not going to mention them by name
because zvinokuvadzisa but I know Covid-19 has my back. Covid-19 never
disappoints. I want to make it categorically clear that I don’t wish death on
anyone. It is my wish to see all Zimbabweans showing compassion towards one
another. We are one people. Regardless of our political differences, we swear
our allegiances to the flag. When the enemy comes, we should all fight from the
same corner. It is this government which made itself public enemy number one.
They run down our health delivery system because they sought medical attention outside.
Now that Covid-19 has changed all that, we will all die here. Who ever thought
that Covid-19 will kill SB Moyo, definitely not Mapombi.

But
Zanu PF never learns. Instead of them taking them blame and working to make
sure that the people get those vaccines, they have a conspiracy theory hanzi
heee there are doctors deliberately killing their officials. Doctors do not
kill people iwe Nick Mangwana musoro bhangu. Doctors save lives and what is
killing your people is Covid-19. Zimbabweans wish death on all Zanu PF chefs
and I don’t honestly blame them. They are right because these are the same
people who have caused the suffering of the masses. Be honest with yourself iwe
Mangwana and face reality. Covid-19 has killed hundreds of our people and you
have not been moved but when it kills a handful of the elite you then start
making noise.

Let us
not play politics with Covid-19. Every life is sacred. We should not wish death
on anyone. On daily basis, Zimbabweans pray and hope that another big wig
falls. Chete nothing is normal in Zimbabwe. The government has made itself an
enemy of the public and the public only has wishes to their side. They wish
that Covid-19 kills every Zanu PF official which is why you see social media
killing the likes of Chinamasa and Matemadanda. These guys should ask
themselves what they have done to deserve that. I have never heard anyone
wishing Mapombi dead. Why would anyone want Mapombi dead kkkk. But kunana ED
ikoko haaa the whole nation has its fingers crossed cheering Covid-19 on. It is
a wet dream of orgasmic proportion to think that Covid-19 will shift the
balance of power. Ndapedza nemi kkkk. Regai zvangu ndinokanga maputi angu for
lunch. Mboko imboko.

Time running out for Loga

0

Zdravko Logarusic

Clayton Shereni

The appointment of Zdravko Logarusic as the man in charge of
the Warriors was received with mixed feelings, with some saying his ‘vast’
experience in the game will help improve the team’s performance while other
referred to him as a failed clown.

The Warriors fan base was surely divided, some thought his
marriage with Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) would end the Valinhos way,
while the optimistic fans thought he would assemble a formidable side that
would match the Reinhard Fabisch’s ‘Dream Team’.

Some of the notable critics of his appointment were Warriors
and Liverpool legend, Bruce Grobbelaar who slammed Zifa for appointing a novice
of Zim’s football landscape.

Local coaches have had their chance and some have achieved
to a certain extent, with the likes of

Sunday Chidzambwa and Calisto Pasuwa leaving a mark and
writing their own pieces of history.

Loga’s charges at the CHAN 2021 tourney were booted out with
a game to spare, with many attributing the poor performance to lack of fitness
on the local players.

It is a public secret that currently Zimbabwe has one of its
finest football generations and any coach would struggle to pick from the cream
de la cream.

However, having dozens of quality players should not be an
excuse for failure to scout for the best but surely a blessing.

During his unveiling as the Warriors head coach in February
2020, Loga promised to shame his critics by turning around the team’s
performance for the better.

He however pleaded for but for patience from local
stakeholders.

“I am not Messiah I don’t know everything. I have something
but I have to take the best from you and we can put it together to create
something, that is what is important for me,” said Loga during the presser.

The Croat has surely proved not to be a Messiah if statistics
from all his outings are something to go by.

He needed more time to assess players who have been inactive
for a long time due to the lockdown, and pressure is building up against him.

He collected a paltry two points from the six games he has
handled; one against Malawi another one against Algeria in an Afcon qualifier
return leg at the National Sports Stadium.

Against Algeria, the Warriors grabbed a late equalizer
courtesy of Prince Dube whom Loga had said to be a fantastic and inform striker
but could not choose him ahead of those playing in much competitive leagues.

The Croat seemed to be a nonsense gaffer after changing over
half of his provisional CHAN squad during the training camp.

Loga initially called up Dynamos goalie Simbarashe Chinani,
dropped him from the squad, called in Taimon Mvula to ‘assess’ him, dropped
Mvula and called Chinani back into the squad.

Chinani went on to have a horror night in Cameroon on
January 20 after being given the nod ahead of Highlanders veteran goal minder,
Ariel Sibanda who also had his fair chance in a one nil loss against the hosts.

The clown tag once again hanged on Loga’s head after the
defeat as he alleged the hosts had used ‘juju’ to win the match after he found
a bat in the field of play. Loga posed for a photo next to the bat with a piece
of paper written “Witchcraft in Cameroon”.

However, Zifa has many questions to answer as to why they
keep on encountering the same problems over and over again.

Training camps have always been affected by poor planning
while some players have allegedly faked injuries to avoid doing duty for
‘peanuts’.

The association was pressured to charter a plane for the
Malawi friendly match last year after it had planned to send the team by bus
for the assignment.

The initially planned road trip sparked an outrage, with the
Footballers Union of Zimbabwe (FUZ) condemning the plan and calling on the
authorities to cancel the trip over concerns of players’ safety.

Zifa is reportedly paying the gaffer US$7000 a month amongst
other benefits a contract which has been criticized to be strain on the
association which is known for its very bad financial books.

Zimbabwe has an arsenal full of quality players both local
and foreign-based, and most of them are at the peak of their careers but they have
failed to be consistent when it comes to national duty.

Inconsistencies on recruitment of players and hiring and
firing of coaches is another factor which seems to be affecting the consistency
of players as they are being introduced to different philosophies in a short
space of time.

Thorough research on the success and qualities of a coach
before his appointment are key factors, so to avoid a scenario where coaches
are hired and fired in a short space of time for not producing the desired
results.

If the current results being produced by the team under Loga
mean anything, then the combination between the Croat and Zifa is a cause for
concern.

Alderman Doug Hill dies

Doug Hill

Agnes Madechihwe

Renowned Masvingo businessman and property owner Alderman
Dough Hill has died, TellZim News can report.

He died last night after fighting what was reported to be an
old-age related illness.

Family spokesperson Alicca Hill, who is the deceased’s
daughter-in-law, confirmed the Alderman Hill’s death but she was not at liberty
to immediately reveal finer details.

“He died last night and we are in mourning. We are compiling
a detailed information package about his life and death and we will share it with
the media,” said Alicca.

Charles Austin Theatre chairperson Charles Munganasa
expressed great sadness at the death of Aderman Hill whom he described as a
hero of the arts.

“He was a theatre hero and icon. He worked for the development
of young artists in Masvingo and we will always remember him for helping to develop
such young talent as Vamayaya, Sabhuku Vharazipi, Charles Munganasa and Khetani
Michael Banda.

“He worked hard to put Masvingo arts on the market. Masvingo
has lost a great person but he left a big legacy which we will always celebrate
for many years to come,” said Munganasa.

Alderman Hill served in the then Municipality of Fort
Victoria before retiring to focus on his businesses as well as on theatre.

He is probably best known as the owner of the Belmont Press
building complex which houses The Mirror newspaper which he started in 1992 as
Masvingo Mirror.

In the early 1980s, Hill started Masvingo Star newspaper which
he then sold to government’s NewZiana which ran the Community Newspaper Group
(CNG) which is now called the Community Newspaper Publishers (CNP).

Hill was a great lover and sponsor of theatre arts, having
worked with the then Masvingo Masvingo Theatre Circle now known as Masvingo
Theatre and Arts Club which is housed at Charles Austin Theatre.

The theatre was built in the late 1950s by a committee on
which Alderman Hill sat as a member.
