People to People raises US501 for deformed boy

People to People Organisation patron Edward Mukaratirwa hands over the monetary donation
TellZim Reporter
The People to People Organisation last week raised a total of
US$570 which was channeled towards greater fundraising efforts being done to
assist Tafadzwa Jabangwe to undergo surgical operations to remove lumps on his
back.
Tafadzwa is a 10-year-old boy from Chief Mapanzure’s area in Zvishavane
district who is suffering from huge lumps that have developed on his back.
The
People to People Organisation, which brings together people in the media
industry and other active citizens based in Masvingo, responded to a story
published by TellZim highlighting the plight of the boy.
The organisation then
managed to mobilise its own resources which were handed over to the family of
the boy. Speaking at the handover event, People to People Organisation patron,
Edward Mukaratirwa, who is also City of Masvingo Town Clerk, said he was
immensely moved by the boy’s story as covered by TellZim.
“The story moved me
and I could not just sit and do nothing. I am glad that that my colleagues
responded positively and we are here now handing over what we have. Thank you
TellZim for bringing to light such issues of great community need,” said
Mukaratirwa. For the original related story click this link

Lockdown
my foot…

… as Hungwe family throws wild party for graduate
son

Virginia
Njovo

There was a wild party at the Hungwe family lodge at Chivi
growth point last weekend, August 11, as the family celebrated the graduation
of Tariro Hungwe who had been studying overseas.

Tariro is son to Goldah Hungwe who is cousin to Josaya
Dunira Hungwe, the Zanu PF politburo member and senior party member from
Masvingo province.

A source told TellZim News that Tariro (pictured) recently came
back to the country from Ternopol, Ukraine, after completing his civil
engineering degree with a distinction.

The party was thrown at Fish and Eagle Lodge near
Mazorodze Primary School where hordes of invited guests enjoyed themselves.

TellZim News saw several vehicles, many of them
top-of-the-range, parked both inside and outside, with a noisy parade of other
cars driving around the streets honking their horns.

The parade also made brief stop at Chivi growth point
bus terminus where people disembarked from their vehicles, sang loudly and
danced while lifting Tariro aloft.

The national Covi-19 lockdown prohibits large
gatherings and in Bulawayo, wild parties have been blamed for the recent surge
in coronavirus cases.

I
have heard your cries and Iistened to your concerns dear readers. Mapombi being
a listening President ahhh sorry I mean to say writer, I have decided to avail
myself to you every week. Some may say Mapombi has become over ambitious to
dream of being the President of this country but I ask why not? Varume
varatidza kuti havazvigoni izvi. It’s time for Mapombi to take over. This
country now needs a mother’s touch. Madzimai muriko here uko. It has been
hectic for Mapombi to be consistent over the past months because of this
lockdown but ikozvino tsamba yavapo mutown muya ndakupinda manje. Zimbabwe is
said to have an over 90% unemployment rate but tsamba dzine vanhu
dzekwavanoshanda unoshaya kuti zviri kufamba sei kkkk. Covid-19 yakaunza mabasa
here. Munhu wese ane tsamba yekubasa woshaya kuti saka vanhu vanochemei. Regai
Zanu itonge because payakangoti lockdown, munhu wese atova nebasa overnight
kkkk.

Mapombi
does not have a roof over her head because our beloved city fathers have
destroyed kumba kwangu kuChitima. Vakaputsa putsa misika yose zvekuti chero
mabanana akaora hakuchina kana rimwe. Unfortunately I do not have a mobile
phone I could have told our Finance minister Mthuli Ncube to send me some of
the Covid money iya yainzi inopihwa kune vanotambura. Did anyone receive that
money by the way? The last I checked I heard Mthuli chichiti kwaita some data
capture errors what what after chamboti they used a sophisticated algorithm to
capture the data of the beneficiaries. Saka what was sophisticated ipapa nhai
Mthuli. I do not want to waste my time on this man otherwise blood pressure
yangu will go up. Unfortunately for us, all those big words from Mthuli’s goofy
mouth taste so sweet in the ears of our beloved President Cde Commander
-in-Chief  Dambudzo Mnangagwa. Mthuli
lies so much and Mnangagwa listens and takes notes. What is wrong with you iwe
Emmerson. Please wake up and smell Mthuli’s lies. People hate you Mr President
mostly because of the acts of the people surrounding you. Dismiss Mthuli today
and I guarantee you that 2023 you will not have to campaign, victory will be
guaranteed. Mufaro wakaitwa nevanhu muna November paya pamakaita coup
unodarikwa if you fire Mthuli. Thank me later Emmerson.

I
hear a lot of people saying we were better off under the white man’s rule but
Mapombi respectfully differ. Ava veganda jena are the worst people to even
admire. Dear black people, a white man will never like you and will never be
your equal. A white man may pretend to like you but to them you will always be
monkeys. Get that into your minds you people. Mnangagwa and his team have
failed us yes but never ever wish the white man was better. We have to liberate
ourselves from Zanu PF’s greediness and thievery. This is the only problem we
have found ourselves in. Zvenyu zvekuchemera varungu handidi kana kuzvinzwa.
Our fathers suffered under the white man’s rule which is why they decided to
take up arms against them. A lot of people died and we remember them as we
commemorate Heroes Day. Unfortunately Zanu PF lost the plot. They feel this
country is theirs and they can do whatever they want. If we stop corruption I
can bet my last rotten banana that Africa will be a jewel. We will make this
country and continent free and beautiful. We will create better opportunities
for everyone.  We have the human
resources to develop Africa but in the promise of better things, brutes have
risen to power. They kill and torture their people. Freedom of expression has
been criminalised. Soldiers have been unleashed on innocent civilians. A
difference in opinion is labelled a dark force or a terrorist by ED and his
goons. Our generation is too cowardly to confront this enemy and our only hope
is Covid-19. Famba corona tiyambuke kkkk.

Mnangagwa
and his Zanu PF should know that there is God in heaven. You may have guns
protecting you but when the messenger of death visits you, no gun or soldier
will save you. When Covid-19 comes, no amount of fire power will save you.
Famba corona tiyambuke. Shiri never thought he would die one day but he died of
Covid-19, at least that’s what we have been told or made to believe. What
killed him does not matter but what is important is that he died and he will
not be missed. What he did during the liberation struggle was heroic but he
lost the plot and turned his guns on his people during what became known as the
moment of madness. For that we say good riddance. May God do you justice Cde
Shiri. We hope Covid-19 will send many of your comrades wherever you are. Dear
God please spare the innocent civilians from the jaws of Covid but unleash the
full wrath of this pandemic on our tormentors. Zimbabwean lives matter Cdes.
Kana zvikarema ndoita nharo dzaMalema kkkk. But muchinda uya anonzi Malema is a
hot head chaiyo. He is fighting our struggle across the Limpopo and we are very
grateful. But Zimbabweans are so foolish sometimes. We are very good at
keyboard activism. Zimbabwean lives matter yes but social media will not bring
the change we need. Malema may stand with us but he will not deliver the change
we seek. Mnangagwa will not lose sleep over a hashtag on Twitter. Mr President
musavhundutswa neTwitter henyu imi. Nyatsai kuti zete zvenyu pachigaro chenyu
chinoera. It is not well within Zanu PF but our people fail to exploit this
weakness. There is a cold war brewing in Zanu PF and its getting warmer.
Ikozvino Chiwenga dzakaitwa minister of health kkkk what a joke.

What
does Chiwenga know about health? Hydroxychloroquine anoizva here Chiwenga. Asi
ED usadaro uri munhu wekuziva. Chiwenga may be your rival but there was no need
to expose him like that. Why the health ministry? Do you want him to fail so
that we blame him for what’s coming because Covid-19 haisati yatanga nesu. The
health sector has deteriorated and you decided to send someone whose health is
worse to lead such a critical ministry under this prevailing situation. I hear
vamwe vachiti Chiwenga dzine doctorate refashion and fabrics kkkkk musadaro imi
vanhu, respect the former general. To all nurses and doctors, hokoyo nenhamo.
This is the man who said you are skilled rebharazi and he will not hesitate to
hire and fire you if you are found wanting. I bet ED send Chiwenga to be on the
frontline of this Covid situation so that Covid will deal with him. Remember
Covid haitambisi those with underlying conditions and Chiwenga has plenty kkkk.
I am yet to see anyone in Zanu PF asina an underlying condition so watch out. I
have said enough regai ndinokanga maputi angu for lunch but before I go I would
like to welcome back chikomana Chamisa from leave. Chakambochema mai vacho
chikomana ichi and now he is back just like Mapombi. I hope Chamisa has had
time to think of strategies to deal with Zanu PF during his sabbatical. Mboko
imboko.

Police assault NCA official Chivasa for breaking curfew

0

Madock Chivasa

Clayton Shereni

Losing National Constitutional
Assembly (NCA) parliamentary candidate in the 2017 Bikita West parliamentary
by-election, Madock Chivasa has claimed that he was assaulted by drunken police
officers on Heroes day, August 10, for breaking the curfew.

In a Facebook post made yesterday,
August 11, Chivasa claimed he met police officers at 18:30hrs in Chesvingo
Drive in Masvingo soon after leaving his car at a public car park.

The post was accompanied by a
picture of a brutalised bare back.

“Yesterday evening, I was a
victim of police brutality in Masvingo Sisk area. It was around 6.30pm and I was
coming from the car park where I had parked my car. There was chaos in the
streets as everyone was just running and before I could figure out what was
happening, a truck with police officers just stopped in Chesvingo Drive and
asked me to get to the ground. My refusal to get to the ground earned me those
button sticks on my back.

“My other crime according to them
is why I was not running away like what others were doing. This is the
barbarism I don’t tolerate, disgusting police brutality. The police authorities
in Masvingo must stop deploying drunk policemen to beat up people in the
streets and singing vulgar. What kind of policing is that primitive mediocrity?”
wrote Chivasa.

After the imprisonment of Member
of Parliament (MP) Munyaradzi Kereke, Chivasa contested in the Bikita West
parliamentary by-election and lost to Beauty Chabaya of Zanu PF but he has
remained one of the more prominent members of the Lovemore Madhuku-led NCA.

Police deployed in Masvingo’s
high density suburbs often beat up residents while enforcing the dusk to dawn curfew
regulations announced in July by President Emmerson Mnangagwa ostensibly to
help fight the spread of coronavirus.

Bikita woman in bush rape ordeal

Christian Kwaramba

The
Masvingo Magistrates’ Court has remanded a Bikita man in custody for allegedly
raping a village woman who had gone to gather firewood in the bush.

Jephias
Chiponda (20) of Pedzai village under chief Mukanganwi in Bikita stands accused
of having sexual intercourse with a 22-year-old woman without her consent.

The
State claimed that on June 2020, the complainant went to the bush to gather
firewood when Chiponda accosted her from behind, grabbed her waist and stripped
her to the ground.

Chiponda
removed the complainant’s undergarments that he tore in the process, and went
on to forcefully have sexual intercourse with her once.

The
complainant screamed for help and her mother who was not very far away ran to
investigate. Upon realising what was happening, the mother shouted against
Chiponda who then fled the scene.

A
report was made to the police and the complainant was referred to hospital
where she was medically-examined.

In
the court, the accused pleaded not guilty although the investigating officer
who came as a witness said he had initially admitted raping the woman.

The
State produced medical report which showed that some bruises on the
complainant’s private parts were already healing.

The
magistrate remanded Chiponda to August 30 for determination of the case.

Inmates sleep in the open at chaotic quarantine centre

MUTARE
Some 10 returnees quarantined
at Magamba Training Centre on Thursday slept in the open for fear of
contracting Covid-19 after authotities mixed new returnes with those that had
been there for long.

The returnees chose to sleep in the open because they did not want to be
mixed with new arrivals whom they feared were potential coronavirus sources.

The returnees who spoke to TellZim News said it was only
logical for authorities to release everybody at once as they were failing to
properly manage the facility.

Some said they had been detained there for over 28 days
and were offended that new arrivals were getting admitted into the same hostels
as everybody else.

Farai Makuyana who is one the returnees quarantined at
Magamba Training Centre said he felt that the centre had become a new site of
possible new coronavirus infections.

“We are living like prisoners because yesterday, we
slept outside the hostels for fear of being exposed to possible infection from
new arrivals. There are no sanitisers and we are sharing same bathrooms and
toilets with the new returnees whose samples have not yet been taken for
testing.

“We came here on July 10 and we have spent more than
28 days without being given our results yet two PCR testing exercises were
conducted. Dr Cephas Fonte came on Tuesday with results for nine returnees and
promised to return the following day with the other results but he never came
back and is not picking his calls,” said Makuyana.

“We want to be discharged and they must follow World
Health Organisation guidelines. We had two weeks without water, no good food,
toiletries and sanitisers,” he said.

Last weekend, some returnes staged a hunger strike which
forced authorities to partialy respond to their concerns.

A returnee who spoke on condition of anonymity said he
was happy to reunite with his family after being discharged from the quarantine
centre on August 04.

“I am happy to be at home with my family after a
long struggle at Magamba where I had very bad experiences. They made fake
promises that we they will give us enough food, sanitisers and running water.

“When we got there, we could not even have proper
baths because there was no water for over two weeks and we then staged a hunger
strike. That is when they started to provide water and sanitisers,” he
said.

Another ex-inmate desctibe the quarantine centre as a prison.

“We were 19 and only nine of us were discharged on
Tuesday. The other 10 who were part of our group are still at the centre and
the doctor is ignoring them,” said the ex-inmate.

In late July, the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society (ZRCS) in
partnership with Coca-Cola Foundation donated an assortment of goods to
quarantine centres in Manicaland as part of efforts to mitigate the effects of Covid-19.

Tongaat donates 10 ventilators to Masvingo

Minister Chadzamira and Health officials with having a look at one of the donated items

Clayton Shereni

Tongaat
Hulett on August 07 donated 10 portable ventilators and 10 portable patient
monitors to Masvingo Provincial Hospital through the Covid-19 provincial
taskforce as part of the corporate giant’s contribution to health facilities
that are fighting the coronavirus pandemic.

The
donation also comprised medicinal supplies, body bags, suction machines, blood
pressure machines, oxygen gauges and oxygen masks.

Before
this, Masvingo province had only two ventilators at Rujeko Isolation Centre.

Speaking
during the handover ceremony, Tongaat Hulett corporate affairs executive,
Adelaide Chikunguru said they were committed to aiding the fight against the
virus.

“Previously,
we made a donation to the President and now we have come with another one for
Masvingo. This equipment is worthy more than $10.3 million. As Tongaat Hulett, we
hope this donation will help the fight against Covid-19 in the province,” said
Chikunguru.

The
Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Ezra
Chadzamira, who is also provincial Covid-19 taskforce chairperson, hailed the
sugarcane company for the gesture.

“Tongaat
has always been there to support us and I would like to thank them for the
great work they are doing in all the seven districts. I call upon other private
players to engage government in the fight against this deadly disease in line
with the engagement and reengagement efforts by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The
handover ceremony also saw pastors from various churches in the province
getting food hampers from Awake Grace Ministries.

Awake
Grace Ministries church leader Apostle Joyce Gombami said they felt a need to
help preachers most of whom were struggling to survive.

“Ï
was born in Masvingo and I thought of giving back to my mother province. I
don’t want pastors from my area to starve during these hard times so this is a
small token to cushion God’s servants during the lockdown period,” said
Gumbani.

The
church also donated two tonnes of mealie meal to the provincial taskforce.

Govt calls for balanced Covid-19 reporting

Nick Mangwana addresses members of the subcommittee

Upenyu Chaota

Government has called
for balanced reporting on Covid-19, saying the media needed to give a moderated
picture of the challenges at hand by highlighting both the negatives and the
gains being made.

Speaking with members
of a the Masvingo Covid-19 Taskforce’s Risk Communication Subcommittee on
Saturday, August 08, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana said the media should use their
influence to warn the public without panicking them.

He spoke in the wake of
a steady rise of both new coronavirus cases and recovery cases in the country.

“For anybody to achieve
whatever they want to achieve, they need hope. Let the media spread the message
of hope without appearing to be downplaying the dangers of the pandemic. If you overemphasize
the ominous messages, you then have a society in panic, and if you focus only
on the recoveries being recorded, people become negligent thinking that the virus does not kill. It should therefore be about striking a logical
balance,” said Managwana.

As on August 08, the
country had recorded a cumulative number of 4 575 confirmed cases of coronavirus, 1 416
recoveries and 102 deaths.

Mangwana said the fight
against the pandemic needed collective efforts, and praised the subcommittee’s non-partisan
unity of purpose in communicating risk and combating fake news with zero
budget.

The subcommittee is
chaired by Masvingo Provincial Information Officer (PIO) Rogers Irimayi and
comprises members of the local media as well as government departments.
