Chirima High pupils victimised over TellZim story

Chirima High School head, Henry Mugwira

…as more allegations against school head emerge

Brighton Chiseva

BIKITA – Following the recent publication of a story by TellZim News titled ‘Chirima High pupils up in arms against school head’, some ‘A’ level children have been forced to write reports as they are suspected of leaking the story.
The story, which revealed allegations of mismanagement and abuse of school funds by Chirima High School head, Henry Mugwira, has opened floodgates of more complaints against him.
It has now been learnt that there is now a big witch hunt targeting teachers and pupils who are suspected to have leaked details to TellZim News.
Sources said dozens of form six pupils have been asked to write reports on the matter and there are teachers too who have also drawn Mugwira’s ire.
“Acting on the headmaster’s instructions, the deputy headmaster and the senior master asked most ‘A’ level pupils to write reports and name those who leaked the information to the media.
“There is widespread fear among pupils because they could be expelled from school for an offence they did not commit,” said the source.
Meanwhile, another parent has since came forward claiming that he was forced to transfer US$60 to Mugwira’s EcoCash wallet after his child lost an ‘A’ level accounts book in 2015.
“We contributed towards the purchase of the book which was quoted at King Jays bookshop at Nyika growth point but the book was never bought. For several times, I called the bookshop to find out if the book was indeed bought but was told it was never bought. I have always doubted that the book could cost that much,” said the parent.
When contacted for comment, Mugwira played hard to get at first, but finally admitted the school had launched an investigation after bare facts were laid before him.
“People are trying to tarnish my name by falsehoods. There is a teacher I suspect is spreading these falsehoods so that he can take over the job perhaps.  Investigations are underway to get to the bottom of the matter,” said Mugwira.
Masvingo Provincial Education Director (PED) Zedius Chitiga was not available to comment as he was said to be out of town.local

Chipinge tourism: Advice for ZTA

Rachel Danda and Marvelous Sengwe of Chiredzi ZTA office

Stephen Ephraem

Advancement in the digital era has seen the birth of social media platforms that have, however, been characterised by both curses and blessings.
Verbal face-to-face interaction has been reduced as even family members in the same room sit glued to their communication gadgets when they would otherwise be talking to one another.
On the bright side, people can now interact with relatives and friends who are now reachable in real time regardless of the length of the distance between them. Even business entities have also seen the importance of using social media platforms for marketing purposes.
That’s the same case with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), a government arm responsible for marketing tourism in the country.
ZTA’s wide presence on Facebook and Twitter has seen the birth of hashtags like #VisitZimbabwe and #WowZimbabwe.
Many ZTA regional offices have active Facebook pages where the responsible branch does marketing work for localised events as well as for tourism products and packages. The move is timely and well-calculated.
Under the management of Marvelous Sengwe, the ZTA Lowveld branch has its own Facebook page aptly named ‘South East Lowveld Region – Home of The Famous Sandstone Cliffs.’
Through this page, Chiredzi tourism activities are now on the radar. The page has attracted some notable names including stand-up comedians Doc Vikela and The Comic Pastor, with their recent visit to Gonarezhou National Park being well-publicised.
A friendly message for ZTA
In contrast, Chiredzi district’s sibling, Chipinge is not on the radar. Chipinge might not have a national park and as many conservancies as Chiredzi, but for whatever it has on offer to be well-known, it all depends on what ZTA does.
Upper Chipinge’s climatic conditions have enabled the area to have a natural forest in the name of Chirinda Forest in Chipinge East. The jungle is home to The Big Tree of Chirinda Forest.
The Big Tree is the largest Red Mahogany in Southern Africa and the second largest tree in Africa. It is a tourism package in its own right. Unfortunately, The Big Tree remains in the shadows of others tourism packages.
Chipinge’s northern landscapes of Chibasane Waterfalls in Ngaone communal lands are a pride to the region. With one of the four waterfalls reaching a height of 150m, there is no doubt that those ornaments along Changazi River are a unique package.
Rupise Hot Spring on the outskirts of Chipinge Safari Area at Chipangayi is a unique natural feature with huge potential to put Chipinge on the map. The hot spring shall, however, remain in the shadows of Nyanyadzi Hot Springs for as long as ZTA overlooks it in social media campaigns.
In cultural tourism, Chipinge has two galas, MaChangana Festival held in Mahenye and Ndau Festival of the Arts held in Chikore. Both galas take place in September of every year and they usually take place on the same day.
It seems as MaChangana and Ndau Festival of the Arts are competing for supremacy in the eastern district. Whether it is purely coincidental that the two galas hold their commemorations on the same day or not is not the issue. The real issue here is the fact that such kind of competition is not at all healthy for cultural tourism.
There is no reason why tourists should be made to choose between the two events when they can be made to attend both.
ZTA, please engage the organisers and help them understand the importance of complementing each other rather than to be seen as antagonising one another. Cultural tourists need to attend both festivals and this is only possible if the galas are held on different dates.
Chipinge has the potential to become a tourism hub. What lacks, unfortunately, is a sustained and regular marketing campaign for all the available tourism packages.
ZTA Lowveld, Chipinge pins all its hopes on you.local

Of the Bulawayo bombing

My apologies ladies and gentlemen; I missed the deadline last week. The paper went to bed when I was still busy submitting my papers at the Nomination Court and when I submitted my article it was too late. I received several calls from my avid readers expressing their disgruntlement over the missing column; I am truly sorry.
I had successfully filed my papers at the Nomination Court, however, I had to withdraw my candidature after some fellow comrades with sound minds as mine approached me and encouraged me to withdraw so that we can rally behind one of the candidates.
As you all know Mapombi Adonha has people at heart therefore, I opted to sacrifice my personal interests by withdrawing my candidature so that we can fight our biggest enemy from one corner.
By the way, I heard there was an explosion at the White City Stadium in Bulawayo over the weekend where quite a number of Zanu PF members were injured, while two others later died at hospital from the injuries sustained during the explosion.
May their souls rest in peace. Mapombi condemns with all possible strongest terms the violence that occurred at White City Stadium – hatidi mharapatsetsetse dzakadaro.
But munongoti zvenyu Mapombi anotaurisa but sometime we have to be honest with each other – before the junta joined politics hatina kumboona mashura akadaro isu. I’m not suggesting anything here but ndiri kungoti dai makarega junta riri kumaBarrack vanoita politics vachiita havo manje izvi zvokuita mix junta and politics honai manje zvimbambaira zvava kungodhuuka pese pese.
I know many people are already pointing fingers to our dear uncle Bob but Mapombi totally disagree; it’s an inside job iri haambosiri Mugabe uyu. I think the Saturday explosion was actually an indication that there are a lot of disgruntled members in Zanu PF and they are working tirelessly to wipe away the so called new dispensation.
But those who care to remember Mapombi once urged our President ED that he will not rule for long if he wants to solely rely on intelligence reports from the military intelligence only. It’s high time ED seriously considers the CIO and police because these security breaches show that junta riri kurara pabasa.
Not so long ago in Gweru we saw Mavhusa achienda pastage kuda kutotorwa selfie with the President while the security watched.  ED had to shove away Mavhusa before the security intervened. With this kind of security naMwari kudai ndinokupikirai mukaita zvekutamba kuelection hatisvike tinenge taenda kuheroes  Acre chete. Namai kudai.
But people here at Chitima Market are raising a lot of questions and most of them would need our VP Chiwenga to answer. It’s unfortunate that Mapombi does not have a smart phone and as a result did not manage to watch the video of the explosion doing the rounds on social media so that I could give my personal opinion, but vanhu vari kungoti Chiwenga akanyumwa zvechokwadi because his movement before the explosion yanga yakapenga  kkkkkkkkkkk zvamuri mugofamba muchitaura zvandisina kutaura.
I know people are good at spin-doctoring my statements – I said hanzi VP vakanyumwa chete and nothing more. Those who want to suggest otherwise please, please musapinza zita rangu mukati because I explained myself clearly.  After all I said ndozviri kutaura vanhu.
And of course the voice of the people is the voice of God. But I am always a gentleman handivanzi ini. I have seen so many elections but this time around ndinoona sekuti Zanu PF is clueless – this is not the Zanu PF we know isu zvedu vamwe. ED wakanyanya kutonhora uyu; Mapombi is very sure that our President as someone who has vast experience mukudyiwa election after successive defeats by Blessing Chebundo kuKwekwe uko before an animal-infested constituency, Chirumhanzu-Zibagwe was created for him, knows exactly what awaits him come July 30.
This is not because people love Chamisa but simply because people want change. I mean genuine change not zvatakaona last year in November. People want a genuine new era and new dispensation not vanongoimba Zimbabwe is open for business without really producing any tangible results.
Mind you even uncle Bob was good at sweet-talking the electorate; in fact he was more articulate and charming than vana ED vanoita senge vaparidzi vekuZion yetambo ava. ZimAsset had all the best policies but implementation dololo.
Kkkkkkkk but vana ED vanogumirwawo futi, kusvika pakungonyora a policy document risina kana zita zvaro kkkkkkk kukundwa even with Muzvare Thokozani who came up with BEST policy document even though her policies might not the best.
MDC Alliance also came up with their SMART document as well as Dr Nkosana Moyo but reZanu PF handimbozivi kuti rinonzi kudii kana paine vanoziva ndibatsireiwo shuwa.
I managed to get a copy of its manifesto and I saw some pictures of spaghetti roads which they labeled modern roads  ndikabva ndaseka zvangu kusvika ndonzwa mbabvu because these are the kind of roads Chamisa often refers to as spaghetti roads – it is just a matter of semantics my comrades in Zanu PF, so why criticizing the young man?
Anyway, it’s almost lunch time guys let me go ndindokanga zvangu maputi angu for lunch. But before I go, let me hint that we might experience serious intimidation during the run-up to the July 30 elections. That feeling is growing in me especially after the Bulawayo grenade bombing.
By the way, is Mphoko in Bulawayo? I just pray that people will not point fingers on him as the one behind the bombing – I know the guy very well and we have worked together so closely kuG40 uku and I can assure you that he is not the kind of politician to do such a heinous act. Not Mphoko. Of course you can suspect Uncle Bob because he is shrewd but Mphoko I say no, a big no. Mboko imboko!

Chipinge to host World Refugee Day commemorations

Petronella Kagonye

Stephen Ephraem

Chipinge – The World Refugee Day commemorations will this year be hosted by the Tongogara Refugee Camp on July 5, 2018 under the theme, “Becoming Neighbours”.
The commemorations shall be graced by the minister of Labour and Social Welfare, Petronella Kagonye.
Tongogara Refugee Camp administrator, Johannes Mhlanga, said the 2018 commemorations are co-hosted by the government of Zimbabwe and United Nation High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).
“Tongogara Refugee Camp has been operational since the early 1980s when political instability in neighbouring Mozambique caused people to flee the country. Zimbabwe hosted the Mozambique nationals at Tongagara and Chambuta Refugee Camps.
“Chambuta Refugee Camp in Chiredzi has been transformed into a vocational centre leaving Tongogara solo in its role of hosting displaced and asylum seekers in the country. But Tongogara is now hosting refugees and asylum seekers from all over Africa and beyond,” said Mhlanga.
Tongogara is now home to refugees from Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Somalia, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Eritrea, Mali, Libya, Sudan Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana and South Africa.
As of September 2015, Zimbabwe officially hosted 10 089 asylum seekers, refugees and their dependants. DRC constitute 80 percent of the refugees while Rwanda 9 percent, Burundi 8 percent and the remaining 3 percent is made up of the other nationals.
UNHCR and the government of Zimbabwe oversee the welfare of those in refugee camps with help of Non-Governmental Organisations like Christian Care and Goal Zimbabwe.local

Red Cross commissions Dakate Bridge

Vehicles cross the newly-built Dakate Bridge soon after it was officially opened

Stephen Ephraem

CHIPINGE – The Zimbabwe Red Cross Society recently commissioned Dakate Bridge which was constructed in partnership with government and local authorities.
The bridge, situated in Chibuwe communal lands of Chipinge West, has brought relief to local traders especially livestock buyers.
Built to the tune of US$69 000, the 100-metre-long bridge was officially opened by the Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs, Monica Mutsvangwa on May 12 this year.
Livestock, hardware and clothing traders told iTellNews they were grateful to the partnership between government and Red Cross which enabled the construction of the bridge.
Gideon Chiororo, who hails from Chibuwe but owns some butcheries and an entertainment joint at Checheche growth point said the bridge was helping to lower costs of doing business.
“The bridge is lowering my travel costs and has reduced the time I used to spend when buying livestock here.
“The area is now accessible even in bad weather, something that we had never imagined before. It is indeed a relief to me and most business people,” said Chiororo.
Cecilia Nkomo, who owns a fast food outlet in Chipinge town, is another businessperson who frequents Chibuwe area.
“Dakate Bridge made my business easy as a female businessperson. We used to be cut off when the river got flooded. But it’s now all history,” said Nkomo.
Councilor for Chipinge rural Ward 20, Charles Mugidho said he was happy that there was a notable increase in traffic using the route.
The Zimbabwe Red Cross Society constructed Dakate Bridge in partnership with Chipinge Rural District Council (RDC), District Development Fund (DDF), Department of Public Works, Ministry of Roads and the Ministry of Defence.
The relief organisation’s president; Edson Mlambo, secretary general; Maxwell Phiri and ambassador; Alick Macheso graced the official opening of the bridge.local

Battle for Chiredzi district hots up

…17 parliamentary candidates emerge
…3 female candidates hope to defy odds

Beatific Gumbwanda

CHIREDZI – The parliamentary race for the Chiredzi district has become tighter after a total of 17 candidates emerged with three females hoping to navigate around the male dominated political field.
A total of five independent candidates are also hoping to break down the popular belief that dominates the political discourse of association by political parties.
Chiredzi West has seen eight candidates coming forward while Chiredzi South has four, Chiredzi North has three and less competition is in Chiredzi East where only two candidates from MDC Alliance and Zanu PF will battle it out.
The MDC Alliance failed to field a candidate in Chiredzi North where Zanu PF’s Roy Bhila is going to compete against novices Zimbabwe Partnership for Prosperity (ZIPP) Faith Machiva and National Patriotic Front (NPF) Joseph Chiturumani.
Zanu PF’s Bhila, farmer and businessman, is poised to win resoundingly in Chiredzi North, where more than 42 000 people are registered as voters.
Chiturumani, who is one of the executive members of the Cotton Producers and Marketers Association of Zimbabwe, might be able to gun few votes using his interaction with cotton farmers in the region but will be heavily defeated by Bhila.
In Chiredzi East, former CIO agent and incumbent Zanu PF Member of Parliament, Denford Masiya needs to pull his socks up as the ticket he is holding might facilitate his downfall against MDC Alliance’s Sure Makuni.
Makuni lost to Masiya with a slim margin during the controversial 2013 harmonised elections, where many MDC-T candidates cried foul play from Zanu PF.
Masiya survived many political homicides as he was once aligned to the much popular ‘Gamatox’ led by Joyce Mujuru which led him to be given a two year suspension from Zanu PF.
In Chiredzi South, where Brigadier General (rtd) Kallisto Gwanetsa has been doing a tremendous work and survived the chaotic Zanu PF primaries, more needs to be done as the MDC Alliance’s Patrick Tsumele can pull a shocker owing to the figures they got in the 2013 elections as MDC-T then.
Gwanetsa also survived many political homicides as he was once involved in the G40 and Gamatox scandals and it remains unclear whether his five year suspension from Zanu PF was lifted.
MDC-T led by Thokozani Khupe also fielded a little known Sithembinkosi Shumba to battle it out with Tsumele and Gwanetsa. Little known Chinhavi Jephias also filed his nomination papers to stand as an independent candidate.
Chiredzi West is the group of death for the whole district. Eight candidates have come forward to battle it out in the July 30 polls. Chiredzi West was the most affected by the Zanu PF primaries leading the incumbent legislator Darlington Chiwa to pull out and later filed as an independent.
Farai Musikavanhu who will stand as Zanu PF candidate has a mammoth task ahead of him as Chiwa is giving him sleepless nights due to his independent candidature which is likely to split more Zanu PF votes.
Chiwa, poses a serious threat to Zanu PF and is more popular with the electorate than Musikavanhu who is accused of rigging his way through the Zanu PF primaries.
The odds in Chiredzi West favour MDC Alliance’s Stanley Temba who will be looking to capitalise on the split Zanu PF vote but another independent candidate poses a serious threat to both MDC Alliance and Zanu PF.
The United Kingdom based businessman John Manganye who was denied chance to contest in MDC-T primaries bounced back as an independent candidate and will be rallying behind Nelson Chamisa’s candidature.
Manganye is one of the major financiers of MDC-T and hosts many party members who visits the UK. Manganye is heavily oiled and is likely to win the seat as many from South Africa and UK will be financing his campaign as he vows to be representing disgruntled MDC-T supporters.
Mnaganye has a vision of linking Chiredzi West with UK’s Leads town for developmental projects.
Samson Makonese, husband to Veronica Makonese, former Masvingo provincial chairwoman, will stand for Chiredzi West on NPF ticket. Makonese, during Mugabe’s tenure was more silent in politics and was bitter on how his wife was expelled from her post and they were Grace Mugabe’s right hand people in Masvingo province.
Little known Bhebhe Livison will also stand as an independent candidate while popular Majekwane Fungisai will be rallying behind ZIPP ticket.
Any candidate can win the Chiredzi West seat because of the stiff competition and nature of candidates.
Zanu PF is likely to lose more councillors in Chiredzi town seats with MDC-T’s  Gibson Hwende taking over ward one against Zanu PF’s Zinaka Siyapela. In ward 2, Ngwenya Obert (Zanu PF) is having difficult times with MDC Alliances Denford Chikanyau and Emmanuel Mazuru. Juwela Turai will stand on ZIPP ticket while Willard Simango will stand as an independent.
In ward 3, Tarusenga Makamba is having another tough time with his former Zanu PF ally, Thager Cader who has filed as an independent but will all likely to be dwarfed by MDC-Alliance’s provincial youth leader Philip Chingini. Makumire Ropafadzo, Chirove Josephine and Mapurisa Charles will stand as independent candidates with Ndarowa Solomon racing as a vendors select.
In ward 4 Liberty Macharaga of Zanu PF will battle it out with Mupapuri Solomon (MDC-Alliance) and Hwerengwe Hardlife for ZIPP. In ward 5, Blessings Mazinyani of Zanu PF will race with Wadzi Tinofirei of MDC-Alliance and Manjeru Elious who is independent.
In ward 6, Zanu PF’s Mombe Consten is having tough times with MDC’s Musingashani Musingashani while in ward 7Chikonye Rodgers of MDC-Alliance will fight with Zanu PF’s Mandava Tinei Mandava.
In ward 8, MDC -Ts Makuvise Simon will battle with Zanu PF’s Nzombe Josphat and Rungware Tsungirirai of MDC Alliance. Chigidi Gift and Sikwila Charlse Lovemore will stand as independents.polictics

Stephen Ephraem

Music producer Largest Billion Coles, real name Thomas Bhemba Mavasa, is making waves in South Africa through his impressive talent.
Mavasa was born 30 years ago in Makhosiya under Chief Chilonga in Chiredzi.
His studio is managed by Tawanda Macheke and he has produced more than 40 Mzansi-based hip-hop and dancehall artistes from Zimbabwe and Mozambique. He works with Shadreck “Xifu” Makondo and Flexible Lihinga in his productions.
Speaking to TellZim News from his GaRankuwa base in Pretoria, Mavasa said he was satisfied with the talent that Zimbabwe artistes have.
“I have produced talented artistes from home especially lady singers and I am confident their future in the music industry is bright,” he said.
He appealed to promoters in Gauteng province to consider upcoming artistes when organising shows.
“Promoters are many but they sometimes have their own favourite artistes. I appeal to them to consider a new artistes,” Mavasa said.
He also urged upcoming musicians to take their work seriously.
“Sometimes, promoters get frustrated by how some of the artistes conduct their business. Musicians should create good images in order to acquire good air play on radio stations,” he said.

Grace Mugabe attack style lands Mwenezi woman in trouble

Cephas Shava

MWENEZI – Just like former first lady Grace Mugabe attacked the South African model Gabriella Engels with an electric cable, a copy-cat Mwenezi woman had no immunity and was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment after leaving a seven year old step daughter nursing injuries from an electric cable assault.
Linnette Dovi (25) of Zvihwa village 2 under Chief Negari pleaded guilty to two counts of physical abuse when she appeared before magistrate Honest Musiiwa.
For the two counts, Dovi was sentenced to 20 months behind bars of which 8 months were conditionally suspended.
The remaining 12 months were set aside on condition that she performs 420 hours of community service at Negari Clinic.
The state case as presented by Angelinah Makonyah was that on two consecutive days, May 21 and 22 this year, Dovi assaulted her step daughter accusing her of coming home from school late and being disrespectful.
Dovi assaulted her step daughter with an electric cable all over her body causing her bodily harm.
After the assault, Dovi threatened the girl not to tell anyone.
The little girl went to school and told the headmaster about the assault and the school filed a police report leading to Dovi’s arrest.
After noticing that the medical report produced in court showed a possibility of permanent injuries and a danger to the life of the minor, magistrate Musiiwa recommended that the Social Welfare probation officer further investigates how Dovi and the minor are residing.crime

Zanu PF supporters up for stealing 60 litres diesel

Berita Chikwama

Precila Takabvirakare

Three Zanu PF supporters, who are employees of Gutu Central legislator Berita Chikwama, were last week arraigned before Gutu magistrate Victor Muhammad facing theft charges after they stormed Maphios Mlambo’s home and took off with 60 litres of diesel, car jack and wheel spanner.
Admire Masiya (37), Kudakwashe Mundezha (28) and Zvaoma Musha (26) were charged for contravening with Section 113(1) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9:23.
They were remanded out of custody to July 4 for continuation of trial.
The state’s case as presented by Samuel Magobeya was that on May 17 this year, Mlambo’s driver, Mathias Mazuva, was on his way from Bhasera Business Centre driving Mlambo’s lorry.
Upon reaching 200 metres from Mlambo’s homestead, Mazuva stopped to assist Levison Marwizi who was attending to a breakdown on his vehicle.
Then immediately Masiya arrived driving Chikwama’s car full of Zanu PF supporters wielding iron rods who then disembarked from the vehicle and charged towards Mazuva.
Sensing danger, Mazuva drove off home and hide himself in a nearby bush. Masiya and company then followed Mazuva to Mlambo’s home and they took three containers that had 60 litres of diesel, wheel spanner and a car jack before driving off.
Mazuva then came from hiding and immediately filed a police report leading to the trio’s arrest.politics
