CHIPINGE – A woman from Village P of Bangira area under Chief Musikavanhu in Ward 17 and her nephew were recently arrested for allegedly killing their newly-born baby whom they conceived through an illicit sexual affair.
After killing the baby, the duo allegedly buried it in a garden on the banks of Musirizwi River.
Majika Zamukudzi (21) got pregnant through an extra-marital affair with her husband’s nephew, Edison Ndangana (24), in the absence of her own husband who works in South Africa.
Soon after giving birth, she connived with the baby girl’s father and allegedly killed her by pressing her fingers into her suture, causing the baby to nosebleed.
They then allegedly wrapped the body in a taxi bag and hid it in a garden in the Musirizwi River before Ndangana buried it in the woods.
Suspicion was raised when Ndangana’s wife found Zamukudzi lying in her room bleeding profusely.
When asked what had happened, she claimed she had had a miscarriage but could not reveal where the dead foetus was.
A few days later, the matter was reported at Chikore Police Station, leading to a confession from the suspects and the subsequent retrieval of the baby’s decomposing body which was taken to Chikore Mission Hospital for a post-mortem.local

ZVISHAVANE – Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) here are planning to demonstrate against Mimosa Mine which they accuse of giving all tenders to people and companies from Harare while marginalising local capacity, TellZim News can reveal.

They claim local businesses are being overlooked by mine bosses whom they accuse of exploiting local resources to enrich those in Harare.

They also alleged that the giant platinum miner is giving all tenders to companies that are being formed by its former employees who are based in Harare.

Midlands SMEs secretary general, Bigboy Murenga said as a result of that, local businesses were not growing even though it was their environment being exploited.

“Local companies cannot grow because Mimosa is supporting companies from outside this area while ignoring local companies that can do similar work. We are surprised the company does not want to support local SMEs,” said Murenga.

He said various players in the province’s SMEs sector had met and planned to stage a demonstration against the company to protest what they regard a grossly an unfair practice.

“People are planning to march to Mimosa premises but I personally have worked to find a more amicable way of engaging the company. We have since secured an appointment with the director of community relations so that the issue is discussed peacefully,” Murenga said.

Another small business owner said Mimosa could no longer be allowed to do what he claimed the company had always been doing.

“They are breaching the country’s SMEs policy which demands that 25 percent of procurement requirements must benefit local SMEs. We can no longer accept that. Why is everything about Harare when it is our own resources being mined?” said the business woman.

Others said Mimosa’s products and services requirements such as security, cleaning, construction, engineering, and printing were all benefitting non-local companies.

“Mimosa is buying meat from Koala Abattoirs and eggs from Irvine’s yet we have local farmers who produce those goods and would rise from poverty if the company buys from them,” said another business person.

Mimosa director of community relations, Nikita Chikombero refused to comment, saying he was not aware of the grievances.

“I will have to talk to my superiors in Harare first. I really don’t know anything about that,” said Chikombero.

He could also not be drawn into commenting on whether or not there was indeed some substance in the accusations that are being been raised by local SMEs.business

ZRP Zvishavane launches Foot Patrol Unit

Chief Supt Ncube

ZVISHAVANE – Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer commanding Zvishavane-Mberengwa policing district, Chief Superintendent Edward Ncube has challenged police officers to be good at their work, saying society looked up to them for safety and security.
Speaking during the launch of a new Foot Patrol Unit at Mandava Bus Terminus recently, Ncube said police officers should do their duties in a way that inspires confidence in the people they serve.
“Ladies and gentleman, patrolling and doing beats is part of everyday police work. We should not be ashamed of our work. All over the world, police officers do beats and they patrol communities to ensure better observation and greater interaction with the people.
“When taking the oath on appointment, one swears to be faithful and to bear true allegiance to Zimbabwe and observe the laws of Zimbabwe. Therefore, a member who leaves his or her point of duty without permission or reasonable excuse is wayward. He or she is neither faithful, loyal, dependable nor trustworthy,” said Ncube.
Members of the police were warned against selecting duties since the very nature of police work demands a lot of discipline, making it impossible for one to be selective.
Ncube said some members of the police despise patrols, considering them to be menial work for the less educated and unsophisticated.
“I get worried when police officers desert their responsibilities when they are supposed to be out protecting the people and fighting crime in communities,” said Ncube, urging members of the public to cooperate with the police for a safer society.
He also encouraged the media to promote accountability by exposing police officers who spend their time doing what is not expected of them.local

Critical shortage of magistrates in Manicaland

Lloyd Shunje

MUTARE – The Minister of State for Minicaland Provincial Affairs, Monica Mutsvangwa has pleaded with government to deploy more magistrates in the province to ensure quicker justice delivery to the people.
Speaking at the official opening of a High Court building in Mutare, Mutsvangwa told Vice President Constantine Chiwenga, who was the guest of honour in his capacity as Acting President, and Chief Justice Luke Malaba that there was a serious backlog at the magistrates’ court.
“Allow me to register the province’s concern over shortage of magistrates. I am told there are only three magistrates at the Mutare Magistrates’ Court including the provincial magistrate who is also involved in administrative work.
“The three court houses in Nyanga, Mutasa and Murambinda have two court rooms each but only one magistrate, leaving the other court room idle, something we do not wish to happen as the majority of the cases of our people are heard at these courts,” said Mutsvangwa.
In response, Chiwenga acknowledged the problems, saying government was aware and will work to make the issue urgent.
“Yes I am aware that there are challenges of staffing which occasionally receives assistance from Harare. I want the Ministry of Justice, in conjunction with the Ministry of Finance and the Judicial Service Commission to work towards solving this matter,” said Chiwenga.
The newly-opened High Court, which was formally a cinema house, becomes the fourth permanent High Court in the country after those in Harare, Bulawayo and Masvingo.local

Be warned, VP Chiwenga is not bleaching

Kkkkkkk so our VP Chiwenga does not bleach at all? I heard his ever lightening skin is as a result of the disease he suffers since Operation Restore Legacy last year. Mapombi will call this disease which is afflicting our good VP ‘Chimugabe’ because I am sure it is as a result of the operation which led to ouster of former president, Uncle Bob.
It is unfortunate that the disease is either contagious or sexually-transmitted because our short-tempered-like VP revealed that his wife Mary also suffers the same ‘Chimugabe’ disease which result in her skin lightening as well.  Hopefully, our good VP and wife will not be makaradhi.
On a more serious not heads must roll; the people who write speeches for VP Chiwenga must be fired – how can he or she chooses words that are too difficult for the VP to pronounce?  Exercaba-a-at…exerca-a-a-a…kkkkk God forbid!
Anyway, chakaona hama hachisekwi Mapombi would like to wish our good VP Chiwenga a quick recovery from this ‘Chimugabe’ disease which lightens his skin to an extent yekuti people think he bleaches. Ndikunzwei futi muchiti VP vanoita bleach skin; vari kurwara.
Let me confess something guys – rwendo runo ED ari patight. Mapombi can safely tell you that our President may lose general elections if they are to be free and fair. It might be too early to suggest that but developments in Zanu PF at the moment are too revealing.
To start with, the manifesto was not inspiring at all. ZimAsset was far much better if I am to be blunt. Iyi yana ED ndakaishaya kuti iri kuda kumborevei manifesto yacho – the majority of issues are questionable and doubtful if they will even attempt to fulfill some of the promises. They promised 1,5million houses for the next five years. Kkkkkk that means they will build at least over 820 houses a day kkkkk kutiita zvituta chaizvo kutinyepera zviri pachena kudai.
They also want to be elected back in power so that they can review down tollgate fees kkkkkk vanhu ava so – they are already in power but they cannot instruct Zinara to reduce tollgate fees hanzi tangai matipa five year mandate kkkkkkk they are just clueless.  If they can wait for election to do a simple thing like reducing tollgate fees what about building over 800 houses a day? They will need another term in 2023 to do that.
Believe it or not, Zanu PF was much better with the scattyered G40 guys. Varume vaya vaitoziva zvavaiita than Lacoste iyi. Rugeje even failed to run primary elections, and Mapombi is hearing that there are allegations that he demanded bribe from Keith Guzha kkkkkk apa Mutsvangwa described him as a political novice.
Zanu PF is heading for disaster; serious disaster. There only way out is to rig this forthcoming election. Feya feya ED achadyiwa worse than zvaaitiwa naBlessing Chebundo kuKwekwe uko. Mr President lacks charisma and his speeches are boring – anorarisa chaiko.
How can a whole President promise to reduce tollgate fees if he is voted for another term? Kkkkk ko ingodzisaika handiti ndimi mune power here. Mapombi liked uncle Bob on one thing; his policies were populist in nature but zvaitoitiwa. Vanhu vakabvisirwa zvikwereti zvemvura maMucheke stadium umu vana Mapombi takatarisa manje izvi zvana ED zvekuda kumirira kupinda kuti vadzikise tollgate fees hahahaha. Zvimwe muchiti munotamba vakomana.
Mapombi can tell you that Nelson Chamisa will trounce Zanu PF if everything is done freely and fairly, which I doubt though because junta rakatosvinurira maziso. People will vote for Cghamisa, not because they like him but because they don’t like ED. We are likely going to witness more protest votes and the biggest beneficiary will be Nelson Chamisa and his Alliance guys.
Zanu PF has showed us that they can resort to force and manipulation – we have seen the way they have treated nurses and what they want to do to our teachers. It’s there for everyone to see and very few can trust them to rule this country for another five years. Very few. The best they can do is to rig the election otherwise feya feya havapindi. Namai kudai ndotokupikirai.
Anyway, it’s almost lunch time guys let me go ndindokanga hangu maputi angu for lunch. But before I go I heard Saviour kasukuwere is coming back to lead NPF. Yah apa vazowana simbi yebasa manje, I like Kasukuwere because he is kind of a thug and he can bulldoze pazvinenge zvakaoma. He is totally different from Rugeje. May someone please tell Professor Moyo and Patrick Zhuwao to shut their mouth? We do not want to hear any word from them. Whether Kasukuwere is being used by Zanu PF or not let him come and lead NPF – what we want is someone who is aggressive, who can divide Zanu PF’s vote. Kkkkkkk I also heard that Mphoko will be vice president ikoko hahahaha. Mboko imboko!

Bota royal families finally agree on new chief

Chief Nemauzhe

…Nyakunhuwa chieftainship still plagued by conflict

Brigton Chiseva

ZAKA – Preparations for the appointment and installations of substantive Chief Bota are being done to avoid a leadership vacuum following the expiry of the permissible period that an area can stay with an acting chief, TellZim News has learnt.
The case is, however, different with the Nyakunhuwa throne which is still being claimed by many royal families with no indication of a possible compromise any time soon.
TellZim News learnt that the Bota royal families had agreed that it was the turn of the Bwazvo family to take the throne.
Zaka District Administrator (DA) Ndeya Nyede confirmed the development saying the long-running feud on who should take over from the late Chiyo Mugabe who died in 2016 had finally been solved and papers will soon be send the provincial chiefs’ council.
“The families have agreed that the chieftaincy will go to the Bwazvo family and we will forward our deliberations to the provincial chiefs’ council for approval. If everything gets approved, we would then move on to the next stage,” said Nyede.
However, the situation is different in Nyakunhuwa, where the DA and the chief’s council, chaired by Chief Nemauzhe of Chivi, held a fruitless meeting with the Nyakunhuwa clansmen.
Disagreements were centred on which family should take the chieftainship which was left with no leaders after the death of Jerera Wafawanaka Mashavave in a car accident in 2015.
“We met with the families but we have not resolved anything so far. We have, however, managed to pick up some points which we are going to use in our next meeting. They were disowning each other but it is common when dealing with matters of chieftainships,” said Nyede.
Recently, the Mutonhori family which, if papers from the National Archives seen by TellZim News are anything to go by, has never sat on the throne, petitioned the DA over the overstaying of Courage Jerera, who is the acting chief.
The papers indicate the Mashavave family sat on the throne three times, the Mutsvangwa family held it twice while the Murembwa and Mututuvari families took it once each.local

Media reforms in election season spotlighted

…as Masvingo celebrates World Press Freedom Day

Tiyani Hahlani

MASVINGO – The Media Institute of Southern Africa (Misa Zimbabwe), Masvingo chapter last Saturday organised a gathering of media practitioners and other stakeholders at Charles Austin Theatre to celebrate the 2018 World Press Freedom Day.
Celebrations this year were held under the theme, ‘Keeping Power in Check: Media, Justice and the Rule of Law’.
Among many other objectives, the event was meant to remind government the need for media reforms ahead of this year’s general elections in line with the theme ‘Media Reforms Now: Free and Accountable Media Key to Credible Elections’.
Speaking at the gathering, Masvingo Urban Ward 4 councillor, attacked the continued existence of such undemocratic pieces of legislation as the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (AIPPA), Official Secrets Act (OSA) and Broadcasting Services Act (BSA) in the country’s statute books.
“As we head towards elections, there must be a visible commitment on the part of government to ensure the safety of journalists, the independence of the public media as well as a secure working environment for journalists.
Kurauone encouraged journalists to always question decisions that are taken by council and to request for council minutes as a way of improving accountability and access to information.
“I am a councillor and I acknowledge the importance of media in advancing service delivery. I urge journalists to keep asking questions on the decisions we make,” Kurauone said.
He also criticised government for always talking about free, fair and credible elections when there are is no perceivable political will to effect fundamental media reforms.
“As stakeholders, we condemn violations of journalist rights for example the brutalisation of Daily News reporter Tafirenyika Mugove at the hands of riot police in Harare last year and also the arrest of the NewsDay reporter Kenneth Nyangani for writing a true story that former first lady Grace Mugabe had donated second hand under garments in Manicaland,” said Kurauone.
Other people who spoke at the gathering include Misa Masvingo chairperson, Passmore Kuzipa and Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) Press Club chairperson, Leroy Dzenga.
After the solidarity speeches, the event moved to Masvingo Showgrounds were a friendly soccer match was played between local practicing journalists and GZU media students.local

Gutu woman faints after ‘abused’ daughter turns against her at court

Precila Takabvirakare

MPANDAWANA – A Gutu woman recently fainted and went into a coma for about an hour at the Gutu Magistrates’ Court while waiting for a case of assault involving her daughter’s ex-boyfriend to be heard.
People who were at the court had to carry Zvidzai Gonese into one of her relative’s vehicle and transport her to Gutu Rural Hospital for assistance to bring her back to consciousness.
Eyewitnesses said Zvidzai had accompanied her daughter Ruvimbo Gonese who was supposed to attend a case reported against Calvin Munhamo who had allegedly assaulted Ruvimbo and threatened to shoot her.
Sources said the woman fainted after learning that her daughter intended to withdraw all charges and tell the court that they were fake, having been made simply as a result of pressure from her parents.
“She was shocked to learn that her daughter had planned to turn against her and make a fool out of her in court. She was distraught and shaken. Unbeknown to her, Ruvimbo had secretly been communicating with Calvin through a new sim card and they had hatched a plan to set him free,” said a source.
Zvidzai acknowledged in an interview TellZim News that she had been upset to hear that her own daughter had turned against her when all she was trying to do was help her.
“I was surprised after Calvin’s lawyer, Philip Marava told me that Ruvimbo had sent messages to Calvin saying I had forced her to make-up the allegations and that the messages were going to be used as evidence in court. I was really disturbed,” said Zvidzai.local

Gutu magistrate Marecha transferred

Edwin Marecha

Memory Rasa

MPANDAWANA – Gutu Resident Magistrate, Edwin Marecha has been transferred to the Harare Magistrate Court where he is doing traffic court.
He had worked at Gutu Court from February 2015.
Other provincial magistrates that have been moved to Harare are Learnmore Mapiye from Kadoma, Nyasha Lee Vitorini from Mutoko and a Mapfumo from Chitungwiza.
Marecha was replaced by Victor Muhamadi from Masvingo.
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) had transferred magistrates around the country amid reports of heightening corruption within lower courts.
The transfers, that began on May 01, come after Chief Magistrate Mishrod Guvamombe announced in November last year that there were going to be routine transfers of magistrates partly in response to endemic corruption that he said had permeated the bench.
He said some of the magistrates were going to being transferred for their bad records and suspicion that they were involved in corruption.
Other reasons for transfers were said to be the need for experienced and seasoned magistrates in Harare considering the nature of cases and swelling backlog.
Four provincial magistrates replaced juniors at the Harare Criminal Court while many junior magistrates were moved out of Harare.local
