Masvingo mayor, his deputy lose primaries

City of Masvingo mayor, Hubert Fidze

TellZim Reporter

City of Masvingo mayor, Hubert Fidze and his deputy, James Chiwara are the only two of MDC-T’s six sitting councillors in Masvingo Urban who will not be contesting in the general elections after they lost to rivals in primaries held at the party’s provincial headquarters in Rodene on Wednesday, May 23.
Fidze, who is the current councillor for Ward 6, lost to David Chimombe by 146 votes to 55, while Chiwara of Ward 3, gave way to Tarusenga Vhembo by way of ‘consensus’.
When contacted for comment, Fidze criticised the way the elections were held, saying many people were bussed to vote against him.
“It was not a fair process because people were bussed in. The venue of the election was also not friendly; it’s far away from the ward so some of my supporters could not come and vote,” said Fidze.
MDC-T Masvingo district chairperson, Muranganwa Chanyau, however, defended the conduct of the elections, saying everything was done smoothly.
“Elections were held for some wards while consensus was used to determine candidates for the other wards. We are happy with the process,” said Chanyau.
Meanwhile, the party’s parliamentary candidate will be Takanayi Mureyi after his strongest rival, Tongai Matutu was rejected reportedly on the basis that he had not yet spent the mandatory five years with the party.
Until recently, Matutu, had been a member of the Tendai Biti-led People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Mureyi’s other rival, Boniface Mazarire was kicked out of the race on the basis of ‘seniority’.
The final list of MDC-T Masvingo Urban council candidates was given as follows.
Ward 1 Selina Maridza, Ward 2 Collen Maboke, Ward 3 Vhembo, Ward 4 Godfrey Kurauone, Ward 5 Daniel Mberikunashe, Ward 6 Chimombe, Ward 7 Richard Musekiwa, Ward 8 Martin Mureri, Ward 9 Babylon Beta, Ward 10 Margert Chakabuda.local

Zanu PF, police top 2017 rights violators list

HARARE – As the country celebrates five years into its new constitution, the bill of rights has been violated left, right and centre with the ruling Zanu PF party and the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) being fingered as the chief culprits.
The 2017 State of Human Rights Report by the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum castigates the violations of human rights by key institutions.
The reports also castigates the military for the November 15, 2017 coup which is said to have trashed the country’s constitution.
“For 2017, quantitatively, Zanu PF and the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) were the main perpetrators of human rights violations. In 2017 only, ZRP were the lead perpetrator in illegally evicting 933 families.
“The police were the easy tool for the state to deal with social unrest as they continued to use heavy-handed tactics to deal with vendors and silence dissenting voices,” reads the report.
The report suggests that a total of 5 707 violations related to the demand of voter registration slips was perpetrated by the ruling Zanu PF sympathisers.
A total of 48 000 cases of rights violations against school children when they were bused to attend Zanu PF rallies.
“Zimbabwe went through very dramatic experiences in 2017. Political temperatures within the ruling Zanu PF party reached a boiling point on November 15 when the military overthrew Robert Mugabe’s government.
“Nine days later, Mugabe’s former deputy Emmerson Mnangagwa, was sworn in as the new Zimbabwe’s President. The nine days in which the country was under the control of the military are shrouded in mystery.
“The country’s constitution was completely overthrown as the President was effectively put under house arrest,” reads the report.
Other perpetrators on the list of violators include the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA), traditional leaders, municipal police, Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO), Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) and some school authorities.
The Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum has also launched the ‘Our Police. Anti-Impunity Campaign’ which aims at creating dialogue between the police and members of the public.
The campaign will give members of the public an opportunity to report violations perpetrated by the police in their areas across the country.local

MDC-T candidates pull out of ‘unfair’ primaries in Chipinge

Knowledge Mhlanga

CHIPINGE – Losing candidates who participated in MDC-T primary elections held on Sunday, May 20 at Pfidza Township, Ward 17, Chipinge East, described the process, which saw some candidates pulling out of the race as unfair.
Ward 17 councillor, Fordwell Hlatshwayo, who contested for the parliamentary slot, pulled out of the race together with council candidate Panganai Dibi, claiming that there were several irregularities engineered by rival, Mathius Mlambo.
“We withdrew from the race and it went on without us participating because we noticed several irregularities. For instance, Mlambo bussed people from Ward 12 to come and vote in Ward 17.
“An eight tone truck came and offloaded unfamiliar faces five times and those people took part in the voting process. The rules are that there should be no singing, slogan-chanting and noise within a 300 metre distance from the voting centre, but Mlambo’s supporters brought speakers and microphones and made scenes at the centre.
“We will not accept the results of those primaries since they are not a genuine reflection of the will of the people,” said a bitter Hlatshwayo.
Dibi also told iTell News that there was foul play in the elections, claiming Mlambo connived with another aspiring female council candidate to rig elections through the imposition of candidates.
Out of a total of 345 votes cast in Ward 17, Mlambo got 339 votes, Hlatshwayo got six. In Ward 12, Mlambo got 32 votes while Hlatshwayo did not get even a single vote.
In elections to select council candidates, a total of 322 votes were cast with one Mrs Maga getting
302 while Mafunde and Dibi got 12 and 5 votes respectively.local

MASVINGO – The Zimbawe Karate Union (ZKU) has taken 28 Zimbabwean karate athletes to the two-day Region 5 Karate Championship which kick-starts on Friday, June 01 in Botswana.
The athletes are of different age groups; from children in the 10-11 year age range to the seniors of around 24 years of age. Seven are females and the team also has eight officials who are non-athletes.
The team’s technical director, Gerald Muusha said his team was going for glory and was hoping to bring back many medals.
“I can promise that we will pose a strong challenge to whoever we will meet in Botswana and we will bring back gold medals and raise the Zimbabwean flag high,” said Muusha.
He revealed that the union was facing financial challenges since the corporate world was failing to come in to support them.
This, he said, was forcing athletes to dig into their own shallow pockets to travel to such events. He however thanked AfricaBet which he said was doing a lot to support them.
“Our biggest challenge has always been lack of financial support from the corporate world. Yes, we have AfricaBet which has supported the team over the years but the load is too big for one organisation. Many thanks to AfricaBet and the media for the support,” said Muusha.
The athletes were selected across the country after making it from their respective provinces.sport

Well done MDC-T

But can someone tell me the truth because izvi zvekusweronyeperana hazvina kwazvinotisvitsa as a country. Those who really know me can confidently tell you that I am one of the ladies that always tell the truth; ndinonzi mafirakureva ini.
Mapombi has been suspecting and doubting the law qualification which our good President is said to have acquired from the University of Zambia or somewhere there.  It’s not because Mapombi is jealousy of our President having such qualifications but some of the decisions he make baffles Mapombi big time – they fall far short of the expected wisdom and intelligence of a real lawyer.
From what Mapombi heard from her grandfather, the Whites used to give certificates to Blacks who would have shown passion for a certain profession; for example kana munhu akaratidza idea yekugadzira mota aibva atopiwa kaCertificate keMechanics, vekubika vachipiwawo zvavo zvinoenderana navo. Mapombi suspects the same could have happened to our good president ndobva vangopiwawo ravo certificate probably because then he showed a lot of legal understanding and able to interpret the law. That’s what I think zvangu, and of course many people will dismiss me vachiti ndopenga but mind you vamwe vakaudzwa hondo nemurwere wepfungwa. After all I am not mad but I am in this situation because of Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF – I never thought I would survive by rotten bananas and maputi nekuti kudzidza ndakatodzidzawo chose.
But a whole lawyer creating unconstitutional commissions and boards, and worse crowding them in his office, the office of the president kkkkkkkk haya.  Mapombi heard there is a new organisation which was created in the office of the president to fight corruption Kkkkkkkk seka zvako Mapombi of the unknown totem hehehedaa-aa huri-iii!
Fighting corruption in the office of the president or is it fighting corruption from the office of the president. Ko ZAAC yana Nguni yozoita basa rei nhai Mr President? Is this a confirmation that our ZAAC is indeed a toothless dog which is only used to fight factional battles?
The people of Zimbabwe were expecting that ZAAC would one day question Mpofu; at least questioning kwete kumusunga but Ooops guess what happened? Even the president was convinced that the not so obedient son should be given the Home Affairs ministry so that he could control the police instructing them who to arrest and who not to arrest. Kkkkkk new dispensation iyi inga zvakaoma.
Anyway, zveZanu handingazvigone izvi but I have a word for PC Rugeje; Mapombi is very sure the former military man has learnt from MDC-T how primary elections are conducted.  Or if Rugeje does not want to learn from MDC-T how primary elections are conducted, he should then at least swallow his pride and go to Savior Kasukuwere ambodzidzisiwa one or two things by his feisty predecessor.
Mapombi heard Kasukuwere is now back in the country to become a farmer. Kkkkkk really? I don’t think so, I think this is just the entry point so that akatadza kusungwa ozotanga hake kushiringinya.  Or the guy could have sold big time for him to be easily accommodated by the Lacoste faction. I heard videos of Dr Amai are being leaked since Tyson came back home. We shall see.
Mapombi, however, would like to salute MDC-T for at least holding peaceful primary elections this week. They corrected from their foiled attempt to impose candidates especially in Masvingo. Mapombi is also happy for her brother Godfrey Kurauone, Daniel Mberikunashe and Richard Musekiwa who retained their wards – congrats my councillors! If Mureyi and vana Chanyau kana vasingade kushanda nemi ndezvavo izvo. At least you showed them kuti munodiwa nevanhu.
It’s almost lunch time guys let me go ndindokanga zvangu maputi angu for lunch. By the way, I heard that Kasukuwere might lead NPF in the not so distant future. Kkkkk nhaka tichaonesa zvedu. Mapombi cannot wait to see uncle Bob vakarova regalia at a rally to campaign Zanu PF which he ruined for 37 years. Uncle Bob succeeded in destroying Zanu from within.
But on a more serious note; those who have extra jerseys may you please donate one or two to Mapombi because chando chinobuda nemu rwizi rwunonzi Mucheke umu hachisi kuita. I heard some guys talking hanzi gore rino mapenzi anofa nacho chando ichi and I got really worried as I started to think about my grandpas at Mucheke Old People’s Home and Pioneer Cottages as well as my young sisters and brothers at the Alpha Cottages. May we please spare a thought for them. Let us donate chero mabhachi emubhero iwayo veduwe.
Aah ko munoti akashata here mabhachi aya? Mapombi saw two guys from the black gate varipo vachikotama vachiedza those jackets – I am sure that is why they are usually referred to as guys in cheap suits and dark glasses kkkkkk pamabhero havabve. Kkkkk pamberi nebhero!
But before I go, those from Bulawayo is Cde Mphoko still there? Is he safe? Is it true that he is linked to NPF? Is he still donating chicks and incubators? Ko pension yavo yakazobuda here yavaichemera? Ko mwana wavo doctor uye akazopiwa here salary yake kkkkkkkkkk.
Mboko imboko!mapombi

Accident victim looks for help

Kundai Maganga

Brighton Chiseva

MASHAVA – A local woman whose hands were broken in a road traffic accident in June last year is looking for help from well-wishers so that she can pay medical bills and send her children to school.
Due to the injuries she suffered, Kundai Maganga, who is 35 years of age, is no-longer able to work for her family.
Her hands were broken in an accident involving her scotch cart and a motor vehicle along Mashava – Masvingo Road.
Her husband, Gabriel Dhambukai, also sustained internal injuries and he still suffers from the pain since he could not afford proper medical attention.
“I am appealing to well-wishers who can help me to go for treatment. I have been in plasters since June 2017. The last time I went for a medical review was in December and the X-rays showed the joins were still not in place. I am long overdue for another review but I don’t have money to go back.
“I relied on farming but now I cannot work for my family. I can’t even bath on my own, feed myself so I rely on my daughter for most of the things I want to do. She was supposed to be in form one now but because of fees, she is at home,” said Maganga.
Maganga says she has nine children who include three sets of twins. Her eldest child was supposed to be doing form four and the youngest was born in January.
She said the driver of the car that collided with their scotch cart did not even take responsibility for the accident and has offered nothing. They, however, managed to take him to court and the case is still pending.
Aspiring councillor for Masvingo rural Ward 5, Aleta Makomoke said she was touched by the plight of the family and called upon well-wishers to help.
“More than a thousand dollars are needed. I will do my best and I am calling upon those who can do something to come on board and help,” said Makomeke.health

As Young Voices funding closes

…Gweru stakeholders urged to continue disability advocacy

Tinaani Nyabereka

GWERU – Stakeholders in the Midlands province disability lobby have been urged to scale up their advocacy despite the end of the Young Voices project funding initiative.
Speaking at a project evaluation meeting last week, Young Voice project officer, Juliet Muzondo said as the project funding stream closes, all institutions and stakeholders who have been involved in programmes should continue their work.
“As you are aware, the Young Voices funding from the Embassy of Finland has now come to an end but this should not be the closing down of Young Voices. It’s just the project funding. Here in the Midlands, many stakeholders have been engaged from education officers, district administrator and chiefs to city council and the media.
“We urged them to further utilise the engagements and continue with advocacy work to help educate society on the issues at hand,” said Muzondo.
She bemoaned the discrimination that people with disabilities still face especially in rural areas, saying in terms of information and personal development, they still lagged behind.
“I am glad to say Young Voices in Gweru has also taken disability advocacy to the rural communities such as Chiwundura, Lower Gwelo and surrounding areas. There are however some gaps that still remain because in rural areas, people have less access to information.
“We took the initial steps of engaging the chiefs but we are now able to engage the people directly in their communities. We thank the traditional leadership because it supported the move,” she said.
Muzondo urged the media to help educate society and accommodate people with disability so as to integrate them in all developments since they have rights like anybody else.
The Young Voices initiative, a Leonard Cheshire Disability global initiative, has spearheaded disability advocacy projects across the globe and in Sadc countries.local

Mapeza gets tough

Mapeza (right) with FC Platinum spokesperson Chido Chizondo during the press conference

Exsto Makunzva

ZVISHAVANE – FC Platinum coach, Norman Mapeza challenged players and supporters of football that they should not expect only strikers to score goals, saying it was the responsibility of every player on the field of play.
Speaking to the media during a press conference on Tuesday, Mapeza said any player, especially starting from the midfield, should be hungry for goals.
“I have often heard people saying we don’t have strikers in the country. If we put that burden to the strikers only, then we are removing the other players from the equation. I believe for a team to be compact, everyone from the midfield to the front should contribute,” said Mapeza.
The ‘Pure Platinum Play’ gaffer praised his boys for a splendid performance against Dynamos in which they beat the Harare giants by two goals to nil.
Mapeza said he was humbled by the way his boys played in Harare.
“I am happy with my boys’ for such a performance. It’s not easy to collect maximum points away from home especially against such a big team as Dynamos. We, however, are now focusing on the match against Nichrut on Thursday.
“I have respect for every coach in the premiership. There is no small team in the league. John Nyikadzino (Nichrut coach) has done very well in the league, he has collected 13 points so far which is not bad for a team that is just joining the league. Given that fact, we can underrate Nichrut at our own peril,” said Mapeza.
The FC Platinum coach also said there was no much injury scare in his camp except for Rodwell Chinyengetere who suffered a relatively slight injury during the Dynamos game.
Mapeza, however, said Chinyengetere did light training on Tuesday and will be finally assessed on Wednesday for the Nichrut game.
Mapeza also urged his boys to score as many goals as possible during this first half of the season as he predicted a very difficult second half of the season.sport
