MVUMA – Zanu PF Midlands provincial youth chairperson, Prosper Machando allegedly attacked aspiring Ward 13 councillor Tremendous Musara, accusing him of campaigning for Chrispen Tomu.
Tomu, who is known in business circles by his trade name Nice Time, and Machando are both angling to take over the Chirumhanzu Zibagwe parliamentary seat from first lady Auxillia Mnangagwa who recently announced she was no longer available to serve as MP.
Sources told TellZim News Machando hired youths to attack Musara, accusing him of supporting an opponent.
When contacted for comment, Zanu PF provincial spokesperson, Cornelius Mupereri confirmed the incident but could not shed more light.
“We heard about the issue but we aren’t yet privy to all the facts. Investigations are underway and as Zanu PF, we are saying no to violence be it inter or intra-party. We are really looking forward to a peaceful election,” said Mupereri.
Machando, however, denied being involved in the violence, saying such talk was the work of his detractors who wanted to give Tomu an upper hand in the race.
“I am not a violent person as everybody I have worked with in the party knows. Musara is an unstable politician who is trying to open doors for an MDC-T activist to campaign under the Zanu PF banner. It is for this reason that he is creating all these falsehoods,” Machando said.
In a social media outburst, Musara who reportedly sustained injuries on the wrist during the attack, demanded an apology from his assailants.
“To all those who attacked me, I want you to apologise before I make this matter a police case. If you don’t comply I will not need a witness, Nice Time shop security cameras have all the evidence I need so please, do as I say and I give you 24 hours,” reads Musara’s message.politics

But people like Western Ezra are they serious? I mean this self-styled war vet who single-handedly attempted to grab Panyanda lodge. If I were him I would have contested for a ward not the whole Masvingo West constituency. A ward would have been far much better – not an urban ward but a rural one.
Even if Mapombi is to contest against Western Ezra, I bet with the last drop of my blood ndaimudya zvekuti aizvisungirira kana kunwa poison. Akawana five, I mean 5 votes anenge arwa semvumba chaiyo.
But Mapombi is not happy by the elimination of Mudzikisi; that was a well calculated move to give Marapira advantage in Masvingo North. Marapira is not liked by many people in Masvingo North if truth is to be told but akagadzirirwa penalty kuti angogohwesa hake gedhe risina keeper. If he wasn’t afraid of Mudzikisi then they should have allowed him to contest.

MWENEZI – The Mwenezi Rural District Council (RDC) and people in villages close to Neshuro growth point are engaged in a bitter dispute over land that the local authority claims has been irregularly sold to home seekers by unscrupulous villagers.
The council had earmarked the land for the expansion of the growth point but villagers sold the land, much of which used to be their fields, before it could be taken away from them.
Much of the land subject to the dispute makes up part of such villages as Dungwe, Madanha and Mangezi.
Mwenezi RDC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Albert Chivanga confirmed the dispute saying they had since approached the courts to seek an eviction order.
“The area is part of the extension of Neshuro growth point which has already been gazetted. Initially, the area had only four households but now there are 63 people who are already developing the stands after they bought it from the first four.
“Since the land belongs to the local authority, individuals have no right to sell it so we have approached the courts to seek an eviction order and the demolition of the erected structures,” said Chivanga.
People who bought the land have however remained defiant and are busy erecting the structures, vowing to resist any plan to move them away.
The matter was due to be heard at the civil court by the time of going to print.local

GWERU – Midlands State University (MSU) this week joined the world in commemorating Earth Day under the theme ‘How can we help reduce plastic, litter and pollution’.
Speaking at an event, Environmental Management Agency (Ema) Midlands provincial manager, Benson Bhasera said the programme was in recognition of environmental protection initiatives that were put in place beginning in 1970.
“This year’s celebrations are in remembrance of the first teach-in of 1970 and all other environmental protection efforts that were carried out across the globe in the understanding that as a combined force, we can achieve a lot in safeguarding the environment.
“I urge the society as a whole, our students, the business community and each and every individual to focus on ending plastic pollution. I think we can draw a lesson in the public understanding that people and the environment make up a single system which is dangerously defenceless,” said Bhasera.
A teach-in is defined as similar to a general educational forum on any complicated or burning issue and is meant to be practical, participatory and oriented toward action.
The first environmental teach-in was organised on April 22, 1970 by a United States senator, Gaylord Nelson, who was later awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in recognition of his work.
Bhasera urged everyone to be responsible when disposing of plastics since such materials are not biodegradable.
“I urge everyone to dispose of plastic properly, especially kaylites. Make an effort to burn them or to dispose them properly because they can seriously cause problems in our water bodies. The issue of plastic food packaging increases the shelf life of foods and provides a cheap and hygienic range of wrappings, but the property of plastics makes it difficult to maintain a clean environment,” said Bhasera.
The event was organised by the Environmental Club in partnership with Ema and was graced by captains of industries as well as officials from City of Gweru and Forestry Commission.
It was also attended by students from National University of Science Technology (Nust), Great Zimbabwe University (GZU), Lupane State University (LSU) and Chinhoyi University Technology (Cut).local

ZVISHAVANE – Upcoming Afro pop, dancehall and reggae musician, David Makoni aka Datler, has blasted club DJs and music promoters for pulling down new artists, claiming microphones and sound systems are often tempered with whenever supporting artists get onto the stage.
Makoni told TellZim News in an interview that there was a palpable lack of commitment to the growth of upcoming artists in the industry.
“One of the challenges we face as artists is sabotage by club DJs and promoters who do not give us a fair opportunity to showcase our talents. Whenever we get onto the stage, there are problems with equipment but everything gets sorted as soon as it is time for the main act to perform.
“That alone is a big drawback for us because all the energy and zeal would go if fans lose interest and in some instances, they would throw missiles onto the stage,” said Makoni.
The talented artist warned there was no easy way for musicians who are yet to make their own names, advising them to keep working hard and avoid drug abuse.
“We need to work harder in this industry. Some use drugs and get involved in pornography in order to make it but that is not the answer. If you are a decent musician, your conduct and your work should inspire society,” he said.
Makoni started his music in 2013 doing hip-hop but changed to Zim dancehall with his track Amai which became a hit on local radio stations such as YA FM and 98.4 FM.
On March 30, he released his first album, Gaya, which comprises such tracks as Hwahwa, Mainini and Naume.entertainment

Many candidates contesting in the Zanu PF primaries in Masvingo Urban have expressed outrage at the manner the process has been handled so far, saying the whole thing was manipulated in favour of certain individuals.
The elections are continuing today after a largely fallacious start which saw some candidates’ names disappearing from the voters roll although they were on the ballot paper.
Victims in this regard were Talent Majoni (Ward 7) and Lovemore Mufamba (Ward 10) Tarcicius Mandava (Ward 2) and Rose Musakanda (Ward 10).
Reports also said up to 500 voters in Ward 10 had been turned away because their names did not appear in the cell registers.
In Ward 7, many people were also turned away from voting yesterday, with Majoni himself complaining of a ‘cooked-up’ cell register which saw his own name ‘mysteriously’ transferred to a different ward.
In Ward 4, some supporters of Godhati Dunira, who is competing with Edison Zvobgo Jnr and Benjaman Mazarire for the Masvingo Urban parliamentary seat, claimed they had been turned away from voting.
Processes in Ward 1 went on relatively well, with indications that incumbent councillor, Garcia Mundondo will easily retain his seat.
Preliminary results are also showing that Cllr Mandava has lost his Ward 2 to Kubiku by a mere two votes while Wellington Mahwende was the favourite to take Ward 6.
Elsewhere, three candidates, including Francis Moyo and Darlington Chiwa pulled out of the race for Chiredzi West parliamentary seat claiming widespread disenfranchisement of their supporters.
This left only Farai Musikavanhu in the race for the hotly contested seat although the exercise’s credibility or lack thereof was yet to be confirmed.
In Zaka East, there were protests by supporters of Clemence Chiduwa because his name did not appear on the ballot paper, leaving Nyasha Gavaza and Rungisai Gumbwanda as the only candidates.
There were also protests in Chivi South Ward 25 where voting materials arrived late with many people reportedly failing to find their names in the cell registers.
There was also a reported mix up of voting material meant for some wards in Bikita and Gutu districts.topnews

MASVINGO – The Ambrose Mutinhiri-led National Patriotic Front (NPF) today Friday, May 27, made a bold proclamation of its presence in the province; holding its first provincial inter-district meeting at Charles Austin’s Theatre.
The meeting – which drew approximately 300 people – was attended, among other people, by the party’s chairpersons of wards and districts as well as provincial leaders.
NPF national political commissar, former Zanu PF Bikita South MP Jeppy Jaboon praised deposed president Robert Mugabe for bringing democracy and constitutionalism to Zimbabwe which he said the new party was eager to uphold.
He encouraged party members to respect the legacy of the former president as well as to shun fighting against other opposition political parties that he said were critical in removing Zanu PF from power.
“Do not fight with other opposition parties. We have the same mandate with them of removing Junta PF – the government of thieves. Whether it’s MDC or any other opposition, we are rallying towards the same goal that the Junta must fall come August.
“We used to talk tiri muG40 kuti vanhu ava imbavha vane mweya wekuba plus that they are tribalistic. Nyika haitongwe nokuti unoti ndiri muKaranga but by the will of the people,” thundered Jaboon.
Junta PF is the derogatory name coined by the now scattered members of the defeated G40 to smear the President Emmerson Mnangagwa-led Zanu PF faction that came to power at the back of a military coup last year.
Jaboon also hinted on NPF joining a mooted grand alliance of other opposition parties to confront Zanu PF as a united front.
“We will come back to you as leaders at a later stage if there are issues related to joining the alliance but we need to assess the ground first,” he said.
NPF Masvingo provincial chairperson, Amasa Nhenjana said as a province, they will field aspiring councillors in all districts to contest in the forthcoming elections.
Other notable NPF members who attended the meeting were secretary for finance Phiona Rickets, national spokesperson Jealosy Mawarire and deputy national political commissar Visani Moyo.politics

Aspiring councillor for Ward 9 Masvingo Urban, Sylvester Chikondo, says he is confident of his chances both in the Zanu PF primaries this Sunday as well as the general elections later in the year owing to his “proven commitment to servant leadership”.
The people of Ward 9 deserve better. We have seen many councillors and many promises in the past but nothing has been done. I come with a new narrative, a new approach towards a leadership that is responsive to people’s needs,” said Chikondo, who is a school teacher by training and a businessman by occupation.
The youthful politician, who is the current secretary for the party’s Mgagao district, will sweat it out against four other contestants in the primaries.
He joined the party in 2004 and has held many positions ever since; including being branch political commissar and secretary for administration in the youth league.
“The people of Rhodene do not have a clinic. They have to go to Masvingo Provincial Hospital which is however a referral hospital where you cannot simply go with a minor illness. Council should be pushed to establish a clinic there.
“Service delivery should be improved. There is general infrastructural decay there yet we are the people who pay more rates to council. The other problem is the perception that all people in Rhodene are well up. That is a bad perception because needy families there are not being considered for welfare programmes by both government and civil society. We want to change that,” said Chikondo.politics

MASHAVA – Masvingo West’s Ward 5 Zanu PF councillor apparent, Aleta Makomeke says it will no longer be business as usual once she wins the primary elections this weekend as well as the general elections expected later this year.
Makomeke says as the shadow councillor, she has been working under the guidance of the local MP, Ezra Chazamira together with the electorate and has implemented many projects in the ward for the betterment lives.
“I have been working with the people and have been doing some projects. I am sure this is the right time for me to represent the people of Ward 5 at a higher level. There are many things we can accomplish together,” said Makomeke.
She also said once given the mandate, she will work to ensure that some identified administrative policies are reviewed so that areas like Mashava mine can be serviced by Masvingo Rural District Council.
“Since the mine closed down many years ago, some services that used to be the responsibility of the mining company can no longer be delivered. This is the time to transfer that job to the local authority because the people there have been neglected for long.
“Areas like Disso have experienced water shortages for far too long so one of my priorities will be the delivery of clean and safe water to drink,” Makomeke said.
Makomeke said she also wanted to work for the welfare of the many old people in the ward, most of whom are living in absolute poverty.
“People who worked for the mine must get their pensions or their packages. The elderly and other poor people must get social welfare benefits,” she said.
Makomeke, who has many school children under her school fees for needy children programme, says improvement of the girl child’s access to education as well as the improvement of learning conditions will also be some of her priorities.top news

Jenya High School head Austin Hakunavanhu and his Pamushana High counterpart, Johnson Madhuku are some of the few practicing teachers who have made it onto the list of Zanu PF candidates cleared to take part in the party’s primary elections this Sunday.
Madhuku will contest for the right to represent Zanu PF in Bikita East while Hakunavanhu will fight it out to stand in Chivi Central on the ruling party’s ticket come the general elections expected in July this year.
In Bikita East, Madamombe High School head Josiah Sithole will also be hoping to wriggle his way past a coterie of other cadres who also want to take the parliamentary seat left by Jeppy Jaboon who was fired from the party last year.
The three ambitious school heads come as underdogs but judging from hindsight, they might spring a surprise in their respective constituencies since the ruling party’s primaries have produced a fair share of unprecedented outcomes in the past.
The three have vast experience in school administration, boasting fairly remarkable leadership records in the National Association of Secondary School Heads (NASH).
Madhuku is the reigning NASH president, Hakunavanhu is the organisation’s Chivi district chairperson and Sithole is the provincial treasurer.
Their involvement with the ruling party, as is the case with Sithole, had all along been more flirtatious than apparent, probably due to the difficulties involved in striking a fine balancing act between one’s professional life and political ambition.
A breakthrough for Sithole entails defeating a host of other candidates; Augustine Tirivangani, Charles Dziro, Universter Mukwena, Clifford Mazodze, Wilson Makonya as well as former police boss and successful sugarcane farmer, Edmore Veterai.
It is also a crowded house in Chivi Central where five other competitors have been given the greenlight to contest, the most recognisable among them being Zanu PF national secretary for legal affairs and former MP Paul Mangwana, as well as the incumbent MP, Ephraim Gwanongodza.
Other candidates vying for the party ticket in Chivi Central are Priscilla Pondo, former MP Albert Chamwadoro and former soldier, Rtd Col Manasa Mahapa.
Chivi is notorious for shuffling out MPs every five years, but it remains to be seen whether or not Gwanongodza will be able to defy the precedent by retaining his seat and serving for a second consecutive term.
In Bikita East, the now late Kennedy Matimba, who had been MP since 2005, passed away on Tuesday April 17 after a short illness, leaving Madhuku to tussle it out against Douglas Ravasingadi, Ndonde Pedzisai and Oliver Mamombe.politics
