Mandi Chimene chats with Gwenzi

Beatific Gumbwanda

CHIPINGE – The Minister of State for Manicaland Province and Member of Parliament for Makoni South, Mandiitawepi Chimene last week hailed businessman Garikai Gwenzi for taking her advice to build a boarding school in Chipinge South, saying his Gutika Academy was testimony that local investors can do wonders in their communities.
Chimene was flanked by the Minister of Energy and Power Development, Dr Samuel Undenge as well as Chipinge South MP Enoch Porusingazi when she officially opened Gutika Academy in Checheche.
She challenged all resourced people in the district and beyond to emulate Gwenzi by investing in education and tangible assets instead of wasting money on luxury cars and other extravagancies.
“No one will come and build schools for our children. We are now our own bosses as we now possess the wealth. So if you have money, don’t just move around buying people drinks and expensive cars but you have to invest by building tangible assets like schools.
“Gwenzi has already done wonders for the community and for his family. This school will never be closed even if Gwenzi passes on. You too must follow suit and invest your money wisely instead of just boasting around when you do not have any tangible asset,” said Chimene.
She said she was humbled that Gwenzi had taken advice and built state-of-the art facilities that house the prestigious high school.
The minister said Gwenzi had initially wanted to build the school in Hwange but she had managed to persuade him to rather invest in his own home area so as to uplift local people.
“I am very glad that Gwenzi listened to my advice because we wouldn’t have been here today if this investment had been made in Hwange,” she said.
Gutika Academy made its first enrolment only in January this year but the school has already attracted the interest of parents from far and wide owing to the quality of its facilities, its emphasis on quality education and its uniquely low pupil/teacher ratio.education

Take it easy, Dr Mzembi

0

Hey, politics is becoming more interesting these days. Dai uri muchero ndopayeka pataiti wonakira kundokuva. There are power struggles everywhere, in Zanu PF and MDC-T save for kwedu kwaTeurai ropa kuNPP where a seemingly stress-free Joice Mujuru is dancing like the Biblical King David.
Kkkkkk aa-ah amai vanonakirwa zvavo ivava – kuita senge mambo Davita vakatamba kusvika amai vapopota. Yes, Mapombi heard a lot of comments from fellow Zimbabweans, mixed feelings though, after Mujuru’s video while dancing went viral on social media.
Runaidha akatamba Rhumba achidzikira pasi kudai achitambisa chiuno so achidzikira pasi kudai izvi hehehehedee-e hurii-Iii seka zvako Mapombi. The dance was just super! Of course, many people condemned her saying that was not typical of a leader. Haa-a tikwanirei imi; how can you say that to the leader of a coalition? Kkkkkk the leader of National People’s Rainbow Coalition Joice Teurairopa Mujuru kkkkkkkk. Mapombi is also a woman therefore, I cannot be seen passing comments that are not so positive to a fellow woman who is equally ambitious. Or should I highlight it so that Mujuru will correct certain things.
Cde Mujuru, aah by the way you seized to be Cde the very day you were fired from Zanu PF zviya. Kkkkkkk but Zanu PF yakapenga manje, as long as you are loyal to the party you will remain a comrade but the moment you start opposing the status quo you will seize to be a Cde. Even the State-controlled media will testify to that.
Even our new Minister of State for Masvingo Dr Paul Chimedza can confirm that too. When he was removed from his Health deputy ministerial position for allegedly aligning himself to Gamatox, State media stopped addressing him as Cde Chimedza – he became a Mr Chimedza. Now that Mugabe pardoned him and appointed him Minister of State, he automatically becomes Cde kkkkkk wozodei.
Mapombi is very sure Cde Mnangagwa vakaita zvekutamba he will become Mr Mnangagwa soon the same way Mr Mutsvangwa, Mr Mahiya and team earned the title. Kwaaaaaaaa! Zanu PF chiororo.
But Mapombi is sure Mugabe is turning green with envy following the honour of Ndabaningi Sithole in Ghana – a street in Accra, Ghana was named after one of Zimbabwe’s founding nationalists. Mugabe denied Sithole even a provincial hero status claiming that he was a sellout. Ende munonyadzisa Gushungo. If you genuinely mean that ko vana Hungwe zvingadaro vari mugovernment here nhasi?
Mapombi heard vana Hungwe vaitotengesa zvekurevesa kudarika Ndabaningi uyu.
Anyway, sorry I diverted a bit. I was talking about Mujuru and her seductive dances – ko kungotambisa chiuno chete varume vazhinji vanenge vava kutofunga kwazvakarehwa ka. I am not saying the dance was wrong but probably the men who passed negative comments was a reaction to their feelings –maybe they could not concentrate after watching . We know how weak are some men; vamwe ndivana bambazonke kkkkkkkkk. Haa but Marujata akaoma vakomana. Mapombi thought Grace was the least qualified to talk about zvekuvimbika kwevarume and stuff but kutotukirira Ngwena wena kkkkkkk hanzi bambazonke.
Mapombi heard the newly-appointed Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Walter Mzembi was left embarrassed after Mugabe was stripped off the WHO ambassadorial post in less than 48hrs, a position the new minister is believed to have heavily lobbied for.
Kkkkk Wale, please take it easy. You are dealing with someone who has long become a hard sell. We know you are under pressure to impress your dear leader but take it easy, please. There is no need to rush because position wakatoipinda kare. And it’s fun how things change so. Mapombi heard the former Foreign Affairs Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, who was demoted to lead the Micro-Economic and Planning ministry, was here in Masvingo conducting a workshop on ZimAsset. Kkkkkkk ndoinonzi fall from grace zveshuwa.
I hope that Dr Mzembi will take heed. But even WHO yacho hainyare yakaita seiko? How can they appoint someone like baba Chatunga to be its ambassador?  Thank God the whole thing was reversed otherwise Mapombi was going to melt neshungu chaidzo. Ehe, kunyungudika chaiko nekuti ndoanonzi makunakuna ka iwaya atanga taitirwa neWHO.
Anyway, it is almost lunch time now let me go ndindokanga hangu maputi angu. Today the meal will be a heavy one because maputi acho ane nzungu and I will take a rotten banana as desert. Wozodei munyika yaba yakasununguka kudai. But zvinopera chete rwendo runo mukaona nesuwo vana Mapombi toenda kundo register kuvhota zivai kuti kwakaipa. Yes; I registered to vote and kana usina or usati please don’t talk to me. Ndinongotaura chete with those who have registered to vote.
In fact, Mapombi is considering to afford those who register to vote a one-on-one with Mapombi. Pakadii ipapo. Of course the one-on-one won’t be for free kkkkkkkkk. Munondipawoka something as token of appreciation. Kana muchizvigona kuna vaMagaya navaMakandiwa so why not on me, mind you ndini chete celebrity rinogara kuChitima. But before I go, I just want to thank Cde Mphoko kuti yah rambai muchingoita zvamuri kuita these days. Mboko imboko!mapombi

ZVISHAVANE – A man has appeared in court for attempting an unlawful break-in into his ex-girlfriend’s house after she had refused to let him in.
Saymore Negore aged 25, appeared before Zvishavane magistrate Archie Wochiunga for attempting to gain forced entry into his former girlfriend’s house in Isiah Park.
An outline which was read by the court interpreter, Ashleigh Gougoh alleged that Negore went to Ruramai Mashunye’s house around 02: 00 hrs and started swearing and shouting at Mashunye ordering her to open the door but she refused.
Negore proceeded to grab a brick and smashed a window pane but vanished after realising that he had alarmed Mashunye’s neighbours.
Negore pleaded guilty and told the court that he had been insulted through an anonymous phone call which he suspected to be the work of Mashunye.
He was expected to be back in court to receive his judgement.
Meanwhile, a man from Mandava was sentenced to 135 hours community service after he pleaded guilty to having sex with his 14-year-old girl friend.
Twenty-year-old Runesu Shumba, appeared before Zvishavane magistrate Archie Wochiunga for having sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl.
Shumba told the court that he was love with the girl and claimed that he had the right to satisfy his partner’s sexual desires but Wochiunga told him the law criminalises sexual relations with minors.

MUTARE – With just four matches before the curtain comes down on the Zifa Eastern Region Division One title race, it is still game on for the Manicaland-based trio of Mutare City Rovers, Buffaloes FC and Tenax FC who seem to have equal chances of winning the Premier Soccer League ticket (PSL).
All the three teams had a good time last weekend when they collected all the crucial maximum points although the Tenax and Surrey FC match, which the former was leading 3-2, was abandoned in the 92nd minute following protestations over a contentious penalty.
Second-placed Buffaloes maintained the three points gap when they dismissed United Lions 2-0 while log leaders Mutare City also enjoyed a 2-0 victory over Mucheke Pirates in Sakubva Stadium.
Mutare City Rovers had all its goals in the first half courtesy of braces from Hebron Mukokota who first capitalised from Evans Chikwaikwai’s throw in the 6th minute before his efforts again saw his name on the score sheet when he scored just outside the box.
Speaking after the game, Mutare City assistant coach Itai Makumi praised his charges for playing according to the plan.
“We had a good game, the boys played according to plan and scored early. It worked to our advantage because these teams now have nothing to lose. There is no more room for mistakes so all our remaining games are a must win,” said Makumi.
Mutare City will travel to Chipinge for a match against Black Eagles while Buffaloes have a tricky encounter with Mucheke Pirates.
Tenax FC will be hoping for a draw at most when Buffaloes and Mutare City Rovers meet and again and will need both teams to either draw or lose on their other remaining matches.sport

GWERU – A Somabula man found himself on the wrong side of the law after he allegedly set on fire the hut where his mother and siblings were sleeping following a dispute over an ox.
By the time of writing, Blessed Mudzi (28) was on the run following the incident which happened after a fight over an ox left behind by his late father.
Mudzi’s mother Prisca Manyemba escaped with serious burns and was admitted at Gweru Provincial Hospital while the other two victims survived with minor injuries.
Mudzi’s younger brother Prosper saved the day when he broke the exit using an axe.
Manyemba then reported the matter to the police.
She told TellZim News that ever since her husband passed away, she had been having endless disputes with her son Mudzi.
“I am a widow and since the death of my husband, I have been having problems with my son. He is always away doing gold panning and each time he returns home, he harasses me and his siblings.
“On that day, he left home grudgingly because I had told him to leave and find somewhere else to stay with his wife whom he says should not do any work at home just because she holds an ‘A’ level certificate,
“This is what angered him and he then decided to try and kill us by burning the hut in which we were sleeping,” she said.local

GOKWE – A notorious Kwekwe burglar who terrorised business people at gunpoint over the past years was recently slapped with 23 years’ imprisonment after he was convicted on several counts of armed robbery.
The accused is part of a gang linked to a spate of armed robberies in Zhombe, Kwekwe and Silobela where they terrorised businesspeople, getting away with electrical gadgets and groceries.
Tafadzwa Magarisanwa (26) of House Number 1398/17, Mbizo, pleaded not guilty to all the 43 counts when he appeared before Gokwe regional magistrate Solomon Jenya.
Magarisanwa was convicted of 28 counts after nine were withdrawn by the State because witnesses had failed to come to testify. He was acquitted on six other charges after full trial.
On behalf of the State, Robert Ndlala said between the months of February and March 2015, the accused together with his accomplices who are still at large, terrorised shops mostly in Zhombe, Kwekwe and Silobela, robbing them of electrical gadgets and groceries.
“Magarisanwa and accomplices would produce a pistol and threaten to kill shop keepers whom they would force to hand over electrical gadgets and groceries.
“The robbers were targeting mostly shops in Zhombe, Kwekwe and Silobela where they robbed radios, digital video players and laptops,” Ndlala said.
He also told the court that the accused was caught after he stole property at a school where he was performing community service for a different offence.local

VISET condemns harassment of vendors

Clever Taperamoyo

The Vendors Initiative for Social and Economic Transformation (Viset) has condemned recent utterances by President Robert Mugabe to the effect that vendors should be cleared off the streets.
Addressing members of the Zanu PF youth league national assembly from all the 10 provinces of the country at the party’s headquarters in Harare on October 7, President Mugabe spoke against the deplorable state of the capital and said government must move with speed to move vendors off undesignated selling points.
The statements almost immediately saw vendors being driven off the streets of many towns by a combination of municipal and riot police.
In response, Viset described the move as irrational and inhuman, arguing that it ran contrary to the national constitutional objective which obliges the State and all its agencies to promote private initiatives of self-reliance.
This also comes as Mugabe has failed to create the 2.2 million jobs he promised in the run-up to the 2013 elections.
“We are in the streets not because we want but your administration’s Machiavellian macro-economic policies have brought us to this stage.
“The right to human dignity, right to food and right to life cannot be realised if people are denied opportunities to earn livelihoods,” Viset said in a statement.
Viset also challenged City of Harare to take full responsibility for its failure to provide adequate designated sites for vendors.
The organisation said the forceful eviction of informal traders will not solve the current vending morass for as long as the evictions are not met with equal provision of proper sites for informal traders to do their work.
The move to drive vendors off the streets was also condemned by other organisations like the National Vendors Union Zimbabwe (Navuz).local

CHIREDZI – Old Mutual last week opened their second Green Zone for Masvingo province in a week, the objective being to create greater convenience for the financial giant’s many clients in the sugar growing town.
The Green Zone initiative is one of Old Mutual’s biggest customer innovations which is intended to provide convenience to the customers by bringing various Old Mutual subsidiaries under one roof.
Old Mutual chief executive officer (CEO) in Africa, Jonas Mushosho said the company was pleased to bring its one-stop-shop financial services under single management to Chiredzi.
“The Old Mutual family now has many subsidiaries that customers will access at one place taking in CABS, Mutual Insurance Company, Old Mutual Securities and Old Mutual Life Assurance Company,” said Mushosho.
He said the launch of the branch in Chiredzi will give Old Mutual a tight communion with sugarcane farmers in the district.
“The investment that we are launching today shows our commitment to Zimbabwe and the community of Chiredzi. It will help ease the way of doing business for the farmers,” said Mushosho.
He said the farmers needed a friend on whom they can depend for excellent financial services as those offered by Old Mutual.
“This company together its customers has survived two world wars, many famines and droughts, the unilateral declaration of independence by Ian Smith in 1965 which was quickly followed by UN sanctions and the protracted liberation struggle.
“We have suffered considerable setbacks along the way, particularly the decline of GDP in 1987 up to 2008 but we survived all that including the dollarisation of the economy,” said Mushosho.business

NetOne to improve network coverage in Chiredzi South

CHIREDZI – The country’s second largest mobile telecommunications services provider by subscriber base, NetOne has mapped two sites in Chiredzi South to construct 70 kilometre network radius boosters to improve connectivity in the Sengwe community.
Addressing hundreds of people who were gathered at Makhanani Primary School recently, NetOne acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Brian Mutandiro said the company planned to construct two network boosters in the near future.
“We are going to construct two network boosters in partnership with Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF). The first booster will be built near Headman Gezani’s homestead and the other one will be constructed near Chief Sengwe’s homestead.
“These two boosters are going to cover a distance of 70 kilometres and you will be able to send money through our new programme called OneMoney which follows One Fusion,” said Mutandiro.
In a side interview, Mutandiro said the technical team has already made a survey and identified two suitable sites.
“Our technical team came and made a survey and recommended two of the places we visited. We are at a stage of resource-mobilisation which is equivalent to constructing what we call passive infrastructure and we will then move to active infrastructure; the antennas that transmits waves. So this process is now at an advanced stage.
“We just need two to three months to complete the work,” said Mutandiro.
Rural areas especially to the South of Chiredzi are some of the most poorly serviced areas, with both road and communication infrastructure lacking requisite attention.business
