Sex workers threaten council over Chigarapasi bar closure

Beatific Gumbwanda in Chiredzi

22 Jan 2017 – CHIREDZI – Disgruntled sex workers have promised to send an ultimatum to Chiredzi Town Council if the local authority fails to comply with their demands to reverse their closure of the popular beer spot.
The sex workers, who said they are now starving, have threatened to go guns blazing against council if the authorities ignore their pleas to restore their source of income.
They said their lives are now very hard and they can no longer send their children to school as the place that used to give them money is no more.
“We will confront council because things are no longer easy for us. We need to eat, pay our rentals and send our kids to school. They should open Chigarapasi with immediate effect,” said one lady of the night called Grace.
Landlords with houses surrounding Chigarapasi area are also facing the same fate as their tenants’ source of income have been disrupted by the closure of what used to be the largest beer hall in the country.
The bar was shut down following a council resolution against loss-making council-run enterprises and a directive from the Ministry of Local Government to do away with unsustainable ventures.news

Health time bomb as Ritz runs without water

22 Jan 2017 – MASVINGO – A health time bomb is ticking in the city centre as one of the biggest night clubs, Ritz has been running without water since October 2016 after council stopped supplies in response to the club’s failure to pay bills.
Well-placed sources told this publication that the night club has since shut down its restaurant and, to clean the premises, employees use water drawn from the roofs when it is raining.
The club has also hosted several shows during the festive season in spite of the challenge.
“In October last year, employees were sent to look for water in and around town and they would also get water from civic centre gardens. The rains are a relief as they are now harvesting rain water falling from the roof,” the source said.
The operation of public places without running water is a known risk to community health in light of diseases like typhoid and cholera.
Masvingo City Council director for Health Services; Zvapano Munganasa refused to dwell on the issue but said no businesses should operate without water.
“We have not yet received the report from treasury on that issue but in such a condition, we are usually tasked to close down premises. If treasury communicates the development to us, nothing will stop us from executing our duties,” Munganasa said.news

Married woman follows rapist for more sex

….asks court to withdraw case
Elliot Jinjika in Chivhu

22 Jan 2017 – CHIVHU – In a stranger than fiction case, a 22-year-old Featherstone woman last week asked Chivhu Magistrates Court to withdraw two counts of rape against a man who raped her, claiming that they were now in love with each other.
Talent Zvenyika, of Plot 1 Tredidon, Featherstone, stunned the court after she asked for the withdrawal of the charge against William Chiocha who allegedly raped her on two occasions last year.
Chiocha (38) of Mudzimba Village, Chief Mutekedza, Sadza, was set free after Magistrate Fadzai Mutombeni withdrew the case after the plea.
Zvenyika claimed that after the rape incidences, she had fallen in love with the alleged rapist as they had enjoyed consensual sexual intercourse on several other occasions and they had asked each other for forgiveness.
It was the State’s case that sometime between February 1 and 29, 2016, Chiocha arrived at Zvenyika’s homestead with his young brothers around 15:00 hrs and proposed love to her but she rejected saying she was married.
Chiocha later returned around 20:00 hrs on the same day and found the complainant asleep with the door not locked as her husband, Billa Luckmore Gijima, had not yet returned from a football match.
He began to pester the complaint again on his love proposal before going to her bed where he allegedly raped her once.
On another day, Chiocha once again approached Zvenyika around 19:00 hrs in her kitchen hut where she was preparing supper while her husband was at a beer drink.
He then grabbed a screaming Zvenyika by the shoulders and pulled her to the back of the kitchen door and raped her.
The complainant waited till early September 2016, when she divulged the rape ordeals to her husband after realising that her husband’s friend, Ozias Dzaramba had not told him as she had asked him to.
On September, 16 2016, Gijima reported the case at Charter Police Base.
“I am not the one who reported the case to the police. Although I did not consent on the first and second times, we later on indulged in consensual sexual intercourse on several other instances after we asked each other for forgiveness for previous cases. We are now in love and therefore the case can be withdrawn,” Zvenyika told the court.

Gopo, Muzvimbiri in upheaval against vote-buying in Bikita West

….Police called as candidates block entry to GMB at Nyika

Kudakwashe Gopo

TellZim reporter

20 Jan 2017 – Bikita – As the vote-buying spree reaches fever pitch ahead of the Bikita West by-election scheduled for tomorrow, Zim PF candidate Kudakwashe Gopo and independent; Innocent Muzvimbiri have teamed up to block the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) Nyika depot entrance to prevent Zanu PF officials from ferrying maize that is being used for vote-buying.
The incident happened this morning (Friday) after a daring Gopo and his counterpart used their cars to block the gate out of frustration with the ruling party’s increasingly brazen use of food aid to buy votes.
“We are irritated by the continual flagrant abuse of public resources and food aid as campaigning tools. We have watched for a long time as they gathered people in ward 9 and 10 to give them food along partisan lines.
“We then came together and used our cars to block the entrance. The police were called and we raised our concerns with them. The social welfare officers pleaded with us saying the food was to be taken to Bikita East and not Bikita West so they agreed that we provide escort cars to make sure the food truly goes to Bikita East,” said a livid Gopo.
He also said they will make sure that no other food supplies would be taken from the depot until after the by-election.
“We cannot continue to watch Zanu PF abusing power and engaging in unethical political practices,” said Gopo.news

Bikita West candidates plead for support ahead of poll

BIKITA – As Bikita West by-election to replace jailed Munyaradzi Kereke draws closer, election candidates have pleaded with voters to support them in claiming the vacant M.P’s post which is up for grabs.
The by-election, which has been set for January 21, 2017, will see six candidates vying for the seat.
The six are Beauty Chabaya (Zanu PF), Kudakwashe Gopo (Zim PF), Madock Chivasa (NCA), Terrence Tanyaradzwa Makumbo (RDZ), Heya Shoko (Independent) and Innocent Muzvimbiri (Independent).
In a series of interviews, TellZim News asked the candidates what they would tell voters on their last day of campaigning and varying answers were obtained.
“I will simply tell voters that if they want to eradicate corruption, they should vote for me. I have spelled that out clearly on my posters by telling potential voters that ‘say no to corruption by voting I. Muzvimbiri,” said independent candidate Innocent Muzvimbiri.
“I will also make it clear to them that I am church going leader who is God fearing. This would be a true indication that I am the Lord’s servant whom people would least expect to go wayward,” Muzvimbiri added.
Heya Shoko, an independent candidate who won the seat as an MDC-T candidate in 2008, said he would simply urge voters to choose wisely.
“My message for this election is clear and I will stick to that to the last day I will meet up with voters. The message is that they should vote wisely, to vote for someone who has worked within the opposition since 1999. I will give emphasis on the need for voters to distrust dubious candidates who would pull a Themba Mliswa once elected,” he said.
Youthful Zim PF candidate; Kudakwashe Gopo said he would simply commit himself to be a voter’s servant.
“If people elect you into power they expect you to be a good servant. I will therefore commit myself to be a people’s servant, I will tell them that I will do as they command me. I will also urge people to be respectful of their leaders and leaders to be humble as they are key characteristics of people in a successful community,” Gopo said.
Zanu PF candidate, Beauty Chabaya, who said she was the voters favourite, was not forthcoming when this reporter called her.
“I am in good touch with voters, I think I am the favorite…I need time on that one (referring to the question on what would be her message to voters on the last day she meets them before election). I am currently occupied with some work,” said uncertain Chabaya before her mobile phone continuously went unanswered.
Chivasa and Makumbo were also not available for comment as their phones went unanswered.news

Morgan is not more!

0
Is there anyone who can offer me a decent accommodation Cdes? I cannot continue living at Dr Grace Mugabe Trading Centre anymore – kurara muma plastic hakuchaita akomana munondiwana ndakafa one day. Mapombi is now desperate for accommodation especially after the death of a colleague who was hit by a fallen gum tree and died on spot pamasquarter apo padhuze nekumaR.
In fact looking for a decent accommodation was one of Mapombi’s New Year resolutions. And of course stop eating rotten bananas and have decent meals as well. Asi maputi handiregi!
Mapombi has heard a lot of noise about a by-election to take place in Bikita West this Saturday. The noise from all political parties is just too much. But from what I overheard, I have a word for two gentlemen – President Robert Mugabe and leader of the MDC-T Morgan Richard Tsvangirai.
I like one thing about Cde Mugabe – he does not want to be associated with mediocrity. Did you still remember how he attacked and distanced self from that losing Norton candidate uyo wekudyiwa naThemba Mliswa?
Kkkkkkkk hanzi taigozohwina seikowo iko kwakaisiwa mbavha yemakoko. He is such a clever man that he waits until the game is over and then suddenly makes a statement when things did not come the way he expected. Mapombi is smelling something at Bikita West – I can foresee Mugabe making a statement. But Mapombi wants Mugabe to do it before the election – he should come out in the open and say whether he supports Beauty Chabaya or not. Kwete kumirira kuti atange ahwina or kudyiwa wozoti hee this and that blah blah.
Mnangagwa made it clear that Chabaya haamuzivi and this is what gentlemen should do – not to pretend as if you support but kana madyiwa wotanga kuti munhu imbavha. We want that statement as soon as possible from Singapore. Aah is it Singapore, Dubai; China; Mali; Equatorial Gunea or Malasia? Wherever the President might be; we just want a statement indicating whether she is behind Chabaya or not kwete zvokuzotitaurira zvimwe kana munhu adyiwa.
Mapombi is not suggesting that Chabaya unodyiwa but ndiri kungoti operation buda pachena chete kwete kuzongoda kutamba inorira.
Anyway, enough of Zanu PF and it’s imposed candidates. Mapombi heard Morgan is in South Africa for treatment – I wish him a quick recovery. But Mapombi is sure the MDC-T leader is overrated – he is not more. Or it’s Elias Mudzuri, Misheck Marava and a Gumbi who playing petty factional politics?
I heard they decided to support a little known independent candidate inonzi Innocent Muzvimbiri – kkkkkkk makakwana here vanhu imi? MDC-T is busy issuing statements saying we are supporting Muzvimbiri yet the guy is also busy telling ZEC that he would vote for Zanu PF. Kkkkkkk I am sure you should read detembo raJC Kumbirai rekuti ‘Ngwarai vasikana ngwarai’.
Zvimwe zvodawo kushandisa njere – supporting a loser simply means you are a loser too. Sometimes factional politics dzakanaka asi pamwe dzodawo njere – Gumbi and team apa makashaya zvekuita apa ndokunonzi kugumirwa uku. But I am happy you will learn one or two lessons. But more importantly; Morgan should make a public statement disassociating himself from this independent candidate Gumbi and team purport to be supporting.
Otherwise Morgan is not more! Maybe it’s Joice Mujuru who is more kkkkk.
It’s almost lunch time ini ndichingowawata let me go ndindokanga zvangu maputi angu for lunch. Manje moto wacho unobata here nemvura iyoyi yakadai kuuya – I should seriously consider looking for a decent accommodation. But ndofunga Command Agirikatya iri kufaya nekunaya kuri kuita mvura uku. Hameno vanga vatotengesa mbeu, fertilizer and fuel yeCommand agriculture. Ini zvangu Mapombi ndakakanga mbeu.
By the way VP Mphoko was in Bikita yesterday. Kkkkkkkk the tallest man was in town manje kuno haarare because hakunaka Five Star hotel kkkkkkkk. Mboko imboko! mapombi

Bikita chiefs in trouble

0
Chief Marozva
…Mpakwa bans political slogans at funerals
… 17 Village heads dump Zanu PF
TellZim Reporters
19 Jan 2017 – At least five chiefs and several traditional leaders from Bikita district are in hot soup over their reluctance to campaign for Beauty Chabaya who is Zanu PF’s candidate in the Bikita West by-election slated for this Saturday.
After realising that their candidate was not very popular with traditional chiefs, the Zanu PF leadership forced traditional leaders into a secret meeting at Chaka Lodge where they were allegedly forced to declare allegiance to the ruling party.
The meeting which lasted for more than four hours last Saturday was also attended by a senior army official (name supplied), senior Intelligence officers (CIOs), Zanu PF national political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere and the ruling party candidate Beauty Chabaya.
TellZim News was informed that Zanu PF called for a secret meeting with chiefs following an incident which left the ruling party humiliated at the funeral of headman Mpakwa’s mother when the traditional leader banned Zanu PF slogans at funerals in his area.
Zanu PF Central Committee member Murire had pleaded for an opportunity to address mourners and when he stood up, he started to chant Zanu PF slogans – a move which irritated both mourners and the headman.
There was drama when the headman immediately stood up and openly told mourners that he was not happy to see people taking advantage of the funeral to chant their party slogans.
More so, the Master of Ceremonies (MC) at the same funeral where Zanu PF slogans were banned addressed Zim PF candidate Kudakwashe Gopo as ‘honourable’ – a title which he did not give to Zanu PF’s Chabaya when he was thanking people who helped the family in cash and kind.
Gopo donated the coffin and also helped with the fuel for the logistics at the funeral while Chabaya donated some maize-meal and rice.
“Zanu PF was irritated by what happened at Mpakwa funeral… and also generally Bikita chiefs are regarded as very stubborn. This is not their first time to turn against Zanu PF; in 2013 they supported (Munyaradzi) Kereke through and through despite the fact that Elias Musakwa was the the official party candidate. At a star rally held at Mucheke’s Arena B open space in 2013, President Robert Mugabe announced that Zanu PF candidate in Bikita West was Musakwa and he threatened the same chiefs but they remained adamant. We are not sure whether Kasukuwere managed to convince these chiefs to support our party,” said a Zanu PF insider.
At the end of the meeting at Chaka Lodge, Chiefs Marozva, Mukanganwi, Budzi and Headman Mpakwa were seen loading Zanu PF t-shirts in their vehicles.
Meanwhile, 17 village heads out of 21 in ward 10 are also under fire for allegedly siding with Zim PF.
After ward 10 councillor Sign Mukanganwi’s dismissal from the Zanu PF last week for supporting Zim PF, the 17 village heads decided not to attend the ruling party’s meetings thereby drawing anger from party provincial leadership.
Acting provincial chairman Amasa Nenjana promised unspecified action against the village heads.news

Mphoko, Mujuru descend on Masvingo

Injured Mudock Chivasa (left) and Mudzamiri sit in their car
…as NCA candidate is attacked in Bikita
TellZim Reporter

19 Jan 2017 – MASVINGO – As the Bikita West by-election reaches fever pitch, Vice President; Phelekezela Mphoko and Zim PF President; Joice Mujuru have descended on Masvingo to drum up support for their candidates ahead of this Saturday’s by-election.
The two held rallies with Mphoko addressing Zanu PF supporters in Bikita at Nyika prowth point while Mujuru addressed Zim PF supporters at Mucheke Hall in Masvingo.
Although Mphoko brought along popular Dendera musician Suluman Chimbetu, he failed to draw even half the crowd that was pulled by Emmerson Mnangagwa when he visited the area earlier this month.
Mphoko pleaded with locals to vote for the Zanu PF candidate Beauty Chabaya and noted that he could not make any electoral promises as he feared being labelled a liar.
Addressing people at Mucheke Hall, Mujuru, who will also be in Bikita today (Thursday) also pleaded with Zim PF supporters to rally behind Kudakwashe Gopo and tried to justify the imposition of his candidature.
Gopo won the right to represent the party in the by-election even though the party did not hold primary elections.
“When we chose Gopo to represent us in Bikita West, the party was not yet stable as it is today so we just had to do what we could. This has however, turned to be a learning curve as we now know what the people want. We promise that if we are to take part in any election next time, we will hold primaries so that we send your choice to contest in the election,” said Mujuru.
Mujuru also took time to respond to criticisms on why Zim PF was taking part in by-elections while at the same time crying foul over the electoral system through NERA.
“Questions have also emerged on why Zim PF is contesting in elections while at the same time, we are a NERA signatory. I will tell you that Zim PF participation in this by-election does not stop us from advocating for electoral reforms.
“You must also not mistaken us for MDC-T who vowed that they will not take part in any election until electoral reforms are made. We never said that as Zim PF so generally, we are fighting for the same cause but we never said we will not take part in elections,” added Mujuru.
Meanwhile, the NCA candidate for Bikita West; Mudock Chivasa has claimed that he was viciously attacked allegedly by Zanu PF supporters on Tuesday at Nyika growth point.
“The youths followed me the whole day and by the time we were about to leave Nyika, they attacked me and my election agent Thomas Mudzamiri. The attack happened at around 10 pm and they were armed with a gun. I feel pain in my head and left wrist,” Chivasa said.
Chivasa said he will, however, continue to campaign despite the disturbances. He also added that the people of Bikita should know that elections come and go.
“We must not beat each because elections come and go but we will remain people from Bikita. We must never be at each other’s throats because of political differences. I will take further action soon after elections,” said Chivasa.news

Who stands a better chance in Bikita West?

If we were in the United States of America (USA), Bikita West would have been a swing State where the electoral result is unpredictable. Bikita West is never predictable, and with just a week before the by-election on January 21, 2017, none of the six candidates battling for honours has so far shown an upper hand.
But who really stands a better chance among the six candidates – Beauty Chabaya of Zanu PF, ZimPF’s Kudakwashe Gopo, Madock Chivasa of NCA, Tanyaradzwa Terence Makumbo of the Progressive Democrats of Zimbabwe (PDZ), independents Heya Shoko and Innocent Muzvimbiri?
Chabaya had a major boost last week when Acting President Emmerson Mnangagwa attended and addressed her rally at Nyika Growth Point. But there were two developments which took place during and soon after the rally which show that she is not an obvious winner.
Firstly, Mnangagwa bluntly indicated that he didn’t know Beauty all along except her parents but her name was brought forward by Saviour Kasukuwere, the national political commissar.
“Ini Beauty ndanga ndisingamuzivi; ndaiziva baba vake namai vake asi zita rake rakauya navaKasukuwere ndikati kana ari iye adiwa nevanhu veBikita bvazvakanaka (I didn’t know Beauty all along but her parents; Kasukuwere however, brought forward her name and I said if she is the one whom the people of Bikita West want, then there is no problem),” said Mnangagwa.
Mnangagwa’s statement was pregnant with intra-party political cues – the point being that Kasukuwere and his Generation 40 (G40) colleagues have imposed Beauty Chabaya on the people.
A thorough investigation showed that Team Lacoste faction, which pushes for Mnangagwa to replace the soon to be 93 years old President Robert Mugabe, is against Chabaya and might vote against her.
The Vice President might have descended on Bikita but his statement clearly disassociated himself from Chabaya and whatever results that would come out of January 21 election. Mngagwagwa was clear that he do not know her – the statement which Team Lacoste is riding on, justifying their ‘Bhora musango’ intend.
Secondly, Chabaya distributed around 2 000 T-shirts during the Mnangagwa rally but, surprisingly, the T-shirts were nowhere to be seen four days after the rally. In a tour throughout the constituency by this reporter on Sunday, he managed to identify only three people wearing Chabaya’s T-shirts across the whole constituency and this is very unusual especially for the ruling party, Zanu PF.
People interviewed by TellZim News however, revealed why people were not publicly wearing Chabaya’s T-shirts.
“Chabaya was imposed by G40; she doesn’t come from Bikita West. She got married somewhere in Mashonaland and it is her parents who are from Bikita West – we did not know her all along and she just came specifically for the by-election. We cannot and will never vote for a tourist politician. No one is interested in wearing her T-shirt publicly – in fact the majority are using them as night wear,” said a disgruntled Zanu PF supporter.
Chabaya is however, riding high on G40 support and it has to be seen if the faction can propel her to victory. The majority of Team Lacoste faction seems to hold Gopo in higher regard though.
The Gopo/Chabaya scenario is however, similar to the July 31, 2013 situation when Zanu PF had literally two candidates – Dr Munyaradzi Kereke and Elias Musakwa.
Musakwa was the official Zanu PF candidate while Kereke was sort of a ‘rebel’. Interestingly Kereke outmatched Musakwa with over 7 000 votes against 6 000. The 2013 results clearly showed that the Bikita West people were trying to put a message across; that is, they don’t tolerate an imposed candidate. Gopo might be the biggest beneficiary of the disgruntled Zanu PF supporters considering that they once worked together before he was unjustly fired from the party and joined ZimPF.
Gopo might win protest vote in Ward 5, which is Musakwa’s home area because the electorate is bitter with the manner Musakwa lost in the controversial primary elections.
But Gopo, too, is not a saint – he has some skeletons in his cupboard which might disturb his ascent. It emerged that Gopo’s mentor; retired Colonel Claudios Makova is not a darling for Bikita West people due to his alleged involvement in political violence during the 2001 by-election and 2008 elections. Thus Gopo’s close association with Makova might derail his ambitions come January 21.
Makova, however, is said to be the darling of Ward 12 where he reportedly electrified the whole ward and this means Gopo would have an advantage there. Ward 22 where Gopo comes from also supports the former Zanu PF youth. Another section from the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) also supports Gopo and this might give him added advantage over Chabaya. As it stands it is a 50-50 affair between Chabaya and Gopo.
Shoko is also not out of the equation. He has a sizeable following from his former party MDC-T and ZimPF. In 2013, Shoko garnered close to 4 000 votes and all he needs to do is to re-activate these people so they can vote for him again on January 21. He also managed to win support from ZimPF supporters who are against Makova and Gopo. By the way, some ZimPF supporters alleged that Gopo was imposed by Makova, and as a result, they threaten bhora musango (which would help Shoko to score).
The former Bikita West MP is moving around with key MDC-T members who are campaigning for him, and it seems like they have managed to win the hearts of many especially in Wards 10, 9 where he comes from and 5 as well as 13.
Shoko, however, is facing stiff competition from Muzvimbiri who is also fishing in the same MDC-T fish pond. Muzvimbiri is said to be moving around with the MDC-T district chairperson soliciting for votes. The Bikita Minerals worker also enjoys the sympathy of Roman Catholic Church members where he once held a powerful provincial position. If he managed to get support from Roman Catholic and MDC-T then he might spring a surprise. But how many Catholics might be in Bikita West who can propel him to victory? Maybe 1 000 at most. Muzvimbiri is not very popular with the electorate – maybe he is a dark horse.
Chivasa does not act like a real politician – it appears, for him, it’s a hobby to contest. If elections were to be judged by the number of posters pasted then Chivasa would have won unopposed as his face is almost everywhere in Bikita West. The real Chivasa is, however, not known and his chances of winning are zero. But with Bikita West, anything is possible!
The little known Makumbo is probably there to add numbers. Even his party PDZ is not known in Bikita. This reporter doubts if Makumbo will be able even to field all election agents.
Conclusively, the real battle is among Chabaya, Gopo and Shoko. The trio has equal chances of winning and it is not over until it’s over.news

Masvingo Urban councillors 2016 performance

0
Hubert Fidze
16/January/2016, 2018 is fast approaching and new candidates are emerging. TellZim News decided to rate the performance of councillors for the just ended 2016. We hope this fair analysis will help those who want to seek re-election to realise their weaknesses and strengths so that they can act accordingly while aspiring candidates observe where there is need for leadership replacement. The ratings are a product of wide consultations with residents and other stakeholders.
Ward 6 – Mayor Hubert Fidze 9/10
Councillor Hubert Fidze is a true example of a good leader – a loyal and humble servant who truly and obediently represented the interests of the residents of Masvingo. Fidze was the best communicator for the year 2016, and his use of social media particularly Facebook and WhatsaApp groups to reach out to the residents was unmatched.
Information about delays of garbage collection due to refuse trucks breakdown, water shortage due to burst pipes, low dam water levels and many other critical information required by residents was made available in a country where access to official information is almost taboo. Fidze stands a better chance of being re-elected in Ward Six; that is; if he is not aiming a higher office.

Ward 4 – Godfrey Kurauone 8/10
Godfrey Kurauone is the youngest councillor but he has done a tremendous job in 2016. The young man should be accredited for being a true representative of the residents – he was very active in council debates during full council meetings. Kurauone solely objected the abuse of council funds through donations to Zanu PF functions like the 21st February Movement celebrations and the just ended Zanu PF 16th national conference. Kurauone is therefore given credit for rejecting partisan abuse of public funds.
Kurauone is also still the darling of Ward Four people; he is always with the people and listen to their needs. He has managed to mobilise a number of organisations to donate to Mucheke Old People’s Home which falls in his ward.

Ward 8 – Against Chiteme 7/10
Against Chiteme seems to be a God fearing councillor. He rarely contributes in council debates but is not too proud to ask if he has not understood so that he goes back with the correct information when he gives feedback. Vendors at Chitima market have been using bush toilet but the councillor managed to push for the construction of proper ablution facilities at the market. He also managed few other projects like the fish project for the youth he initiated. Chiteme however, should improve his participation in full council meetings’ debates so that he becomes a complete councillor any ward would want to have. He is riding high on the support of his fellow ‘Madzibaba’ church members which might make it probably difficult to dislodge him in 2018.

Ward 10 – Lovemore Mufamba 7/10
Lovemore Mufamba started on a good note when he was elected in 2013 making several donations and project initiatives in the ward. He donated boreholes; water tanks and assisted pre-schools among other projects. However, the dismissal of people linked to the Joice Mujuru cabal like Dzikamai Mavhaire might have disturbed him a lot as he suddenly slowed down. Or is it because he puts more concentration on his school project in the Victoria Ranch? Mufamba participates in council debates, and it is always him and Kurauone most of the time. But political fanaticism seems to be his greatest handicap as he normally pushes for retrogressive policies simply because they please Zanu PF, even though those policies would be against the interests of residents. Mufamba needs to quickly go back to the people in his ward or else he would kiss goodbye to ward 10. For now, no better prospective candidate than him has emerged so he is best advised to capitalise on that and start going back to residents of ward 10. He still stands a better chance for re-election though, at least for now!

Ward 7 – Richard Musekiwa 6/10
Richard Musekiwa is quiet but hardworking. His character is close to councillor Chiteme with the MDC-T councillor always asking for clarification during council debates. Musekiwa is not as talkative as other councillors but he believes in doing; less words more action. He initiated quite a number of projects in his ward as well as organising clean-up campaigns to keep the ward clean. Musekiwa however, should improve his participation in council debates so that he can fully represent the interests of ward seven residents. The MDC-T district executive has expressed satisfaction with his work therefore, he might not have any serious challenge to win party primary elections if he still wants to seek re-election in 2018. He however, needs to pull up his socks as strong candidates are already emerging from other political parties.

Ward 1 – Garcia Mundondo 6/10
They call him ‘Goliath of Mucheke’. But those who know the Bible very well would agree with me that Goliath was defeated by a tiny David – a shepherd for that matter! Whether the nickname resembles Mundondo’s good or bad deeds only people from ward one know better. Mundondo has managed to do few projects ranging from chicks donations to assisting at funerals by buying coffins. He also donated to squatters in his ward. In full council meetings, Mundondo has managed to reduce himself to a mere Pastor who would give opening and closing prayers – preferring to remain quiet during debates. As a Pastor, Mundondo should also work on his conduct in public lest he puts the name of his church in disrepute. Thank God he was not in the media for any wrongdoing in the year 2016, maybe it was because journalists were concentrating more on factional wars between Team Lacoste and Generation 40 (G40) in his troubled Zanu PF party.  The ‘Goliath of Mucheke’ might face a mammoth task to retain the ward in 2018, but for now no strong candidate who can dislodge him has emerged.

Ward 5 – Daniel Mberikunashe 5/10
Daniel Mberikunashe was not so active in the past year. He rarely participated in council debates but he should be credited for initiating some projects for women and youth in the ward. Clean-up campaign clubs, organising meetings with various civic organisations to educate residents on different issues. Mberikunashe is a humble leader and that might help him to get re-election.

Ward 2 – Tascicio Mandaba 4/10
But where is Councillor Tascicio Mandaba? What happened to him? He was very energetic when he was elected in 2013 and has done quite a number of projects in ward two. If there is any person who has been seriously affected by the Zanu PF factional wars then surely it is councillor Mandaba – he preferred to hibernate until the winds settle down. But 2018 is fast approaching and Mandaba should show up in the ward and convince the electorate that he deserves another chance come 2018. He should carry on from where he left and, certainly, he will stand a better chance as no strong candidate has emerged so far.

Ward 9 – Babylon Beta 4/10
This reporter struggled to find anything worth mentioning as residents seem not to know much about their councillor. Maybe it was because residents were ignorant or councillor Beta should increase his visibility in the ward. Naturally, Beta is a quiet man and as a result he is less active in council debates. He made one promise; that is, to push for the construction of a clinic in Rhodene. With one year remaining before his term lapses, chances are getting slim that his dream of constructing a clinic would be fulfilled. Ward 9 is a trick ward therefore, I would suggest that Beta concentrates more on giving feedback and listening to issues which he would move motions in the chambers. Beta however, is respected by the MDC-T family due to his sound advices. Our prayers are that he does the same when he is conducting council business.

Ward 3 – James Chiwara 3/10
James Chiwara is the deputy mayor. This reporter is sure MDC-T seconded him to be the deputy mayor basing more on his age and not merits – that is the danger of Zimbabwean politics. But the deputy mayor is the most improved councillor though he still anchors the performance table. He managed to chair few council meetings and even debate in the chambers. Chiwara should however, improve on having feedback meetings with residents. Above all, Chiwara should also monitor his conduct on social media. He knows what I mean!news
