Bikita – Zanu PF Masvingo provincial acting chairperson, Amasa Nhenjana was last week beaten up at a provincial executive meeting in Bikita ahead of Acting President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s visit for a rally to drum up support for their candidate for the January 21 Bikita West parliamentary by election.
The meeting was exclusive to provincial executive members only but the driver of Senator Annah Rungani, Obvious Madzivanyika gate crushed the meeting apparently ‘to report an illegal meeting’ which was being held by children of war veterans.
Nhenjana then told Madzivanyika to go and report the illegal meeting to the police since he had no power to handle the matter.
“We were having a meeting prior to the Acting President’s rally in Bikita. The meeting was for the provincial executive members only. It was not open kune chero huku. Then Madzivanyika came with his hands in his pockets and wanted to get into the meeting.
“He said there was an illegal meeting being held by the war veterans’ children and I told him to go report to the police because I did not have any authority over that. I chased him away from the meeting,” said Nhenjana.
He said Madzivanyika refused to go far from the venue of the meeting and was roaming around making some phone calls but charged at him soon after the meeting.
Nhenjana added that Madzivanyika was send to provoke him so that he would beat him up and get arrested.
“At the end of our meeting, Madzivanyika charged at me and started pocking me in the face and I felt sorry for him because he was drunk otherwise I would have done a lot of damage to him.
“I restrained myself because I knew the guy was send to provoke me. I am a boxer and no ordinary person can stand a chance at a fight with me. He was send by my opponents in the party so that I could beat him up and get arrested,” said Nhenjana.
“This would have been strategic for them because they would tell the Acting President that the chairman is in prison for violence. For all I know the guy is a no body and is not in any of our structures. I heard he is just a driver of senator Rungani.
“I reported him to the police but was not arrested. He is walking free in Bikita because he has some big names protecting him. That was political violence and an assault to the chairman,” Nhenjana added.
He said if the police fail to arrest Madzivanyika he would takes matters into his own hands.
“They think they are clever but I am going to deal with him personally. I am going to damage him and see who will get arrested. The law cannot be applied selectively.
“I will not tell you who these politicians are but I am sure you know the politics of Masvingo. These people are looking for a perfect moment to strike at me but I will not give them the pleasure. Every small thing I do, they report to the superiors,” Nhenjana fumed.news

Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) supporters in Bikita have warned their party leader Morgan Tsvangirai against having a joint rally with the Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) leader, Joice Mujuru, saying they were not yet prepared to campaign for former Zanu PF members who used to unleash violence on them during the previous elections.
A recent survey by this publication revealed that it would be self-defeating for Tsvangirai or MDC-T to officially support the ZimPF candidate; Kudakwashe Gopo.
The MDC-T supporters who spoke mainly on condition of anonymity said they would attend the ZimPF rally if Tsvangirai decides to come but vowed never to vote for Gopo.
“Look we even attended Zanu PF rallies because we do not want to be labelled but at the end of the day we know who to vote for. We are not daft…how can we gladly vote for Makova and his party when he was the one who used to frustrate us since 2000. 
“We shall never support them in Bikita West. All what we will be doing is to attend all their rallies but on 21 January, we either vote for independent candidate or boycott the election,” said an MDCT-T district executive member who refused to be named.
Currently, the district chairman is campaigning for independent candidate Innocent Muzvimbiri while the rest of the executive have remained stuck with their former MP Heya Shoko whom they said was a better devil.
“Our chairman is being influenced by Zaka Sanator Misheck Marava to support Muzvimbiri but we are saying Marava must not come and impose decisions here. The rest of the executive is supporting Heya Shoko because we know him better. We used to be beaten, tortured and maimed by Zanu PF and Shoko was always with us …Shoko understands MDC-T more than all others who are in the race so we shall stand by him,” said one executive member.
However, Gopo is bubbling with confidence saying with or without MDC-T support, he will win the election next week.
“I am waiting to go to parliament. The people here know that Gopo is the MP. I was in Zanu PF so I know all their tricks; they will never cheat or rig in this election because I know the game.
“They wanted to bus people from Gutu to register in some bordering wards but I blocked that move … even the police was shocked by my alertness and I told them that I was fully aware of any dirty trick which could be employed and I will frustrate every effort to rig the election,” said Gopo.
However, MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu said he was not in a position to comment over the issue since Tsvangirai was ‘personally handling the issue.’
“President Morgan Tsvangirai is personally handling all matters relating to coalition discussions. He is an extremely efficient grassroots mobiliser but you should appreciate that he has got a very busy schedule. We are very confident that as part of his coalition deliberations, he will soon be in a position to announce whether or not his tight schedule permits him to travel to Bikita West for a joint rally with Dr. Joice Mujuru,” said Gutu.news

MWENEZI – There was drama at headman Chirimigwa’s court recently when a man dragged his wife to the court accusing her of infidelity after she eloped to South Africa with another man while the husband was also out of the country. 
Douglas Mafuba, who works in South Africa, took his wife Estinah Ngwenya to the community court accusing her of having many boyfriends.
Ngwenya was staying at their rural home in Chirimigwa village under Chief Neshuro in Mwenezi while her husband was at work.
Mafuba told the court that upon his return to South Africa last month, he was shocked to find out that his wife had eloped with another man and had gone to South Africa.
He told the court that he was no longer prepared to live with her because she was using his matrimonial bedroom for adulterous liaisons with different men while he was away.
Ngwenya, however, defended herself before the same court saying Mafuba, whom she said was merely a boyfriend and not her husband, was no longer taking care of her and she decided to move on.
She claimed that their home close to Neshuro growth point, was hers alone.
After full trial, Headman Chirimigwa, with the assistance of his advisors and Chief Neshuro’s representatives, ruled in Mafuba’s favour and insisted that he is the owner of the homestead. 
A miffed Ngwenya, however, vowed to appeal the verdict after gathering enough evidence to prove she is the real owner of the homestead. The appeal is due to be heard at Chief Neshuro’s court this week.
Mafuba and Ngwenya do not have children together but both have got their own children from previous relationships.
The two have been living as husband and wife in Chirimigwa village for the past nine years.news

ZAKA – Victor Zinanga, who has been Zaka’s assistant District Administrator (DA), has been elevated to be acting DA replacing Tapson Chivanga who was transferred to Mvuma.
Busangabanye Malozana, who is the district’s public service inspector, announced the new order in a recent full council meeting.
Chivanga had, however, appointed Charles Jerera, Zaka’s Cultural and Heritage officer as the acting DA, a move that seems to confirm long-held suspicions that there was bad blood between Chivanga and his assistants Zinanga and Gift Machukele, the reason why he overlooked them and appointed Jerera – a junior to the two.
Zinanga has served as the assistant DA for some time, a position he held until his elevation to the acting DA.
Chivanga, who had served in the district for the past five years, bade farewell to Zaka at a party held at Zuma lodge in Zaka a few weeks ago.news

Zaka ward 2 councillor resigns

ZAKA – Councillor Vincent Toranai Chimombe of ward 2, Zaka district, has resigned due to ill health which has seen him having serious trouble with one of his arms.
Chimombe tendered his resignation in writing and the letter was read in a recent full council meeting held two weeks ago in the presence of his council colleagues and members of the public.
In the letter, the councillor indicated that due to poor health, he was no longer able to continue effectively carrying out his duties. 
Council chairperson, Sebastian Musundire later told TellZim News that Councillor Lovemore Makuyana of ward 1 will, for the meantime, assist the people of ward 2 until a by-election is held.
“Councilor Makuyana will assist the people of ward 2 whenever a councillor is needed since he is in a neighbouring ward,” said Musundire.
Last year, Ward 23 councillor Hezekia Rangwani passed on but no by-election was held to replace him.
Amasa Nhenjana, who is now the acting Zanu-PF provincial chairperson, later railroaded Rangwani’s wife, Maria, to finish off her husband’s term.
Nhenjana reportedly claimed that he had consulted the traditional leaders in the ward as well as the party structures and agreed that Maria should finish off the term although many people saw the move as an act of political patronage and abuse of power.
However, Zanu PF is likely to retain the ward in light of the opposition MDC-T and its National Electoral Reform Agenda (Nera) allies’ ‘no reform no election’ stance.news

Dozens of protesting parents besieged Chivhu Primary School last Tuesday after school authorities send back the most of pupils back home for failure to bring school fees and settle fees arrears.
The school opening day protests were triggered by the decision to send back all students who had not brought the new term’s fees and those who had arrears from last term and beyond.
This saw the school remaining with very few pupils as most children are understood to be still struggling to settle their fees obligations.
Parents were however angry that the school had decided to go against government policy that no child can be send back home for failure to pay fees.
“It is bad because this is the first day of the new term. They know that the economy is not performing well,” said one fuming parent.
Sarah Chemvere, another parent, accused the school of defying government directives on non-paying pupils.
“The government said no child should be sent back home for failure to pay,” said Chemvere.
Another parent, however, told TellZim News it was good that the children were sent back as it will jolt parents into taking the issue of fees seriously.
“Most parents had relaxed and they no longer gave priority to their children’s fees. This is good because more parents will pay so that the school can develop,” said the parent.
No comment could be obtained from the school head or the SDC chairperson as they were said to be locked in their offices while the parents demonstrated outside.news

Gweru – A man from Woodlands Park was dragged before Gweru magistrate Musaiona Shortgame for unlawful entry and theft and was slapped with an effective 15 months imprisonment.
Edgar Mangwa (29) was charged for unlawful entry into premises as defined in section 131 of the Criminal Law Codification And Reform Act chapter 9:23 and theft as defined in section  113(a)(b) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act chapter 9:23.
It was the State’s case that on September 13, 2016 at around 1630 hours, Mangwa went to his brother in-law’s house and forced open the door using a screw driver then entered into the house where he took US$70 in cash that was under the blanket.
The complainant’s neighbours, Spiwe Mashini and Simbisai Pfunye testified that they had seen Mangwa coming out of his house holding a screw driver in the hand and a police report was made leading to Mangwa’s arrest.

CHIVHU – With stock theft cases hitting critical levels in the country, juju has been seen as the most suitable alternative to deal with such cases by Cecelia Nhema, a villager in Chipisa area, Chikomba district who says she will use it to get her stolen goats back.
Nhema publicly told vendors at one of the vegetable and fruit market in Chivhu town that she will resort to the use of juju in order to deal with the alleged culprit whom she says is one of her relatives who reside in the same village with her.
“I’m Cecelia, l will deal with him (suspect) accordingly and he will bring them back very soon. I know the suspect and I feel pity for him because I will teach him a lesson,” said Nhema.
Vendors gathered around her and pleaded with her to make a police report but she insisted that she will not report the theft to the police.
“I don’t want my cases to be handled by the police. I will use juju to deal with him. I’m better than the police and I’m tired of people who mess around with my life,” Nhema said boastfully.
A relative to Nhema who preferred anonymity confirmed the case of the theft issue saying the goats were stolen during the night a few days ago.
He described his grandmother as a serious woman who can do whatever it takes to recover her lost property and to punish her offenders when wronged.
“Two goats were stolen a week ago and Gogo is a serious person who can deal with the case on her on but as for me, I don’t have any suspects,” said the relative.news

ZVISHAVANE – It was a sight to see last week along Zvishavane – Buchwa road when a motorist told a traffic officer that he will definitely use juju to fix him after some misunderstanding over road charges, TellZim News can reveal.
The incident happened just outside of Zvishavane and this reporter witnessed the man, driving a Toyota Hilux with South African plates, fuming as he felt he had been over-fined by the ‘overzealous’ officer.
“How can you ask for more than US$30 for one non-functional backlight? Ndirikunokora tsoka dzako nhasi ndonokugadzirisa kun’anga. You act as if you were not raised among Africans. Even the bank is offering very little amount of money and where do you expect us to get that hefty amount you are asking for?” the angry man questioned. 
“I showed you a ticket where I have been charged R1 080 on my way here and you still think I have something to offer. Don’t act as if you are not a father yourself. You know how hard it is to look after family these days,” he grieved.
The officer, together with his colleague, were shocked and delayed to vacate as the man was saying he won’t leave until he collects soil with their footprints.
The motorist remained at the place and took the prints of the officers when they left after a while.
Though some road users at the scene were outraged by the conduct of the police, others expressed disgust at the attitude of the irate motorist.
“The officer is just executing his duties and there is nothing wrong about that. If you want to drive your car around, make sure it is well in required condition to avoid commotion,” said one traveller.
Others, however, said it was the best way to show the police that road users were citizens of the nation and not mobile banks.
“These people think we are mobile banks. They stop you here demanding money and stop you there demanding money. Roadblocks are too close to each other and how do they expect us to have all the money they want?” said another traveller.news

MASVINGO – A one-year-old boy died last Wednesday in Pangolin after he drowned in a bucket which was outside where he was playing while his mother was busy cooking in the kitchen.
The sad incident happened at number 2225/24 Ndangariro Street in the sprawling suburb.
Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, said parents should try to be as close as possible to their kids to avoid such tragic incidents.
“All containers with the capacity of causing fatal incidents to toddlers should be kept in safe environments. All the pits containing water should be covered to ensure safety. Above all, parents should try to stay as close as possible to their children especially during rainy season,” he said.
The late Tamuwanashe Makaranga was busy playing outside with other kids while her mother, Shingairai Makarudze, was preparing food in the kitchen.
It was reported that the boy was playing outside the house when he moved towards the bucket which was full of water in which he fell and drowned.
One of the kids who were also playing outside rushed to inform the mother and he was found dead.news
