Zvishavane Youth Council empowering youth through art

0
Davison Marenga
ZVISHAVANE – With the high prevalence of unemployment in the country, Zvishavane Youth Council (ZYC) has taken the initiative of empowering youth in and around the town with life skills to prevent them from getting into crime.
Volunteers operating with nothing but their few resources are helping the youth to realise their full potential in various aspects of life through art.
A centre run by the ZYC currently offers visual painting, music, and interior deco lessons to youth and is planning to involve more young people from elsewhere.
“Unemployment rates being high, poverty is on the increase, we decided to help so that youth can avoid a life of crime and build a better country,” said the centre’s vice coordinator, Clifford Mugiya.
Bigboy Marenga, a facilitator at the centre, said they want to introduce more disciplines in their programmes for the benefit of more young people.
“I believe we will soon be having a new teacher who will be teaching traditional dance and another one for cultural studies,” said Murenga.
The closure of Shabani Mine and limited employment opportunities from other mines like Mimosa has created big jobless figures leading to desperation and drug abuse among young people.
Situated at the old swimming pool behind Pick n Pay Zvishavane, the centre is seeking for support from well wishers so that they can expand operations.
“We appeal for corporate and individual assistance so that we can implement all the plans we have to give as many young people as possible opportunities that will make them better people.
“This is not a personal venture but a social initiative people for local people. We need to help the youth so that they can realise their dreams in life, I am calling for the business community to help us in this initiative,” said Marenga.entertainment

Things have fallen apart!

Things have fallen apart! Mapombi is not as learned as our Cdes in Zanu PF and government but izvi hazvichada kudzidza izvi – even a dull person can tell kuti nyika yava mamvemve iyi. Mapombi is ever grateful to Zanu PF for one thing – makaita basa makaita kuti ndizivewo nhamo ndaizozivirepi? Urovha, kudya rotten bananas nekurara mumaplastic ndaizozvizivirepiwo ini Mapombi ndakanga ndaendesewawo kuchikoro nevabereki vangu. i could be somewhere else, maybe in one of the offices up there but Zanu PF chiwororo. Kkkkk ndeyeropa zveshuwa! I am really grateful because now I know the other side of life which is punctuated by hunger, unemployment and general poverty. Haaa maoko kuZanu PF and its government haaa muri shasha dzekuuraya economy.
You have failed the nation; Mapombi is very sure this is not what Cdes Herbert Chitepo, Josiah Tongogara and others fought for. Things have just fallen apart and nyika yangova madhende iyi. Being educated or not, it’s now one and the same thing. Chinua Achebe’s novel ‘Things fall apart’ sums up our situation – zvinhu zvava manyama amire nerongo. The economy is biting and they have run out of ideas to an extent that they are thinking of introducing Bond papers – aah are they Bond Papers or Notes? Whatever! Kkkkkkk Dr Mangundya makaitira kupiko PhD yenyu?  UZ? Kkkkkk ask your predecessor Dr Gideon Gono he will tell you more about Zanu PF. Kkkkkk I promise to pay the bear cheque on demand kekekeke seka zvako mwana wekwaChirimudombo. Very soon, this October, we will promise to pay the Bond Note on demand, if there will be anyone to demand it anyway.
Mapombi was however touched by the latest news that government has no money to pay civil servants salaries this month – hanzi ruzhinji rwava kutozowana mari next month except for those vanoshanda kubasa kune pfuti chete hanzi ndivo vachapiwa this week nekuti vanotyisa hurumende. Kkkkkk zvakaoma! Ugoona I almost joined kuarmy uko but my parents discouraged me saying ungapinda basa nekumhanya here enda undoitawo degree. I’m sure my parents regret the decision because now Im stuck here at Dr Grace Trading Centre surviving on rotten bananas. I sleep at the open and cover myself with plastics. But one thing that at least make me smile and feel comfortable with my situation is that the majority of vendors have degrees. Akomana kuita Masters degree in Business Adminstration yekuzotengesa airtime paPick and Pay apo? Honours Degree in Accounting kuzotengesa mabanana paOK Supermarket? Kkkkk but Zanu PF ka! After that you brag that we have the highest literacy rate in Africa and, as if that is not enough, you brag that you have created over two million jobs.
The problem is that we do not have a strong opposition party in this country – Morgan Tsvangirai has become legend of the parks and is allergic to sleeping alone – hanzi Save ihove ikagara pasina mvura inofa. Vakarara pasina mukadzi padhuze vanoita hope dzemadzikirira. Kkkkkk ungachidii chematama? Hapana. But I still remembered Tsvangirai’s speech he delivered at Mucheke Stadium in 2003 when he was still serious about taking Mugabe head-on. ‘Hanzi muri kutaura nyaya yekushaya chikafu? Muchashayisisa chaizvo kusvika maziva pekuvhotera.’ Kkkkkkk chaimbotaura wena Teaboy.
But at least we enjoyed during the inclusive government and we thank Tsvangirai for that. Had it not been you and the MDC zvingadaro takapera kufa kare. Mapombi however, has pinned a lot of hope on Dr Joice Mujuru of the Zimbabwe People First come 2018. Hameno pamwe kungofarira n’anga neinondobata mai! Anyway, Mapombi is considering being a registered voter, and come 2018, I will cast my vote. Who I will vote for only God knows but certainly I will not have the courage and guts to put my X on a centurion. Never!
Mapombi is not as heartless as those Cdes who continue to push President Robert Mugabe to remain in office. Kkkkkk zvimwe muchiti munotamba chokwadi. Or is it him who is refusing to vacate office? I am sure War Vets know better on that one. The problem with dictators is that they think they are the best leaders ever and no one can do much better than them. Anyway I don’t know much about dictators because the only dictator I knew the whole of my life was Mamar Gadaffi the late Lybian President – may his soul rest in eternal peace! E-eh e-eh vafunga zvavafunga musade kuhwanda naMapombi pliz pliz. I have made it clear that the only dictator I knew was Gadaffi. Period! Izvo zvamava kutaura izvo ini handipo.
But, of late, Mapombi is forming an alliance with the war vets these days. Kkkkkk I salute the war vets – in fact Mapombi is working on a national pledge inenge ichingorumbidza nekutenda maWar vets edu. of course the pledge will be totally different from yaDofora iye – aah I mean Dr Dokora mhani. Cde Victor Matemadanda, Chris Mutsvangwa, Black Jesus and vaMahiya zviri sei? Kkkkk tinayewo wedu Jesu mutema mungatidii?
Honestly, I respect these Cdes – they died for this country. They are gentlemen havavanzi. They want Ngwena and they are too blunt. Even Mugabe tried to silence them but in vain. Mungamadii maWar vets – hapana ende hapana! They have spoken and who am I to say no to Ngwena? Generally Mapombi has very little, if there is any to appreciate from Zanu PF, but pana Ngwena tinowirirana maCdes!
Mapombi is equally educated as our Cdes in Zanu PF and government – e-eh tinawovo maPhD aya (UZ). Kutyei!  But the truth is hapana zvinozivikanwa nevarume nevakadzi ava – Mapombi is a gentleman handivanzi. Mapombi has since resolved that she will only respect maWar Vets. Kkkkkk if you are not War Vet please forget! I mean kanganwai zvenyu – chero mukawana ndichidya my rotten bananas handikupei. Even if you march against me I don’t care!
Aah it’s almost lunch time ndichingohumana zvangu let me go ndinokanga maputi angu for lunch. But just a quick one – how can I get to Ngwena maCdes? I have a word or two of advice pane zvandakarotswa kkkkkk kurota achibvutirwa chigaro neMuzezuru kkkkkk kuda ihope dzechando nekuti sandinyore kurara mumaplastic vakomana. Thank you Zanu PF dai musipo nhamo yakadai taizoionerawo kupi. Haa muri shasha ndibatei ruoko. By the way, did Mpokho vacate the hotel room? Mapombi heard vakaramba kugara dzimwe dzimba vachiti dzakashata kkkkkkkk baba vangu iwe chirungu hachide kubatira pamusoro ichi. Maimbogara yakadiiko musati manzwirwawo tsitsi naPresident? Tiitirei mushe apa mukupedza mari dzema civil servants apa nezvinoitiwa hapana. Nxaaa! Mboko imboko!Mapombi

Junior driving introduces class 1 lessons

The ‘Oxford University’ of all driving schools, Junior Driving, has finally delivered to the calling from various stakeholders by introducing the much awaited class 1 driving lessons beginning from next week.
Junior Driving School Director Noah Marima said they have responded to the inquiries which have been made by the community to provide lessons of all classes.
“We have purchased a Yutong bus which is expected to arrive in the country any time soon. Many people approached us with suggestions regarding class 1 lessons and we finally delivered on that call. We have also introduced Class 3 lessons.
“I assure all our valued clients that starting July, the class 1 lessons will be available. We will be having a full house since all classes are being taught. All people who are serious about driving should visit our offices and we are there to assist them become their own drivers. With us, getting license for any class is very much possible,” said Marima.
He said even the disabled people can now smile since Junior Driving now has automatic vehicles to help them acquire their own driver’s licences.
Junior Driving School also offers lessons to physically challenged people who will then use automatic vehicles for VID testing.
Physically challenged people are therefore encouraged to utilise the opportunity.
In Masvingo, class 1 lessons were only offered by the Central Mechanical and Equipment Department (CMED) which had a lot of pressure due to high demand. Junior Driving will ease that pressure with even more competitive rates.news

Shock as brothers behead father over donkey dispute

0
Increase Gumbo
CHIREDZI – In an incident that has left Chilonga residents shell-shocked, two brothers from Chirove village in Malisanga allegedly connived to murder and decapitate their father, Zavhu Mugwambami, following a family misunderstanding over donkeys recently.
Masvingo Provincial Police spokesperson, Inspector Charity Mazula, as all always, professed ignorance over the matter saying TellZim News should notify her that it has a reporter in Chiredzi before she can comment on the matter.
However, Shepherd Chirove, who is a nephew to the deceased, said the dispute reportedly erupted after Mugwambami asked one of his sons, Ketai, to sell one of his cattle and buy donkeys that they could use to pull a scotch-cart as they reaped their sorghum from the fields.
“We only heard that Ketai rejected his father’s advice and got into a dispute with him,” said Chirove, adding that the boys had harboured a grudge against Mugwambami after he got into a habit of beating up their mother after he had married a second wife.
He said the two sons and their father later went to the fields to harvest sorghum where the dispute resumed.
That is when the two sons are said to have returned home and warned their mother that Mugwambani was so angry with everybody that she would better spend the night at their uncle’s place to avoid trouble.
When their mother left, the two sons are said to have returned to the fields where they beat up their father and chopped off his head.
When the deceased’s uncle realised that Mugwambami had not returned home from the fields, he went out to investigate, only to find the motionless body with the chopped head covered by a cap.
The case was reported to Ndali police station but the officers failed to attend the scene saying they had no vehicle. The matter is now being investigated by CID Chiredzi and the two brothers have since been arrested.news

MDC-T national youth chair up for treason

0
Upenyu Chaota
MASVINGO – The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) National Youth boss Happymore ‘Cde Bvondo’ Chidziva was last week arrested and charged with incitement and treason after surrendering himself at Masvingo Central police station.
He was however released the same day as police claim that they want to do further investigations.
Chidziva was on police wanted list for over two months before finally handing himself to the police after reportedly evading them for that long.
He is alleged to have incited people in Gutu to grab food aid which he claimed was being distributed by the government along partisan lines with opposition sympathisers being left out.
The treason charge stems from a youth meeting he addressed in Chiredzi last month where he allegedly threatened to remove President Robert Mugabe from power by force.
A defiant Chidziva told TellZim News that police were just being used by Zanu PF to derail the ‘train of change’ which he said has already taken off.
“I heard the Masvingo police were looking for me and I decided to pay them a visit to clarify the matter. They levelled atrocious charges against me but all in bad taste.
“Zanu PF is trying to use all apparatus at its disposal to slow us down from mobilising the masses. They think if they have me arrested, I will get intimidated and stop my job of making sure that president Morgan Tsvangirai takes his rightful position at State house. They can slow the process but never stop us.
“We will never remove Mugabe from power by force. We mobilise people to register and vote; it is the force of their votes which will send Mugabe packing. I guess they may have misconstrued that part. They even released me because they had no genuine case against me,” said Chidziva.news

Masvingo to march against government misrule

Itai Muzondo
MASVINGO – The anti-government mood currently sweeping the country has reached Masvingo with local pressure groups recently getting court clearance to march in protest against the worsening economic and political situation in the country.
Anoziva Muguti of the Masvingo United Residents and Ratepayers Association (Murra) said the demonstration, which was originally scheduled for last Saturday, has been postponed due to late release of clearance by the courts.
“It’s true, as citizens we have seen it fit to rise against bad governance which has long affected Masvingo and the nation at large. We were scheduled to demonstrate last week but we have since postponed the march.
“Some of our members were not comfortable demonstrating considering that we had been denied police clearance and had to make an urgent application at the court. We will quickly meet this week and decide on another date,” Muguti said.
The organisers said they wish to petition the Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs, Shuvai Mahofa on issues like rampant unemployment, corruption, cash crisis, endless police road blocks, spot fines and the inhuman treatment of Tokwe Mkosi floods victims.
“Government should adopt investor friendly policies and ensure that the indigenisation policy does not threaten investment so as to boost industrial development. Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) must lower taxation and punitive measures that have crippled young entrepreneurs. This must be done as early as yesterday.
“Government should curb corruption, spot fines must be erased, and fines have to be paid at the police station. The number of roadblocks should also be reduced and must be done at safe places,” read part of the draft petition.
Organisations taking part in the march include Community Tolerance Reconciliation and Development Trust (COTRAD), Masvingo United Residents and Ratepayers Association (MURRA), ZimRights, Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ), Masvingo Residents Trust (MRT), Community Working Group on Health, Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU), (MCRA), (ZIMSET) and Masvingo Vendors Association.news

Masvingo residents, councillors reject Local Governance Bill

0

Itai Muzondo
MASVINGO – With residents of Masvingo voicing opposition to the Local Governance Amendment Bill, councillors in the city have also come on board and rejected the controversial bill saying it vests too much power in the local governance minister.
The Bill seeks to, among other things, provide for the suspension and expulsion of elected council office bearers by the responsible minister.
Most residents who attended a parliamentary outreach programme at Mucheke Hall last week said the bill did not reflect the need to serve the people.
The councillors have also argued that the proposed bill was bad as it gave the minister too much power in the running of local authorities.
“The Bill is not good at all since it subjects council to dictates from the minister,” Masvingo Deputy Mayor and Ward 3 councillor James Chiwara said.
Chiwara’s opinion was echoed by Ward 9 councillor, Babylon Beta.
“This proposed bill is just based on giving the minister power to remote control all council business,” Beta said.
Ward 7 councillor Richard Musekiwa said the proposed amendments were aimed at giving control to one person with no regard for service delivery.
“I thought the bill will be focused on improving service delivery. Instead, the bill tries to pave way for political wars,” said Musekiwa.
Against Chiteme of Ward 8 said the bill was designed to reverse the democratic choices of the people.
“Why should a bill try to challenge what the people would have said? If parliament passes the bill, the electoral system would then have to be abolished since all the power would be in the hands of one individual,” Chiteme said.
Residents rejected the bill saying government wants to hand-pick its people to run councils as the incumbent Minister of Local Governance, Savior Kasukuwere is attempting to do at Harare and Gweru city councils.
“We are against it as it is ultra vires the constitution. We don’t want the minister to have too many powers over elected council officials. A tribunal appointed by the Minister can never be independent so as residents, we are against the whole bill,” said a Mucheke resident.news

Chiredzi Registrar General Masara collapses, dies

CHIREDZI – There was shock and bewilderment last week after revelations that the Chiredzi Registrar General, Francis Masara had collapsed and died while watching soccer at his home.
Masara, who was 54, died at around 20:00 hours on Wednesday last week.
Family spokesperson and uncle to the deceased, Joseph Masara confirmed the incident and said that Masara collapsed while he was watching soccer together with his son Tinashe on Wednesday evening.
“We are saddened by the untimely death of our son Francis who collapsed on Wednesday when he was just watching television with his son Tinashe.”
He said Masara had a history of heart problems but they were shocked when they learnt that he was no more as he had never been hospitalised or complained of any pains of late.
“The way it happened has shocked us. He was at home with his son and his wife was away in South Africa by the time of his death,” said Joseph.
Masara’s body was taken to his house in Gutu where he worked in a similar position for 15 years before it was taken to Marondera in Svosve communal lands where he was laid to rest on Saturday morning.
Masara is survived by his wife Francisca, two sons Tinashe and Tafadzwa and daughter Mavis.
Masara joined Chiredzi registrar’s office in 2009 after working in Gutu and Chipinge for several years.
He was described as a hardworking humble person who was passionate about his job.news

Council owed over 100k in rental arrears

0
Itai Muzondo
MASVINGO – Businesses that have been leasing properties of Masvingo City Council over the past year are struggling to pay their monthly rentals with money owed to council now standing at US$135 908.38.
In 2015, city fathers reached a resolution to lease out some of its properties, mainly council bars, which were making an average loss of US$11 000 per month.
TellZim News is reliably informed that council has since decided to reduce the rentals on condition that debtors sign debt acknowledgements and draw acceptable payment plans for outstanding debts.
“The Deputy Director of Housing and Community Services reported that the prevailing harsh economic climate had put serious challenges on tenants leasing council properties regarding payment of rentals hence need to review rentals downwards since it made no economic sense to continue raising bills which are not sustainable,” reads part of recent council minutes.
Of the 14 properties being leased, Kubatana Preschool is the biggest debtor owing US50, 069.31 while Caravan Park follows at US$23, 009.44.
Sunshine Day Care Centre owes US$18, 036.31 while Chiwororo Beerhall owes US$13, 162.00 with Manhede Beer hall following at US$10, 899.31.
Businesses that owe the least money are First Funeral, Compass Pvt Ltd, Lot 19 Car Park, Sarudzai Beerhall, Lot 37 Car Park, Rujeko Crime Consultative (ZRP) and Lot 45 Car Park owing US9078.93, US$8,280.19; US$1,164.00; US$1,391.24; US$380; US$255.64; US$192 respectively.
With no arrears are Lot 27 Car Park and Farai Beerhall which has no tenant.
If a newly proposed Finance and General Purposes Committee resolution passes, the new rental structures will stand as follows: Caravan Park from US$2 800 to US$1 400; Chiwororo Beerhall from US$1 700 to US$1 000, Manhede Beerhall from US$2 200 to US$1 200; Sarudzai Beerhall from US$3 000 to US$ 1 500 and Farai Beerhall from US$3 000 to U$1 500 per month.
Sunshine Day Care Centre will have their rentals reduced from US$ 900 to US$500; First Funeral from US$1 000 to US$500; Kubatana Pre-School from US$500 to US$250; Rujeko Consultative Committee from US$250 to US$200 and Compass Pvt Ltd from US$300 to US$200.
Indications are that the problematic People’s Shop lease will not be renewed while rentals for all car parks will be reduced to a uniform US$200 per month.news
