CHIREDZI – In an incident that has left Chilonga residents shell-shocked, two brothers from Chirove village in Malisanga allegedly connived to murder and decapitate their father, Zavhu Mugwambami, following a family misunderstanding over donkeys recently.
Masvingo Provincial Police spokesperson, Inspector Charity Mazula, as all always, professed ignorance over the matter saying TellZim News should notify her that it has a reporter in Chiredzi before she can comment on the matter.
However, Shepherd Chirove, who is a nephew to the deceased, said the dispute reportedly erupted after Mugwambami asked one of his sons, Ketai, to sell one of his cattle and buy donkeys that they could use to pull a scotch-cart as they reaped their sorghum from the fields.
“We only heard that Ketai rejected his father’s advice and got into a dispute with him,” said Chirove, adding that the boys had harboured a grudge against Mugwambami after he got into a habit of beating up their mother after he had married a second wife.
He said the two sons and their father later went to the fields to harvest sorghum where the dispute resumed.
That is when the two sons are said to have returned home and warned their mother that Mugwambani was so angry with everybody that she would better spend the night at their uncle’s place to avoid trouble.
When their mother left, the two sons are said to have returned to the fields where they beat up their father and chopped off his head.
When the deceased’s uncle realised that Mugwambami had not returned home from the fields, he went out to investigate, only to find the motionless body with the chopped head covered by a cap.
The case was reported to Ndali police station but the officers failed to attend the scene saying they had no vehicle. The matter is now being investigated by CID Chiredzi and the two brothers have since been arrested.news
