Gweru- After a resounding win at the recently held Gokwe – Kabuyuni legislative elections by ruling party ZANU-PF representative Spenser Tshuma ,Citizen Coalition for Change party leader Nelson Chamisa congratulated the ruling party with a bitter tone citing that the elections results were a product of fear, coercion and favor.
CCC representative Costin Muguti fell too short as he registered 4800 votes in comparison to a ginormous 10 727 votes for ZANU-PF contender Tshuma.
Opposition party leader Nelson Chamisa took to Twitter citing that the election result was a product of bogus and idiosyncratic means by ZANU-PF who went as far as encompassing traditional leaders in its shenanigans.
“A salute to brave citizens and change champions in Gokwe-Kabuyuni. This was a good fight, a learning moment and it’s a process. We are doing well against all odds. We continue excelling. We must deal with fear, forced voting, and abuse of traditional leaders. We will win big,” read the tweet.
The death of Leonard Chikomba in a car accident steered the legislative run as the seat had fallen vacant.
Citizen Coalition for Change, Midlands Chairman, Josiah Makombe however bemoaned acts of violence which erupted last week ahead of CCC president, Nelson Chamisa’ s rally which was scheduled to strengthen the electorate in Gokwe Kabuyuni.
Speaking to TellZim News Makombe said it was disturbing to note the use of violence at the expense of suffering citizens.
He further said some of the CCC members were still admitted after sustaining injuries from the clash.
“Yes it’s correct what the media picked, we had a situation where our members were attacked in a violent clash. We first thought it was being done by youth but it was disturbing to note that it was ZANU PF senior party members who were involved and their crew.
“It was just unbelievable that such senior people were seen blocking the road for Chamisa. It’s unfortunate some of our members got injured and they are currently admitted at a local hospital.
“We strongly condemn any act of violent in this region and country, why not come and have a free and fair campaign? The reason why they engaged in violence was the fear that CCC was going to emerge victorious.
“As a party we believe in change and people are the ones who decide for themselves. Gokwe Kabuyuni is a very remote area, people don’t have much to talk about there, the infrastructure is bad, no roads, no clinics, and no clean water. It’s just sad. The tactics which were used last week were bad and it’s uncalled for,” he added.
