03 Feb 2017 – A critically ill Modie Chirunda, who is suffering from cervical cancer, has pleaded with well-wishers to help her meet the treatment costs and other daily costs of living with the condition.
The 51-year-old Chirinda comes from Svuure village, under Chief Bota in Zaka, Masvingo province.
She was diagnosed with cervical cancer at Parirenyatwa Hospital back in 2011 after experiencing the symptoms and seeking help at local clinics.
It was, however, Ndanga Hospital in Zaka which referred her to Harare Hospital from where she was later referred to Parirenyatwa.
She then underwent the colposcopy procedure and her biopsy came back positive, meaning that her cervical cells had become abnormal.
“I have to undergo chemotherapy twice a month and I also have to buy adult diapers all the time as well as betadine bath. I don’t have the means to get all the money that is required and I am often in pain.
“I haven’t settled all my bills at Parirenyatwa. They are now threatening to send me debt collectors,” Chirinda told TellZim News in an interview recently.
She also revealed that it costs US$75 for her to undergo a single chemotherapy session at the hospital.
“I also have to find transport money to travel to and from Harare for the treatment. The diapers cost US$10 for a packet of 10 which is not even enough to last me for a week,” said Chirinda.
Those who want to help Chirinda can contact her at her number 0778 908 602 or can contact TellZim News.news
