MUTARE – A 17-year-old teenage boy from Kusena village under Chief Marange in Chipinge was last week arrested for allegedly raping his two-year-old niece.
Manicaland police spokesperson Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa confirmed the case.
It is alleged that on the fateful day, the mother of the toddler had gone to attend a meeting at a nearby school leaving the two at home.
The teen called the child into the kitchen hut where he allegedly raped her once at around 14:00 hrs.
A neighbour who visited the place found the accused assisting the toddler to wear her panties. The neighbour then carried the bleeding child to her place and she later alerted the mother of the complainant who then reported the matter to the police leading to the juvenile’s arrest.
Inspector Kakohwa urged mothers to take care of their girl children and not to leave them with male relatives.
Meanwhile a 14-year-old girl from Nyamazira village under Chief Chikore in Rusape was last week raped allegedly by her 52-year-old neighbor.
Circumstances are that the complainant’s mother left the girl alone at home and went to Nyamazira Shopping Centre.
The accused person, Happymore Sanyangare approached the girl and requested for an empty coca-cola bottle. The girl entered the hut to collect the bottle but Sanyangare followed her and pushed her to the ground before allegedly raping her once and running away.
The girl later on revealed the matter to her mother and a police report was made. The rapist was still at large by the time of writing and police are appealing to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect to come forward.local
