The Chirumanzu South Citizens Coalitions for Change (CCC) members who were arrested last week for assault and malicious damage to property were granted bail by Gweru Magistrate Banda on June 7, 2023.
The six members who include Chirumanzu South CCC aspiring member of parliament Patrick Cheza, Tinashe Moyo (47), Elias Madhuviko (26) , Tanyaradzwa Calisto Marimbe(23) Christopher Mutoboni and Alex Gamuchirai (37) will each pay ZWL$50 000 bail.
The charges were that on May 31, 2023 at around 1100 hours the two accused persons arrived at Mazvimba Primary School gate where they saw the complainant Julius Kunodziya who resides at Gumbai Village Headman Manhovo Chief Chirumanzu and demanded to know what he was writing about.
The accused persons then proceeded and grabbed books from Kunodziya and tore one counter book into two pieces before leaving the scene.
In yet another incident, on the same day, Cheza proceeded to Govere Primary School where there was a Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) voter’s roll inspection point together with Moyo, Madhuviko, Marimbe and Gamuchirai where they had an altercation with Phillimon Madzivanyika from Kombayi Village.
It is reported that the accused persons approached Madzivanyika and asked what he was doing at the inspection station before grabbing him by the belt and smashing his Itel cellphone and throwing it to the ground breaking the back cover.
The value of the damaged cover is US $3.
In yet another incident, accused persons proceeded to Rupepwe Primary School where there was another voter inspection point where they assaulted Justice Dzaguma of Dzaguma Village Headman Govere in Chirumanzu.
It is reported that the accused persons arrived at the school in a black Mitsubishi Colt vehicle and asked the complainant what he was doing at the inspection station centre before assaulting the latter with open hands and booted feet all over the body.
At about 1630 hours the gang proceeded to another voter inspection centre, Shashe Primary school where they assaulted 64 year old Nhamo Muzembi.
It is alleged that the accused persons approached the complainant and grabbed Muzembi by the belt and struck him twice on the left leg with a knee while the other accused was holding bricks threatening to attack the complainant.
The accused persons then allegedly took a wallet containing US $50, an Econet sim card, POSB bank card and a ZANU PF membership card before going away making the total value of goods stolen US $60.
The accused persons further assaulted Abigail Madhabha on the same day at around 1650 hours at Mashamba Primary School at yet another voter inspection point.
The accused persons approached the complainant and asked her what she was doing at the inspection point before slapping her twice on the neck and instructing her to leave the premises.
The accused person sustained a swollen neck.
