GWERU – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has urged the media to highlight what he called were the country’s enormous strides in scientific development, saying people should be encouraged to be innovative.
Speaking at the official opening of an incubation hub at Midlands State University (MSU) on June 06, Mnangagwa said technological developments happening at community level ought to be celebrated.
“I challenge you reporters and media houses you standing in front to report on scientific developments from district up to national level as no one should be left in our quest for transformation and economic growth.
“It is important to develop communication strategies to enhance the application of science, technology and innovation to contribute to sustainable development and economic growth,” said Mnangagwa.
He applauded MSU for facilitating construction of the research centre, saying the place should benefit the academia, business and the wider community.
“I commend the Midlands State University for the timely construction of the incubation hub as our business environment is constantly shifting. This facility should benefit the academia, the business community and the community around this institution. You must open doors for them and allow them to bring in their innovations and ideas.
“Furthermore, let’s recognise the need to protect our indigenous knowledge systems and develop human resources capacities in sciences as well,” said Mnangagwa.
He further called for the recognition of people with talent in innovation, saying such people were capable of providing smart solutions to challenges facing the country.
