01 March 2017, BIKITA – Former Bikita RDC CEO Johnson Bigger Mpamhadzi was last week sentenced to six months imprisonment or pay an alternative US$400 fine after he was convicted of culpable homicide following his involvement in a road accident which killed two children last year.
Mpamhadzi appeared before Bikita Resident Magistrate Caroline Tafira facing charges of culpable homicide.
The State led by Richard Nyamuomba alleged that on the April 29, 2016 at around 15:30 hrs, Mpamhadzi was driving along Mutare-Masvingo road.
Towards Nyika Growth Point, on reaching the 212 km peg, he saw a pedestrian, Ronald Munyeperi, trying to cross the road from left to right where his two friends Liliosa Chikozho and Brian Mauya were standing.
Mpamhadzi then lost control of the vehicle, swerved to the right and in the process hitting Munyeperi, Chikozho and Mauya who all fell to the ground.
Munyeperi died on the spot while Chikozho was pronounced dead upon arrival at Nyika clinic.
A report was made at ZRP Bikita Traffic and police attended the scene.
The vehicle sustained a damaged front at the bonnet and it was taken to ZRP Nyika for examination.
The State argued a case of negligent driving on the part of Mpamadzi, saying he was speeding and had failed to exercise high degree of caution when he saw the children playing close to the road.local
