Mutero Football Club from Gutu District has made history by becoming the first team with a completely rural background to qualify to play in the Eastern Region Division 1.
Bankrolled by prominent Harare lawyer Ostern Mutero, who plies his trade with Sawyer and Mkushi, the team draws its players from among the school leavers in the village from which it drives its name and its environs.
The team did not play very well in the first half of its only season in Division 2 but went on to become a force to reckon with after roping in players from the nearby Dewure High School. Dewure is a soccer powerhouse that is known nationally as they have participated in a number of national competitions, including the NASH Coca Cola tournament. They have a picked a number of silver pieces in the process.

The players recruited from Dewure changed the fortunes of the team which had suffered severe defeats at the hands of well seasoned teams like 4 Brigade based Lions Football Club.  The team woke up from its slumber and went on to win the promotion playoffs that were held in Hippo Valley.
Mutero promised that he would go out of his way to ensure that the team survived in Division One even if nit me4asnt dipping into his wallet to lure more seasoned into the team which currently retains the players who played last year.Sport
