03 April 2017, MASVINGO – Great Zimbabwe University (GZU)’s 10 member Team Fusion band have struck the right chords with their debut album ‘Dangwe’ which was released a few weeks ago.
The album has attracted considerable attention from music lovers and is also receiving a fair share of airplay on national radio stations.
With tracks that include Sweet true love, Only you, Chipo ichi, Nyarara kuchema, Sekai, the album tackles social issues like love and the plight of the girl child.
Band director, Shadreck Dzingai told TellZim News he was satisfied by the efforts put to produce the music and was happy with how it has been received on the market.
“Many people never expected us to produce something so impressive; an album that is helping to reflect the academic excellence that GZU prides itself in. We are happy with the airplay we are getting on national radio,” said Dzingai.
He also said the album was an important pacesetter which will inspire them to continue demonstrating their knowledge by producing tangible products.
“We have started receiving calls for show bookings and we will consider weekend shows that do not interfere with our students’ studies,” said Dzingai.
He thanked GZU Vice Chancellor and his leadership team for the support they received from the time of recording up until the album’s release.
“Professor Zvobgo raised our moral and has always been had the most encouraging words for us. As a group, we are happy that we have delivered something that supports the university’s niche area of arts, culture and heritage,” he said.
The band has five music students Lynn Togarasei, Ignatius Gwengweni, Nyasha Warinda, Chipo Nyambiya and Wellington Mtigwa.
The other five students; Ritchmore Chiteve, Pamela Makunike, Rutendo Rori, Ruvimbo Pangwai and Isaac Matambo afre pursuing different other degree programmes.
The album was recorded at Vialy studios in Harare and was produced by Munyaradzi “Vialy” Viya.entertainment
