A juvenile died on the spot while eight others were seriously injured and hospitalized when a Honda Fit they were travelling in was involved in an accident along Chivhu-Roy road on April 17, 2024.
Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident and urged drivers to exercise caution on the roads to reduce accidents.
He said drivers should avoid overloading and speeding when driving.
“We have a report of a traffic accident where a juvenile died while eight other were injured along Chivhu–Roy road. We implore motorists to observe all traffic laws and regulations as they travel to different destinations, overloading and speeding are serious offences in terms of the law hence we implore drivers and operators to be exemplary by being responsible on the roads,” said Dehwa.
Dhewa said drivers must desist from driving under the influence of alcohol as this often lead to accidents, urging public service operators and private motorists to desist from using unroadworthy vehicles in a bid to make profits.
“Drinking alcohol is dangerous when driving because most drivers lose control when drunk, drivers should check the roadworthiness of their vehicles before embarking on journeys.
“Police will not hesitate to impound all defective and unroadworthy vehicles. They will arrest all drivers who flout the rules of the road; we entreat public service operators to avoid overburdening drivers by carrying out extra trips as fatigue will catch up with them leading to accidents,” said Dhewa.
