MDC Alliance strengthens hold on Zvishavane council

ZVISHAVANE – The MDC Alliance has increased its number of seats in the Zvishavane Town Council after garnering seven out of 10 wards in last week’s harmonised elections.
The opposition MDC-T had six councillors in the previous council.
The new councillors are Takarangana Keta (Ward 1), Patson Taruvinga (Ward 2); Fatima Phiri (Ward 3); Charity Majama (Ward 4); Itai Pasira (Ward 8); Khulekani Ndlovu (Ward 9) and Andria Banda (Ward 10).
The ruling Zanu PF was successful in the rest of the wards; Jose Ferreira (Ward 6); Mike Jaravaza (Ward 7) and Tinashe Mago (Ward 5).
The previous council was often affected by gross interference by former Local Government minister, Saviour Kasukuwere who once suspended town chairperson, Esau Gwatipedza Dube.
Kasukuwere’s overbearing influence in the affairs of the council, especially targeting MDC-T councillors, is partly blamed for the extremely poor service delivery in the town.local
