MASVINGO – The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) is on a door-to-door campaign in Masvingo urban mobilising people for a massive demonstration set for August 3, 2016, over ever-deteriorating economy and living standards.
MDC-T supporters went door-to-door in Rhodene, city centre and parts of Mucheke high density suburb distributing fliers and mobilising residents to come in their numbers for the demonstration slated for next week.
The MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai, who has been out of action recuperating from colon cancer, has bounced back and is expected to lead the Masvingo demonstration against president Robert Mugabe’s misrule.
MDC-T Masvingo provincial chairperson James Gumbi said they are already in full swing mobilising people to attend the demonstration.
“In Bulawayo and Mutare people turned out in their numbers to express their dissatisfaction over Zanu-PF misrule. Even though president Tsvangirai was not leading the protestors because of the unfortunate ailment, the demonstrations were very successful.
“In Masvingo we are expecting a much bigger crowd since the president will be leading the people. We are saying enough is enough. Zanu-PF has trampled upon us for a very long time and we cannot endure it anymore,” said Gumbi.
He said the majority of Zimbabweans have lost hope in the government which has showed gross mismanagement and corruption.
“Corruption and greed have taken over and no one cares what happens to the ordinary folk. As MDC we say that must stop; about $15 billion went missing and now they are struggling to pay civil servants. People are unemployed and industries are shutting down.
“They (government) have made policies which have paralysed the economy and no one wants to come and invest with us,” said Gumbi.
Ten days after the Masvingo demonstration, Tsvangirai will lead another anti-Zanu-PF demonstration in Gweru on August 13.news
