19 Feb 2017 – Shabani Football Club, which was recently promoted back into the Premier Soccer League (PSL), have appointed former Chicken Inn gaffer, Mandla Mpofu, as their substantive coach.
When contacted for comment on the new move, Mpofu refered all questions to the executive committee of Shabani FC.
The team’s executive chairperson, Elias Marufu confirmed the development saying he was happy that Mpofu has been entrusted with the role of pushing the club forward.
“Yes, Mandla is our new coach and we have given him a three-year contract. Normally, we give coaches a lengthy contract so that they can build the team the best way they can.
“The coach may want to groom his players so if you give him a short period, he may not be able to do that,” said Marufu.
Team manager Brian Magwizi said all logistics for the new coach are being put in place to ensure that the new coach assumes office smoothly.
“We are just sorting out the accommodation for our coach and after that, he can start work. Right now, he is still in Bulawayo but he will be here very soon,” said Magwizi.
Asked about the preseason training programme and the new signings that Bvaru Bvaru intends to make, Magwizi said he will leave everything to be answered by the new coach.
“The coach is the best person to answer that one my brother. He is the one who knows the type of players he wants,” Magwizi said.
The coaching post at Bvaru Bvaru became vacant after Tendai Chikuni left the club and found a new home at the Air Force side; Chapungu FC based in Gweru.sport
