ZAKA – Zanu PF Masvingo provincial chairperson Amasa Nhenjana last week told Zaka district party leaders that Mugabe is going to leave the presidential office only after his death.
Addressing party leaders in Jerera during an inter-district meeting, Nhenjana said Mugabe is the party’s candidate for 2018.
“As long as he is still breathing, we will carry him to wherever he is needed and he will only leave that office after his death,” said Nhenjana.
His words may, however, displease influential First Lady Grace Mugabe who recently declared that President Mugabe will rule from the grave.
The party leadership agreed that the first resolution at the conference will be to endorse Mugabe as the first secretary, the only centre of power and the 2018 presidential candidate.
Nhenjana confirmed that there were divisions in the party but people were supposed to work together if elections were to be won.
“You hear on radio and read in newspapers that the party is divided but you don’t have to engage in those divisions. I know you have your own differences but let’s work together for the good of the party,” Nhenjana said.
He urged members to recruit newly married people from other districts and school children who have just completed their ordinary level into the party.
“Don’t just be happy that you have a new bride and you give her some money without making sure that she is eligible to vote and that she is in the party,” he said.
Attendants, however, castigated the imposition of candidates as cancerous.
The youth said Zanu PF’s survival was based on rural people who should be given residential stands as those who live in towns.
Zaka North Legislator Robson Mavhenyengwa said it was not fair for people to start campaigning for posts that are not yet vacant, highlighting his fear of Alson Darikai who is campaigning to take over the seat.
“It’s not good to start to campaign for Nhenjana’s position or my seat while I am still there,” said Mavhenyengwa.
