ZAKA – Preparations for the launch of the Zuma – Zaka Arts, Culture and Heritage Festival, which is set to be held on December 15 this year at Zuma Lodge, are at an advanced stage.
Running under the theme ‘Transforming Communities Through Arts and Cultural Heritage’, the festival is meant to promote talent identification and development among school children.
The festival will be the first of its kind in the district which is generally regarded as culturally rich yet underexploited.
Rungano Munyariwa, who is the director of Zuma Lodge and coordinator of the festival, said the event is meant to promote and resuscitate near extinct cultural values and practices.
Various cultural performances have been lined up and artists from across the country will be performing.
The festival will incorporate different arts like music, dance, poetry, storytelling, pottery as well as weavers’ crafts which will be on exhibition.
The festival is set to be an annual event where local history is documented and preserved.
The event has drawn the attention of various stakeholders including music lecturers from Masvingo and Bondolfi teachers colleges, the District Administrator’s office, village herds and chiefs, the education ministry and other relevant government departments.news
