Pupils at Mukaro High School who are expected to sit for the June and November Zimbabwe School Examination Council (ZIMSEC) examinations respectively are at risk of failing following the closure of the school last week by the authorities (Roman Catholic Church) amid reports that the church wants two teachers at the school transferred with immediate.
Masvingo Provincial Education Director (PED) Zedius Chitiga said the school is still closed but said the ministry is running around to make sure that the situation is back to normal.
“Mukaro is still closed; we are in the process of solving the problem. The school authority closed the school without consulting the parents and the ministry, however, we are taking measures to make sure that pupils rights are upheld. I cannot ascertain the dates for the reopening but we are expediting the process and very soon the situation will be back to normal,” said Chitiga.
The Roman Catholic indicated in a press statement last week that the closure was a result of two ‘stubborn’ teachers whom they accuse of masterminding the 2012 pupils demonstration which saw female pupils walking 20km from the school to the District Education offices at Mpandawana town.news
