CHIREDZI – Chiredzi Resident Magistrate Judith Zuyu has urged students and parents to shun sexual abuse while addressing a gathering at a Women’s Affairs family Day held at Chitsanga hall last week.
Zuyu’s call came following an increase of sexual abuse cases in the Lowveld and she urged residents to report all cases of child abuse.
“Sexual abuse is on the increase; I urge you to join the fight by reporting any sexual abuse case to the nearest police station as soon as possible. We should work together to bring an end to sexual abuse,” said Zuyu.
“Cases of sexual abuse are also on the increase because you parents are accepting bribes after your children are sexually abused by relatives or business people. You should desist from taking bribes because you are destroying your children’s future,” she added.
Parents who attended the function however blamed police for reacting slowly when they report such cases.
“Police are not considerate, they do not attend to such cases in time and at one time I once went to the police station to report a case like this but I had to spent the whole day waiting for the so called relevant police officers till I went home without given any help,” said one parent who identifies himself as Makweva.news
