MWENEZI – Zanu PF Mwenezi East MP, Joosbi Omar, who will contest against Kudakwashe Bhasikiti of the MDC Alliance in the upcoming general elections, has introduced a soccer tournament as a way of mobilising the critical youth vote.
The J. Omar Cup Clash, whose tightly contested semi-finals were played at Rutenga growth point last Saturday, saw the Mwenezi East Select squad beating Chivara Crew from Masvingo Urban Ward 4, by three goals to two.
Speaking to TellZim News after the match, Omar’s projects coordinator, Knocks Mutsambwa said the idea behind the tournament was to unite the youth of diverse backgrounds and target their votes so as to maximise the ruling party’s overall vote in the forthcoming general elections.
“We have realised that the youth constitute the majority of voters, so as a way of uniting them as well as amaximising President Mnangagwa’s votes, we have decided to introduce the tournament. We are also working with our candidate for Masvingo Urban Ward 4, Tavara Mudukuti.
“As we engage the youth to mobilise support for Zanu PF, we also hope to make the tournament big by roping in teams from other districts of the province,” said Mutsambwa.
He added that the tournament’s finals, slated for June 16 in Masvingo Urban, will see participants walking way with many prizes.sport
