Zimbabwe Gems netball Star and Reformed Church in Zimbabwe (RCZ) social work student Elizabeth Mushore on Thursday (October 13) left the country for the team’s trip to South Africa for the Innovation Diamond Cup Challenge set for next month.
The lanky 21 year-old Gems defender who plays for Platinum Queens in the domestic setup (Masvingo) took up at Rivers Primary School in Mazoe and is originally from Chiweshe.
Mushore changed positions from attach to defence after she made her debut and she says that’s the highlight of her career so far.
“There are a lot of things that I have accomplished, but I can say I was proud of myself when I was called to play in defence while all along I was playing shooting and I made it. I was so happy and have also played in Pretoria in South Africa,” said Mushore.
Apart from netball, the Gems star is thankful to her former school teacher, Mr Mlambo from Pamushana High School which happens to be under Reformed Church in Zimbabwe for helping her achieve her goals.
She also is an athlete but because she can’t balance all the three: netball, athletics and school, she had to choose and leave one sport.
Mushore has also found herself playing girls’ soccer.
Mushore is however not only focusing on netball as she also uses her income from Platinum Queens to cover for her tuition and other expenses.
She claims that netball is her job and she is also excited at the opportunity of representing the country, club and playing outside.
“It’s something that I feel good about, because I’m doing it for myself, for my school (RCU), my country and club and those who support me especially my family,” she said.
Mushore missed out on the opportunity to play in Namibia in 2018 because of an injury and she considers that as one of her major setbacks.
She also encouraged other upcoming stars to do what they love and stop at nothing from going for it.
“If there’s something that you love, do it and work extra hard so that you achieve what you want in life and if you love it, go for it. My biggest advice is work hard, don’t wait for someone to pick you,” she said.

Douglas Mwonzora recalls 3 Gweru councillors

Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) leader Douglas Mwonzora recently wielded his axe on three Gweru urban councillors Martin Chivhoko ward 4, Cleopas Shiri ward 5 and John Manyundwa ward 18 as he continues recalling those who sympathise with his political nemesis Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa.
The recall was done on October 17 with the three having since been informed by Acting Gweru Town Clerk Douglas Vakai Chikwekwe who wrote to them notifying them of their expulsion and declaring vacancies in their wards.
Communication from Local Government and Public Works minister July Moyo dated October 11 informed Chikwekwe of reception of the three’s expulsion letter from MDC-T.
“I wish to inform you that, I am in receipt of a letter from the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) stating that the following councillors have been expelled from the party: Cllr Martin Chivhoko ward 4, Cllr Cleopas Shiri ward 5 and Cllr John Manyundwa ward 18.
“In terms of section 278 (1) of the constitution of Zimbabwe, as read with section (1) (k) the above-mentioned wards are now vacant,” read the letter.
Despite reportedly paying allegiance to Chamisa and CCC, the three are believed to have been targeted for refusing to agree to the awarding of ‘Freedom of City Status’ of Gweru to President Mnangagwa a few weeks ago.
“The three councillors were targeted for being vocal in declining the suggestion to award President Mnangagwa the freedom of city status in Gweru though they also have made it public knowledge that they follow Chamisa and CCC,” said a source.
Speaking to TellZim News, Chivhoko said he was chosen by the people and was going to continue serving them.
“I was chosen by the people, hence will continue to serve them. My mandate is to see to it that my ward’s concerns are addressed as they sent me to.
“My ward wants refuse to be collected, water to be provided, roads fixed, infrastructure improved and I will continue to do so. Council belongs to the people, and it is the people who speak,” said Chivhoko.
Shiri said the recall was overdue as he expected it long back.
“I have been waiting for the recall for the past 10 months after being threatened for refusing to step down as Deputy Mayor to pave way for ward 9 councillor Edson Kurebgaseka.
“My recall is on the basis of politicking and refusing to accord Freedom of the City status to President Emmerson Mnangagwa,” said Shiri.
This is not the first time that Mwonzora has descended on Gweru after he recalled Mayor councillor Josiah Makombe who has since bounced back after romping to victory in the ensuing by-elections.
Gweru recalls came hot on the heels of Mwonzora recalling six councillors from Binga Rural District Council and two more from Victoria Falls.

Controversial musician Hosiah ‘Vapange’ Chipanga who once made numerous attempts to engage President Emmerson Mnangagwa to deliver what he said was ‘God’s revelation’ to him on how to govern, for the country to be delivered from current problems recently met the President but could not deliver the message.
Chipanga met President Mnangagwa in Mutasa South constituency last weekend during a rally where he was performing alongside Baba Harare.
He said he was happy to meet the President though he could not deliver his message saying he was ordered to follow proper procedures which he said he will do in due course.
He said meeting the President was a step in the right direction since he got a positive answer on his request to meet him.
“It was like breaking new ground to me since I had never got so close to the president since he came to power. Now that I have managed to meet him and got a positive answer on my request that I can someday meet him, that green light gives me not only hope but assurance that God is alive and that he is there for us to make Zimbabwe a better country if not the best on the planet,” said Chipanga.
He said it was his hope that this time the president will take him seriously and consider meeting him to hear his vision saying it is only after the meeting that he will be able to know whether or not the challenges could be solved.
“I don’t know yet of being successful but I have hope that the President of the country is going to take me seriously on my vision and mission, thereafter I would be able to know whether the destination can be reached or the struggle continues,” added Chipanga.
He said what is left for him now is to learn and follow the right channels to go meet him saying he is confident that if he deliver the message, Zimbabwe will be a better country or even the best.
He claims that all his attempts to meet the president were in vain saying he wanted to deliver a massage he got from God when he came to him in 1977 through a vision with a revelation on how the Creator wants Zimbabwean leaders to lead the country enroute to becoming light of Africa and the world.
In 2021 Chipanga told TellZim News he received a vision of how the country would look like if the leaders take his advice.
“It was on September 13, 1977 when the holy spirit descended on me and a new world different from the current one shown to me and thereafter everything and means to live in such a new world was taught to me. It is from that time until today that I have tried to approach my country leaders on how best our Creator wants Zimbabwe to be led and become the light of Africa and the whole world.
“The vision says everything about how people should live, together with how they should be governed in the kingdom of God on earth. To the President, I would advise him on how he can tackle the problems the country is facing using God’s advice and ideology,” said Chipanga.
He said Africa inherited ‘evil system of governance’ from former colonial masters and that copying other nations will not workout.
“In other words, we as Africans inherited and still copy the evil systems of governance from our colonizers yet Zimbabwe has a new system of governance and living reserved for it as a chosen country.
“No matter how accurate we may copy, it will not work for Zimbabwe until we discover our reserved peculiar route,” he added.
Chipanga said the current model of governance by government is more like upside down when compared to the ideal model.
He said the country lost its direction beginning from the days of former president
Robert Mugabe to the ‘New Dispensation’ which has done nothing to remedy the
‘curse’ that has befallen the country.
“For the past 40 years, I have tried all means known to me to meet the President of
my country both the late and the current one to no avail.
“It is true that those with powers to tell the President of whoever would want to see him are, for some reason, or due to the evil spirit of the devil that wants to
see us suffer, do not convey the request.
“In brief, I would tell President Mnangagwa of God’s spiritual advice on how
Zimbabwe can change itself and the world at large for the better,” said
Chipanga.

… As Masvingo endorses Mnangagwa as sole presidential candidate

MASVINGO – In what seems to be a big blow for Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s presidential ambitions, Masvingo province has endorsed President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the sole Zanu PF presidential candidate ahead of the elective congress scheduled for this year.
ZANU PF is reported to be factionally divided with one faction siding with Vice President Chiwenga while the other one is loyal to President Mnangagwa.
In Masvingo, the two warring factions are fronted by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution and former provincial chairperson Ezra Chadzamira and the current chairperson Robson Mavhenyengwa.
The factional battle between the two local leaders started early last year ahead of the Provincial Executive Committee elections when Mavhenyengwa challenged Chadzamira and went on to win the chairpersonship.
All intra-party elections in the province are now being contested along the two factions with the recent Central Committee elections having been dominated by Mavhenyengwa loyalists.
During the provincial inter-district meeting held at Masvingo Teachers College on Masvingo province on October 20 resolved that Mnangagwa will not be contested at congress.
“Masvingo unanimously nominates Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa as the sole candidate for Presidency and First Secretary of the party, Zanu PF at the 7th National People’s Congress.
“Masvingo province reaffirms its unwavering support for His Excellency the President and First Secretary of the Party, Zanu PF CDE Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa as the sole presidential candidate for the 2023 harmonised elections,” read the resolution.
Though both Chadzamira and Mavhenyengwa preach unity and parade Masvingo as a united front, the province also resolved that the party introduce stern measures against perpetrators of factionalism among other things.
“The party should set deterrent penalties for perpetrators of factionalism and other vices that seek to advance individual interests at the expense of party’s rules and regulations and that party and government adopt zero tolerance to corruption,” added another resolution.
Speaking at the event, Chadzamira urged people to unite and bury their differences as they approach 2023 saying their common goal was to win the elections.
Chadzamira went on to say for them to fight, they should be in power first and implored people to unite then fight after winning the elections.
“There is no home without fights but for now we have to win first as ZANU PF so that we can have fights, we cannot fight when we are not in power,” said Chadzamira.
He went on to ‘warn’ party leadership against some Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) which he said are driving regime change agenda saying government was fast tracking the Private Voluntary Organizations (PVO) bill, which will allow them to deregister those purported to be anti-government.
The battle for control of Zanu PF continues to hog the limelight especially at a point in time when the party braces for the elective congress with the party’s number two reportedly harbouring presidential ambitions after he resuscitated Mnangagwa’s political career following his demise at the hands of former President, the late Robert Mugabe.

Byo businesses hold charity golf tourney for KG6

The Bulawayo business community last week hosted a charity golf tournament for King George VI Centre (KGVI), a centre for persons with disabilities.

The Centre is one of Zimbabwe’s foremost disability advocacy organisations, supporting the rights of children with disabilities and those with hearing impairments through access to education, sign language, rehabilitation, independent living, sports, and vibrant performing arts programmes.

KGVI Administrator Lomaswati Mavhangira expressed her gratitude to the business society of Bulawayo who generously supported them.

“Lately we have been struggling to provide adequate food and resources for our children due to financial instability.

“As KGVI, we are grateful to the business community of Bulawayo for coming to our aid at such a critical time,” said Mrs Mavhangira.

The tournament was hosted at Bulawayo Golf Club on Saturday, October 8, 2022. The event was overseen by KGVI staff and students who brought music and dance as part of entertainment for the day.

The Tournament Convener Mr Shlomo Lepar said that the purpose of the charity fund was to support the financial stability and viability of KGVI.

“It was an absolute honour and privilege to help and organize this wonderful charity day. It’s with much thanks to the commercial and industrial sector for supporting us so generously in the sponsorship of holes and prizes.

“Our aim is to ensure that this becomes an annual calendar event because it goes a very long way in aiding the financial stability and viability of KGVI,” said Mr Lepar.

The charity event included a golf tournament, a raffle and an auction; all meant to raise funds for KGVI.

The beneficiaries of the funds raised on the day are going to be children with disabilities at King George VI as well as the centre itself.

One of the organizers of the tournament from KGVI, Precious Ncube also said that the funds will go towards the revival of the independent living programme which had since been stopped due to economic challenges.

“We are so grateful. Independent living is critical in grooming and preparing children with disabilities for social life after school,” said Precious.

Independent living is a programme at King George Centre where children with disabilities are taught about the activities of daily living (Adl) such as cooking, grooming, cleaning and washing among other activities.

Under this programme, children will be given food which lasts for a week and be taught to budget and manage it on their own.

Other companies who sponsored the holes at the tournament included Mine Machines, Cimas, APG, Safeguard RSC Steelforce, Arenel, PolyFoil, BHc, Liquid Technologies, ZB Bank, AutoWorld, Gurus Holdings, ZIB, ICZ, FBC, Cabs and Old Mutual, Edgars Club Plus, Jet and The Butcher Shop.

The Prizes were sponsored by Femina Garments, Pick N Pay, Lemonseed, Arenel, Parker Paints and Fortwell. The Donations at the tournament were made by KB Davies, Mr Anand and Acol.

Profoam also made a donation towards KGVI of 25 mattresses which will be used at the hostels.

Companies that also participated at the tournament include Isuzu Motors.

The much anticipated Lake October Great Zimbabwe Tourism Festival is set to light up the ancient city with more activities being lined up for the three day event this coming weekend.
Speaking at a press conference at Chevron Hotel in Masvingo, Lake October Great Zimbabwe Tourism Festival Head of Public Relations Tavita Mpala said there will be more activities including boat cruising and quad biking at slashed prices.
“We have major discounts for state of the art boat cruises from Thunder Run going for US $20 for a 15 minute cruise, prices for the quad bikes have been slashed to US$ 5.
“We have made efforts to ensure that everyone participates, we have a family fun day on the 22nd where entrance to the monuments is free with free activities like Zumba, Tug of war.
“We have roped in other entertainment sectors for the benefit of everyone in the province hence there will be a pre-party at Liquids Club International on Thursday,” said Mpala.
“We are expecting to make about USD $1,5 million not only as Lake October but as a Province, Hotel bookings are already at 85 -90% full and we have had ticket sales from people outside Masvingo from places like Chipinge, Victoria Falls, Kariba,” said Mpala.
Zimbabwe Tourism Authority Regional Manager Daniel Mumpande placed emphasis on the importance of festivals in bringing tourists to a destination.
“Festivals play an important role in bringing tourists, you can’t just come to Masvingo and see the Great Zimbabwe monuments and go back, you need to have some other activities to do like boat cruising which is one component that is missing in the province.
“We can have a resort where so many smaller activities can take place like a water world theme park as we have so much water in Lake Mutirikwi which is available to investors in that sector.
“The locals are going to benefit from participating as well as making sales,” said Mumpande.
E-square, M-Kay, K Gizzy, Jackson, King Shella, Spaction, Majesty, Tanaka D- Wemagetsi, Wekwamaramba the jazz artist and JP Magetsi are some of the local artists that will be performing at the festival.
Coincidentally Great Zimbabwe University is having its graduation which will likely make a buzz for ticket sales at the event.
Masvingo is home to some of the biggest water bodies in the province and there is need for investment in recreational facilities such as boat cruising and other water based activities.

Ladies and gentlemen, the tempo is always rising and political temperatures have reached another level as we march towards 2023 where the decisive harmonized elections are set to be held. Yes, of course they are decisive in the sense that it presents an opportunity or chance to amend where people did wrong as a nation between 2017 and 2018. We hoped that things will change for the better but we have realised that we were wrong.
I hope next year people will vote wisely and give Zanu PF another chance to rectify what has been failed since 1980. Give them another chance, at your own risk of coz kkkk. You all head the Head of State and Government who is also the commander in chief of the Zimbabwe defence forces and chancellor of all state universities lying to Chiredzi people that electrification of rural communities is set for end of October after he through Rwandese Kagame sourced for funds from mysterious investors. Imika imi, tinyareiwo zvedu. Chete I don’t blame him, mabasa ake akawandisa and he is overwhelmed, all that I mentioned above for one person, ko zvimwe zvandisina kutaura. Instead of talking about mordenising schools in Chiredzi busy with lies, nxaa. Didn’t he see mud and pole classroom blocks at several if not all schools in the area that resemble the ‘Stone age’ era? Roads are full of potholes while ZINARA is collecting toll fees. Gutu district hosted the provincial launch of 2022 anti-stock theft campaign at Mushayavanhu Secondary School on October 12 in ward 35 under Chief Nyamandi.
The campaign was moving under the theme ‘National herd, our herd- livestock: our wealth is our concern’.
It aimed to create collaboration between farmers, government stakeholders and the police to fight against stock theft.
Speaking at the event, Officer Commanding Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Masvingo Province Commissioner David Mahoya said the province has recorded several cases of stock theft which is very worrisome so they are looking forward to collaboration between famers, government stakeholders and the police in fighting it.
“We decided to have this event today because we are really worried with number of stock theft cases that Masvingo province has recorded so far. Those people are very smart, they target specific households who they know have a lot livestock and to us it shows that those people have strong connections with some of the members of the community. So I encourage you to give us information on those people who are doing that because I know that you know them, do not hesitate to call us,” said Mahoya.
Giving statistical evidence, Commissioner Mahoya said cases which involve all livestock stolen this year are 528 as compared to 331 as of last year which shows 60% a sharp increase.
“As for stolen cattle specifically this year, the province recorded 202 cases and last year recorded 264 cases.
“Also this year, a total number of 69 accused persons were arrested as compared to last year where 68 people were arrested.
“The current figures are too high. Cattle is our economic backbone as Zimbabweans so we have to safeguard them very well We have an anti- stock theft unit in the district, work with them and give them tip offs if you have any information about stock theft don’t hesitate to call us we will respond,” he added.
He also gave a warning to those police officers who have a tendency of clearing cattle in their offices without visiting the sites to stop that manner and do the proper clearance as they are expected to do.
He concluded by encouraging the community to have brand names for their cattle for easy identification in case anything happens and the police get hold of them.

CHIREDZI-The battle to the 2023 harmonized elections seems to have gathered momentum in Zanu PF’s camp here in the Lowveld as former Chiredzi Town Council chairperson Francis Moyo’s alleged faction was heavily defeated by Chiredzi West legislator Farai Musikavanhu’s faction during the just ended Central Committee elections held last weekend.
The elections reminisced a rehearsal to the 2023 Zanu PF party primary elections where presumably similar faces would present themselves as candidates.
There were ululations of joy after the announcement of the Central Committee election results at Chiredzi Town Council Civic centre after the underestimated ‘Team Chitova’ grabbed all three seats leaving ‘Team Zvazara’ with nothing to take home.
The election was a litmus test for the two factions, one led by Zanu PF Masvingo provincial chairperson Robson Mavhenyengwa while the other allegedly led by Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Ezra Chadzamira came out victorious during the just ended elections.
The elections, which were presided over by Retired Colonel Mateta from Bikita saw Chiredzi West Member of Parliament Farai Musikavanhu emerged victorious against Chiredzi South Member of Parliament, Retired Brigadier General Kalisto Gwanetsa in the third group with 171 votes against 111.
In group 2, Chiredzi East Member of Parliament Denford Masiya was also white washed by the little known Petros Chivhinga who got 169 votes against Masiya’s 109 while another contender, Smart Klemo only got three plus his own vote to make them four.
The leading basket, group one was led by Chiredzi East’s Abraham Sithole, who won with a margin of 63 votes after recording 164 votes against Mamvura Tarisai who was trailing with 101 votes. Kingsley Kanda, a war veteran who migrated from Chiredzi East to Chiredzi West also recorded a single digit figure with seven votes plus his vote to make them eight.
The central committee results have left Mavhenyengwa faction in an uncertain state as sources say they are not certain of their political future in 2023, with Chiredzi North Member of Parliament Roy Bhila allegedly having sleepless nights as South African based businessman one Mubhoyi is allegedly threatening to wrestle the seat from him.

FOC donates reading lamps to Domborembavha High School

GUTU- For our Children (FOC) organization donated solar lantern reading lamps at Domborembavha High School last week with about 55 school girls benefiting from the gesture.
The founder and director of the organization Sissy Chinhamo said the programme aims to empower girls to value education so that they excel mostly in science subjects.
“We came up with the idea of donating these reading lamps to girls specifically because we want to empower them so that they have passion in education especially in science subjects. We have a lot of school dropouts here in rural areas due to child marriages and that is worrisome, so we thought giving them help in form of reading lamps will motivate them to remain focused,” said Chinhamo.
She also said FOC is going to give them reading modules, written by members of their organization, in Biology, Mathematics Chemistry and Physics end of October
FOC also intends to donate bicycles early next year to learners so that they can do away with the traveling worries over the long distances to and from school.
“We are also going to provide reading material in science subjects to help the learners. Our organization will also donate bicycles to the girls so that instead of worrying about travelling long distances to and from school, they can focus on their studies,” she added.
Domborembavha school head Edward Mashiri said he appreciates the support they received from the organization and encouraged students to work hard.
“We appreciate the support that we received from FOC, you are being empowered, grab the opportunity and do something better so that you can be someone in life. Those who are helping you are doing it whole heartedly, so value that,” he said.
He also added that sending a girl child to school is a greatest thing any parent can do, so learners should take the opportunity and fulfil their dreams.
FOC is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) born out of realization that the economic conditions in the country are increasingly becoming difficult for some families and the need to provide adequate essentials for their children saw it necessary to chip in.
