ZVISHAVANE – Officer-in-Charge Zvishavane police camp, Chief Inspector Kota Mhike was last week bamboozled in front of magistrate Shepherd Munjanja during the trial of seven MDC-T members accused of public violence as lawyers of the accused took turns to fire him with questions that he failed to answer.
Despite reportedly serving in the police force for 25 years, Mhike showed no guts or experience of defending his actions when asked to justify why he ordered his officers to break a court-sanctioned rally.
“May this honourable court protect me your worship,” Mhike kept on saying while sweating profusely.
He appeared before the magistrate as the first respondent to explain why he had unlawfully ordered the arrest and detention of the seven opposition supporters.
Mhike’s heavily armed officers disrupted an MDC-T rally that was scheduled for Sunday the November 6, 2016 despite the fact that the High Court had sanctioned the rally.
After disrupting the court sanctioned rally, the officer-in-charge reportedly ordered his subordinates to arrest Trynos Shava, Clifford Mulingwa, Tendai Tswana, Tobias Moyo, Patrick Museva, Tapiwa Shava and Lameck Sateko.
The seven were represented by lawyers from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) and they were all freed after the court found the State’s arguments baseless.news

“I am humbled by this gesture from Malilangwe Trust. We find it remarkable to have stakeholders who are always there to help the communities,” said Matsilele.
He said council was having sleepless nights over the spread of the weed and they had since set new bylaws to fight the weed.
Chairperson of the sub catchment council, John Mutomani also praised Malilangwe Trust for its commitment to the eradication of the weed.

BIKITA – The EL NINO induced drought which has hit the country has had a devastating effect on livestock particularly in Masvingo’s Chivi and Mwenezi areas but Bikita has become the recent area where cattle are dropping dead due to hunger and excessive heat, while some get trapped in muddy rivers trying to scavenge the remaining water ponds.
Villagers pin their hopes on the impending rainy season so it can fall and breathe some life into the plain grazing lands.
Chief Ziki told TellZim News that they have heard many reports of cattle dropping dead and some getting trapped in muddy pools while trying to get a sip of water, a situation he says was not common in Bikita.
“Bikita is affected by drought but we have never had a situation where our livestock just drops dead because of hunger. We used to read about it in the newspapers happening in other areas like Chivi and Mwenezi but now it has come to our kraals.
“Beause most rivers are drying up and only small ponds are left, we have heard situations where cattle get trapped in muddy pools and fail to come out because they are too weak,” said Chief Ziki.
He added that the government has to intervene and make sure that they bring stock feeds at affordable prices to the people.
“We have never had such thin cattle in Bikita. We plead with the government to come and rescue our villagers from making huge losses. If only they could provide us with stock feeds at affordable prices so that we can buy and feed our cattle,” said Chief Ziki.news

ZAKA – A Form One pupil who failed to gather all his grandparents’ livestock from the veld hanged himself last week after being instructed not to return home unless he finds all the cattle.
Godsave Chaza, of Gumbire village under Chief Bota, was a pupil at Rudhanda High School and is said to have been severely traumatised by continuous abuse from his grandparents who were his guardians.
On a certain day, the boy is said to have failed to find one beast and was warned not to return home the next time he fails to locate all the cattle.
On the second day, the boy is said to have failed to find the whole herd and decided to take his own life for fear of his grandparents.
On the fateful day, he had met some friends who were going to school and told them that he was going to look for the cattle.
It is alleged the boy had previously confronted his grandparents demanding to know his father.
There are several reported and unreported cases of child abuse in the poor district of Zaka and many people believe authorities are not doing enough to protect the rights of children.
Recently, TellZim News wrote a story of a grandmother who was said to have sexually abused two minors but she is reportedly still walking free while a disabled man is accused of sexually abusing his stepdaughter but nothing has reportedly  been done to him.news

Mugabe to rule on his death bed: Nhenjana

President Robert Mugabe

Brighton Chiseva

ZAKA – Zanu PF Masvingo provincial chairperson Amasa Nhenjana last week told Zaka district party leaders that Mugabe is going to leave the presidential office only after his death.
Addressing party leaders in Jerera during an inter-district meeting, Nhenjana said Mugabe is the party’s candidate for 2018.
“As long as he is still breathing, we will carry him to wherever he is needed and he will only leave that office after his death,” said Nhenjana.
His words may, however, displease influential First Lady Grace Mugabe who recently declared that President Mugabe will rule from the grave.
The party leadership agreed that the first resolution at the conference will be to endorse Mugabe as the first secretary, the only centre of power and the 2018 presidential candidate.
Nhenjana confirmed that there were divisions in the party but people were supposed to work together if elections were to be won.
“You hear on radio and read in newspapers that the party is divided but you don’t have to engage in those divisions. I know you have your own differences but let’s work together for the good of the party,” Nhenjana said.
He urged members to recruit newly married people from other districts and school children who have just completed their ordinary level into the party.
“Don’t just be happy that you have a new bride and you give her some money without making sure that she is eligible to vote and that she is in the party,” he said.
Attendants, however, castigated the imposition of candidates as cancerous.
The youth said Zanu PF’s survival was based on rural people who should be given residential stands as those who live in towns.
Zaka North Legislator Robson Mavhenyengwa said it was not fair for people to start campaigning for posts that are not yet vacant, highlighting his fear of Alson Darikai who is campaigning to take over the seat.
“It’s not good to start to campaign for Nhenjana’s position or my seat while I am still there,” said Mavhenyengwa.

Bikita West by-election date set

Upenyu Chaota

MASVINGO – President Robert Mugabe has picked January 21, 2017 as the date for the Bikita West by-election when Zanu PF’s Beauty Chabaya is expected to battle it out with other opposition candidates including Kudakwashe Gopo of ZimPF and an independent candidate, Heya Shoko.
The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) has maintained its stance of boycottying elections until electoral reforms are made.
They have, however, made commitments to support any candidate opposing Zanu PF and are likely to rally Shoko who is an independent candidate.
Zanu PF’s Masvingo provincial executive has already revealed that the seat is a must win for the party if the embarrassment of Norton is to be prevented.
Bikita remains a fragile ground since it is still nursing the wounds of horrific political violence it suffered during the run up to the 2008 elections.
Zanu PF’s Masvingo provincial chairperson Amasa Nhenjana has expressed confidence in the elections saying the people of Bikita have shown their support for the party.
“Norton was a mistake which cost us a big deal. Bikita West is not a game and we will reclaim our dignity. The elections will be free and fair. We will not force anyone to vote for us but we will campaign peacefully and rally people behind our party.
“There are people who think we are a violent party and we always rig election, but that is not the case. If we had the capacity to rig, why then did we allow ourselves to be humiliated in Norton?” said Nhenjana.
He chided the opposition for being sore losers who never accept defeat graciously.
“The problem with opposition is that they see us campaigning while they relax in their different corners and when we win elections, they say we have rigged.

How can you be cheated for 36 years? Politically, the opposition is stupid because they always find comfort from their defeat in the rigging mantra. No one still believes them. Bikita West will give them a wake up call,” said Nhenjana.news

Lacoste, G40 in congress accreditation tiff

Upenyu Chaota

MASVINGO – Zanu PF’s Team Lacoste and Generation 40 (G40) factions have scrapped their few months’ old truce and rekindled their feud ahead of the party’s December conference with ominous fights over control of the accreditation process.
The conference will be held from December 13 to 17 at the Masvingo provincial show grounds.
Last week’s accreditation process at Victoria Primary School came to a halt as members from both factions came close to fist fights with allegations that the accreditation list contained only names of those with close links to Masvingo Urban legislator, Daniel Shumba.
Suspected Team Lacoste members reportedly phoned party chief whip, Lovemore Matuke, demanding that the process be stopped because the list, which was sent from Harare, was a creation of Shumba whom they allege to be a G40 sympathiser.
Matuke confirmed stopping the accreditation process saying he was doing a duty for the nation.
“You cannot just compile a list from the comfort of your home and think we will accept that. The list is compiled by the provincial chairperson who then sends it to Harare where it is verified and then given to the accreditors.
“The people have to understand that the conference is attended by one party chairperson per ward and not everyone. It is not a place where you can take your whole family.
“We realised that the list which was being used was not for people who were in the structures but for the ones loyal to someone,” said Matuke who is also the secretary for security in Zanu PF.
Alleged G40 members then accused Matuke and Godhati Dunira, who are both said to be fighting in the Lacoste camp, of sour grapes.
Masvingo provincial chairperson Amasa Nhenjana, who at one point openly declared war on Team Lacoste, said Matuke has no power to stop accreditation if the names are already in the hands of the accreditors.
“Matuke is the secretary for security and he was present when the names were defended in Harare. He does not have the power to stop the accreditation now and we will make sure the process continues smoothly.
“It is not like the names were engineered here but they were approved in Harare. The accreditation will go on as planned,” said Nhenjana.news
