. . . as razor blade operation bid kills Gutu woman

Memory Rasa

GUTU – A Marange Apostolic sect man from Gutu, who early this year mutilated her wife’s private parts in a birth operation bid with a razor blade, stunned villagers when he refused to bury his wife who passed on last week from the effects of the operation, claiming that she had consumed pills during the time she was admitted at Gutu hospital.
The Marange Apostolic sect’s church doctrine does not allow its members to seek medication at clinics and hospitals when they are ill.
TellZim News broke the story early this year when Chandinofira Mutereri (65) mutilated his wife, Nyevero Dumbu (34) in a bid to widen the birth canal after she gave birth at home.
Nyevero died as a result of the effects of the razor blade operation and was buried at her parents’ home after Mutereri refused to bury her claiming that she consumed pills which was against their church doctrine.
Nyevero was hospitalized for 14 days at Gutu Mission Hospital after the operation and was discharged after showing signs of recovering. It was when she went back home with her husband that she got worse after her husband allegedly denied her to take her pills saying it was against his church doctrines.
Nyevero was taken back to hospital in April by her family after they found her worse. On June 06, 2016, her husband however whisked her away from the hospital and went home.
“I am not seeing any reason of my wife being here. The nurses are forcing me to encourage her taking her medication knowing very well that it is against my church doctrine. I will never touch those pills. I also told her parents that medication and pills are not going to help her. All she need is church prayers and muteuro (anointed water). What is the point of staying here if am not going to touch those pills?”Chandinofira told Tellzim News in an interview after he had taken his wife from the hospital.
Nyevero’s father, Phillip Dumbu however, was angry with Mutereri and said he should pay dearly for the death of his daughter.
“What pains me most is that the man who is responsible for my daughter’s death is busy preparing another woman. Mutereri refused to bury his wife saying she took pills when she was admitted in hospital, which is against their church doctrine. My daughter was his third wife and the other two denied because of his razor blade operations,” said Dumbu.
Innocent Dumbu, the deceased’s brother said Mutereri even refused to hand over Nyevero’s Identity cards so that they can apply for a death certificate which they intend to use to acquire birth certificates for the wto children she leaves behind.
When TellZIm news crew visited Mutereri’s homestead, he started insulting them before he ordered them to leave his place.news
