19 March 2019, MUTARE – Daring intruders who burgled into a house in Murambe Street last Sunday used a cable to tie a man and used rags to stuff his mouth before robbing him of US$415 and other goods.
Thirty-one year old Vosta Zvitete of Stand Number 6 Honde Street Murambe, Mutare, was left shaken by the robbery which happened in the early morning hours last Sunday.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa confirmed the incident and called for vigilance.
“In this robbery case, no arrests have been made so far. We appeal to anyone with information to report to the nearest police station. People should make sure that their doors are well-locked before going to sleep. They must make sure they put their money in very safe places to protect it in case of a robbery,” he said.
Two unknown male adults cut the fence and entered the house using unidentified objects. They took two cell phones that were on charge before proceeding to where Zvitete was sleeping.
Brandishing an axe and a machete, the robbers woke the victim up and demanded money.
Zvitete said he had no money but the robbers found US$15 from a pair of trousers which was on the floor before taking another US$400 which fell off the ground from the blankets.
They also made off with a television set, a Samsung DVD player, two pairs of trousers and three pairs of shoes before leaving Zvitete still tied, with his mouth was stuffed with the rags.local
