SHURUGWI – Local artist, Lazarus Chipangura, whose stage name is Elcee Gweja, who boasts three albums to his name, is looking forward to a more fruitful experience in the industry after this year’s release of his single ‘Kajongwe’ which is enjoying good airplay on ZBC radio stations.
The young and humble South Africa-based artist from Shurugwi has worked hard to put together music and release studio albums against all the odds.
Earlier this year, the 24-years-old musician received a boost in his music career when he scooped an award as the best Afro pop male artist at the Zimba Nice music awards.
He says his passion for music had pushed him to make a home studio in Shurugwi where he practiced and taught himself to produce music beats and songs with the help of his brothers Nick and Wane some long time back.
He continued working on his own after his brothers left the country in 2009 as he believed that there was a good future coming if he remained committed.
His toil later saw him producing his first album titled Gweja ndiani in 2013, Mubato wangu in 2015, Yours and hers in 2016 and Kajongwe which was released this year.
Kajongwe features Nox Guni, Betty Makaya, Phola from Nigeria, Athen Lyre from Uganda and Rash Boss from Cameroon.
Elcee told TellZim News in an interview that young people must focus on their dreams and work hard to make them come true despite the various economic limitations faced by upcoming musicians.
He said his own personal experiences as an artist were not all rosy and he had never expected to be where he is when he started working from his home studio.
“If your dream does not scare you, then it’s not big enough. Coming from a small town and having a humble background does not determine where you are going,” said Elcee.entertainment
