Savior Kasukuwere

05 Feb 2017 – ZVISHAVANE – Zvishavane town council chairperson, Esau Dube, who was recently suspended for a series of corruption and incompetence allegations leveled against him, is challenging the fairness of his suspension.
In a letter addressed to the minister of Local Government and National Housing, Savior Kasukuwere dated January 16, 2017; Dube denies the allegations that were leveled against him.
He also defends his decision to censure town secretary, Tinoda Mukutu, for what he alleges to be managerial inefficiencies and lack of accountability.
“It is true that I refused to sign the Town secretary’s performance contract for the following reasons; (a) his refusal to realign management salaries as directed by the then minister of Local Government and National Housing Honorable Ignatius Chombo in 2014 (b) his lack of explanation and clarity on the deductions made on council employees without being remitted to the relevant statutory bodies…,” reads part of the letter.
Dube says he had always been reporting corrupt activities in the council to the ministry but no action was ever taken.
He also told TellZim News in an interview that he had visited the minister’s offices on January 19 to seek audience with him so that he could give him his true side of the story but Kasukuwere did not show up.
“I went to his offices on two consecutive occasions but I did not find him despite that my letter had been stamped to show that he had seen it.
I came to the conclusion that there is no good reason for his failure to meet with me,” Dube said.
Prior to his suspension, Dube had been embroiled in a feud with Mukutu whom he had earlier suspended on allegations of corruption but, in a dramatic turn of events with political undertones, Mukutu turned the tables and managed to get Dube suspended by Kasukuwere.news
