05 Feb 2017 – HARARE – TellZim News, the fastest growing regional newspaper in Masvingo province and the southern region of the country, receives another award at the Road Safety Journalist Awards held last Friday in Harare.
Ntombiyolwandle Ndlovu, an intern who is studying at Great Zimbabwe University (GZU), scooped the Best Student Reporter of the Year Award, outpacing other competitors from national newspapers.
For the grand prize, Ndlovu received $900 and a shield. Her story, which unmasked the police as agents of road carnage, was judged the best story.
TellZim editor Passmore Kuzipa said the award was confirmation that the newspaper is doing great in as far as community development reporting is concerned.
“We are just over a year old but it’s amazing how we are bagging awards – it is a confirmation that we are indeed the best regional community newspaper in the country. We have outmatched even some national newspapers in terms of community developmental reporting.
“The Traffic Safety Award is also confirmation of the good work we are doing to promote road safety in the country. It is not just about making money as a newspaper but also serving the community we operate in,” said Kuzipa.
In December; another TellZim News Reporter Theresa Takafuma won the MCZ Best Impact Video Award after she exposed open defecation at Dr Grace Mugabe Trading Centre (Chitima Market) due to the absence of toilets.
After the video was released, council rushed to construct ablution facilities at the busy market.news
