ZAKA – All four Zaka constituencies last week joined the rest of the country in selecting child parliamentarians for the next parliament with Zaka North and Central being asked to field male candidates while Zaka East and West were reserved for females.
Zaka East held its elections at Matara Secondary School while Zaka West ran the process at Rudhanda High School.
Zaka Central ran its selection process at Chinorumba High School, with Zaka North conducting its own process at Mutsambwa Secondary School.
Pamela Charles, a Form 3 pupil at Matara Secondary School won the Zaka East seat after beating five other rivals from different schools in the constituency.
The Zaka West seat went to Rutendo Muromo, a Form 5 pupil at Rudhanda High School after she secured 19 votes with the Zaka Central seat going to Musiso High School’s Kupakwashe Mazuru who garnered 12 votes.
Elections for the Zaka North seat saw a Form 3 pupil of Mutsambwa Secondary, Liberty Chawa winning with 11 votes.
The selection process was guided by debates on the topic “Conflict and Crisis in Africa: Protecting Children’s Rights” on which each participant would make a five minutes presentation.
Another category saw child councillors being selected for various wards.
The senator will be chosen from the serving parliamentarians and the chiefs will be chosen by the Youth ministry.news
