ZAKA – There is suspicions
of corruption at Zaka police camp after a Jinjika Secondary School teacher who allegedly
stole six window frames and clocks seems to have gotten away with it.
Sources told
TellZim News Shadreck Chitsama stole the six window frames from the school
storeroom which he had opened using a duplicate key but was seen by a pupil who
stays in the school cottage.
Chitsama is said
to have hidden the window frames near the school but a security guard followed
a spoor and recovered the loot.
“The guard and
teachers including the deputy head Mason Manyadze recovered the frames after a
pupil made a tip-off,” said a source.
Chitsama later
tried to sell the clocks at the nearby Veza business centre but an alert ward
councillor privy to the alleged theft went and took away one for use as
exhibit.
Upon being
quizzed, Chitsama reportedly confessed and sought a hearing with the school
authorities and asked for forgiveness.
The matter is
said to having been reported to the Zaka district education offices after which
the case died a natural death as it was not taken forward.
School
Development Committee (SDC) chairperson Chanson Mapfuwa confirmed the incident
and said the parents were calling for the culprit’s arrest and removal from the
school.
“It’s true that
he brought back the stolen property and asked for forgiveness but parents no
longer want him at school. We are appealing to authorities to intervene on our
behalf and make sure that he is arrested and transferred,” said Mapfuwa.
Zaka District
School Inspector (DSI) Samson Chidzurira said he was aware of the matter but
could not give greater details.
“I can give you
finer details next week as we are still gathering more information. I would
want to believe that the matter was reported to the police,” said Chidzurira.
Zaka West
legislator Ophias Murambiwa confirmed knowledge of the incident and said he was
shocked by the lack of lack of seriousness by which the case had been handled.
“I know of the
incident. The councillor briefed me on the matter and I was shocked the case is
not being handled seriously. I will do a follow up and make sure that the
matter is dealt with by the police,” said Murambiwa.
