Masvingo – Confirmed reports that former Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) legislators who joined Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) are seriously considering retracing their foot to Morgan Tsvangirai has sparked debate in the Dr Joice Mujuru-led party to an extent that they hurriedly organized a press briefing last Friday to assure their supporters in the province that no one would leave the party.
Dr William Zivenge addressed the press briefing as the Masvingo provincial chairperson contrary to clarification by ZimPF national spokesperson Jealousy Mawarire that Retired Colonel Claudious Makova was still the chairperson for the province.
“Leaving MDC-T was my decision. I am one of the early people who joined the Morgan Tsvangirai led party but I left the party. I don’t hate MDC-T but the truth is we don’t share the same ideology. I joined People First because there is no other party with a sounding ideology like it,” said Zivenge.
Former MPs Jefferyson Chitando and Oliver Chirume were also present and they concurred with Zivenge.
Mavhaire also clarified that as ZimPF, they do work with MDC-T and other opposition political parties in trying to find common ground in fighting President Robert Mugabe.
“Working with MDC-T mustn’t be mistaken for rejoining MDC-T. Even though we don’t share the same ideology, we work together with MDC-T and all other opposition parties in National Election Reforms Agenda (NERA) to bring democracy and electoral reforms in Zimbabwe. MDC-T is not our enemy, Mugabe is,” Mavhaire said.
However, speaking to TellZim News this week, some former Members of Parliament (MPs) who did not go to the press conference insisted that they will soon be going back to Tsvangirai.
The MPs who refused to be named for now said they will soon issue their own press statement.news
