CHIREDZI – Childline, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) which offer psychosocial support to abused children and also works with parents on child protection issues, will on October 13, 2016 launch Destination Unknown (DU) campaign aimed at supporting children in the Chiredzi.
Childline Project Officer Givemore Magumuye said in an interview that they realised the need to launch the programme in Chiredzi  after research revealed that the town had a lot of homeless children.
“Basically DU campaign is an international campaign to protect children on the move, that is, homeless children. The campaign is being implemented here in Chiredzi after we realised that the town is centralised between Limpopo and Mozambican borders, therefore many children come here with intention to cross either of the borders but sometimes fail and come back,” said Magumuye.
He also said the campaign comes at a time when most children from the Mozambican side migrate into Zimbabwe due to the instabilities in their country and most of them find themselves in Chiredzi.
“Basically most of the children are currently coming from Mozambique because of the political instability. We have no doubt that this programme will give these children enough support and assist them to reunite with their families,” Magumuye said.
He said the programme will be supported by other organisations like Coalition Against Child Labour Zimbabwe (CACLAZ) and Zimbabwe National Council of the Welfare of Children (ZNCWC) in partnership with Terres des Hommes International Federation.news
