A former Ndarama High School learner who attained 20 points at A Level last year is appealing for financial assistance to clear fees arrears so that he can collect certificate and look for opportunities to further his studies.
Stuck between family disorientation and economic hardships, 20 year-old Munashe Makuvaza said he is failing to raise money to clear fees arears so that he can collect his certificate and pursue his dream of becoming a neuro-surgeon.
Makuvaza said he owes Ndarama High fees for three terms which he did not pay last year as his mom only managed to pay Zimsec examinations fees.
“I have not collected my academic results from the school since February when results were published because of fees arrears. I was only able to see my results online and in a school newsletter where my name was mentioned among top students. I owe the school three terms fees,” said Makuvaza.
“My appeal is for well-wishers to help me fund my dream of becoming a neuro-surgeon My parents separated but both of them are not in a position to fund my education and this has negatively affected me,” he added.
Makuvaza said the separation of his parents had left him stranded as both parents have started new families which forced him to stay alone while going to school.
“My mother last paid for my school fees when I was in lower six. She has not been able to pay for my school fees apart from the rentals and food for me as she also have to tend to my other siblings.
“My father on the hand is not able to pay for my fees as he also has five other children to take care of and this has had a negative impact on me,” said Makuvaza.
Determination has kept Makuvaza through his journey as he has always had to move from one school to another due to unforeseen circumstances.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances I have had to transfer from one school to another during my primary and ended up going to seven schools throughout the seven years. This also made it worse for me as I could not get my grade seven results too.
“To make matters worse, my mother fell seriously ill when I was supposed to go for form one and I had to forego attending school as I am the eldest child to look after her. I only attended school towards the end of first term only to transfer third term as there were no sciences at the private college where I was enrolled,” said Makuvaza.
