The abandoned match between Eastern Region Soccer League log leaders FC Wangu Mazodze and Mutare City Rovers a fortnight ago was replayed over the week, with the Masvingo based outfit edging Mutare City by a goal to nil.
The win saw FC Wangu Mazodze extending their lead on the log table with 12 points clear of second placed Tenax FC.
FC Wangu Mazodze and Mutare City continued the play from the 52-minute where the previous match was abandoned, with the former holding on to the 1-nil lead until the refree blew the final whistle after 90 minutes.
The kingdom Boys, as FC Wangu Mazodze is popularly known, are yet to taste defeat in the league this season having won 13 matches and drew three games.
FC Wangu Mazodze is now on 42 points,12 points clear of the second placed Tenax FC, with Mutare City Rovers on third position with 28 points.
Wangu Mazodze FC chairperson Trevor Chateuka expressed pride in the team’s performance, saying they aim to maintain the winning streak.
“Our boys are playing well and we want to continue with this form and stay at the top,” said Chateuka
The Kingdom Boys’ head coach John Nyikadzino said despite the midweek scheduling, the team was optimistic about maintaining the winning formula.
“We’ve signed two new players to boost the team, and we are confident of maintaining our performance,” said Nyikadzino.
Mutare City Rovers coach Kennedy Kachara attributed their loss to a goalkeeping blunder, saying, they failed to utilise the chances they got.
The match was poorly attended probably because of the midweek schedule.
