Shurugwi based High Voltage Poets of Hodzeko Arts and Culture recently released seven poems that speak against child marriages.
The seven poems are Ridzai Huhwi, Chains of Innocence, Tendai’s plea, Musadaro, Ndakakuyambira, Zanhi hero and Dear parents.
High Voltage Arts and Culture production manager Siphosami Ndlovu said the poems were educative as they touch on common problems which are encountered by victims of early child marriages, something that has become common in society.
“Edutainment plays a pivotal role in bringing awareness to communities on the consequences of Early Child Marriages and this is the reason why we have decided to produce these poems.
“The poem Ridzai Huhwi encourages people to report cases of Early Child Marriages to their nearest police post to rescue a girl child from the ill. Many people are hesitant to report cases of child marriages due to lack of knowledge,” said Ndlovu.
Chains of Innocence talks of girls rights and needs which are deprived and their dreams are shuttered after being forced into vows.
In Tendai’s Plea, early marriages are dubbed as toxins which totally destroys a girl’s life. In many communities girls contract Sexual Transmitted Diseases (STIs) men manipulate the girl child without revealing their HIV statuses.
Early Child Pregnancies are associated with severe complications which may lead to loss of life and the poem Musadaro talks of how pregnancy complications can lead to loss of life especially on young brides.
Ndakakuyambira encourage girls to enjoy their childhood and desist from rushing to parenthood.
Dear parents and Hero Zanhi encourages parents to empower and elevate the girl for a brighter future and for them to abstain from certain norms and values which are detrimental to their children’s lives.
