A 51-year-old Masvingo man was fined for slapping a juvenile who threw an ice cream container on the windscreen of his car.
Pfumayi Kutukawarima was brought before Masvingo Magistrate Tariro Mudzingo facing charges of slapping a four-year-old juvenile.
Kutukawarima was asked to pay US$120 fine within 30 days or spend one month in prison.
It was the state case that on August 19, 2024 at around 1430hours Kutukawarima was driving his car in First Street, Mucheke when the juvenile threw an ice-cream container on his car’s windscreen.
The juvenile then ran away and Kutukawarima followed the child and slapped him several times on the head in front of his mother and drove off.
The mother then went and reported the case to the police.
On passing judgement, the magistrate told the accused that he had no right to assault people.
Kutukawarima told the court that he popped the child thrice on the head with his two fingers so that next time he will not play on the road because it is dangerous.
The magistrate however asked the complainant’s mother if it was proper for her to report the case to the police since the accused was just disciplining her child and could have been hit by a car.
In her response she said she was against the complainant hitting her son with bare hands instead of using a stick.
