Gweru – Two Chinese nationals who were trending on social media recently over a confrontation with their Zimbabwean worker over salary arrears appeared before Gweru Magistrate Beauty Dube on attempted murder charges and were remanded in custody to February 7.
The incident involved a Zimbabwean worker Kholwani Dube and Ming Chang Sino-Africa’s Bijou Farm in Gweru District.
The two, Liu Haifeng (51) and Wang Jun (21) were also charged with contravening the Firearms Act after they produced a fire arm during the altercation with Dube, together with using explosives, and prospecting for gold without a license.
The State told the court that on January 21, 2025 at around 4pm, Liu, who is the farm manager at Ming Chang Sino-Mining Investment in Lower Gweru, fired three shots towards Kholwani Dube after the two had an altercation.
This happened after Liu had assigned Dube a task, which he refused to execute, and was then served with a suspension letter. This led to a dispute as Dube refused to leave without his salary.
As the dispute continued, it was revealed that Wang, who is the stores man, arrived at the scene and joined in the fight whilst Dube was protesting his dismissal without his salary.
Liu dropped his pistol, and Wang picked it up from the ground and pointed it on Dube’s head. Wang then pressed Dube’s head to the ground and tied his hands with a wire.
The matter was then reported to the police leading to the two Chinese nationals arrest.
