MASVINGO- Masvingo junior tennis players won 64 medals at three national tournaments held
in Masvingo and Kwekwe, with the youngsters collecting 28 gold, 24 silver and 12 bronze
medals across singles and doubles events.
The youngsters competed in the Muzenda National Tennis Tournament in Masvingo from
August 12 to 15, 2026 the Masvingo Junior Open from August 15 to 18, and the Zim Closed
Championships in Kwekwe from August 24 to 27.
The team head coach, Privy Kuwanda, said the Masvingo players accumulated 28 gold, 24 silver
and 12 bronze medals across the singles and doubles events.
The Muzenda National Tennis Tournament provided particularly strong competition, with junior
players from Bulawayo, Manicaland, Harare, Midlands and Masvingo taking part.
The tournaments catered for players from four to 18 years, with the programme also including
red-ball tennis, allowing younger players to develop their skills through competition.
Kuwanda said the medal haul came from players competing across different age groups and both
singles and doubles draws.
The Masvingo junior contingent included Akil Mbaura, Mason Gono, William Mazonde,
Mutsawashe Mutangiri and Andile Mbaura from Junior Primary School.
Anotidaishe Mbaura represented Junior High, while Daisy Mkwanilla and Tadiwanashe Dziwore
competed for Victoria High.
Leeroy Musekiwa represented Victoria Jnor, while Helen McGhie fielded Willstaff Sitemere,
Marvel Sitemere, Nkosinathi Bhegedhe, Simone Mhizha and Victoria Makezhe.
Chikato Primary had Successful Ganha and Anenyasha Mkwanilla, while Chibi High was
represented by Kumbiraishe Maguta and Natasha Chendume.
Jabulani Musekiwa represented Ndarama High, with Kyle College fielding Ruth Muzhuzha and
Merlaine Gono, while Blessing Saravoye represented Kyle Preparatory School.
The six shields added to the province’s success, with the players continuing to gain valuable
match experience against competitors from different provinces.
