Bikita District Environmental
Officer (DEO) Norman Mhlanga urged the people of Bikita to do clean-up campaigns
every day and not to wait for the specified commemoration and clean up days.
Mhlanga was speaking at the World
Environment and Desertification Day celebrations held recently at Mutikizizi
Primary School in Bikita’s Ward 6.
The first Friday of every month
has been set aside for a national clean-up exercise where President Mnangagwa and
other top government officials will lead from the front across provinces.
Mhlanga however urged people in
communities to do more and make sure that they live in cleaner environments on
daily basis.
“Let us not wait for the first
Friday of every month to do clean up campaigns. We should make sure that the
environment is clean at all times.
“The people in communities must
do their clean up exercises on daily basis so that we achieve the ultimate goal
of having a clean environment. We should make sure that we guard against
littering at all times,” said Mhlanga.
